Years ago, when I played the game for the very first time, I could have sworn that I got a very short scene between Locke and Terra at Narshe. I am wondering whether anyone else saw it, because I never managed to get it in subsequent playing (which was only three times more, however.)
After the split scenarios with destination: Narshe (i.e. Sabin's scenario, Locke finds Celes, and on the river Lete), Locke and Celes arrived to Narshe at some point after the Terra scenario. Terra is standing at the entrance, and I had Locke talk to her. She says something like "So I'm alone again..." and he says something like "yes". She bows her head. This is the way that I recall it. I always thought that this referred to the fact that she perceived Celes's arrival as competition for Locke, and that he affirms it in so-and-so words. This is why I always had the impression that she had some feelings for Locke, and this is why she begins to talk about loving later, etc. However, in subsequent replays I never got this scene. So now I feel as if I imagined it or something, although it's still rather clear in my head. Did anyone else ever get something similar? Perhaps I just recall Terra’s words incorrectly. |

I think it's your brain playing tricks on you. In fact I know it is, since I pay obsessive attention to all character interaction in FFVI and definitely would have noticed a scene like this.
I believe she has feelings for Locke, but not romantic ones. She's too confused and twist-turned upside-down for that. He's promised to protect her, and keeps that promise even after he meets Celes. I believe she may have had a fledgling attraction to Leo, but um. That ends poorly. -------------------- Some ghost of me might greet my son the day he is delivered. Yes, you're probably right, as I played the game 9 years ago, and never saw this scene again. But it got stuck in my head all-too-clearly. Perhaps I was confusing another Terra/Locke interaction in a cave (maybe before the trip to Narshe).
Although I disagree with you about Terra/Locke (or at least, in absolute terms, as in “there was nothing romatic there, periodâ€), I agree that it is indefinite and arguable. Definitely much more arguable than Locke/Celes, which was quite clear in the game. But that's a whole other discussion. This post has been edited by manapriestess on 9th May 2005 02:52 |

Definitely much more arguable than Locke/Celes, which was quite clear in the game. But that's a whole other discussion. Oh, nay, I don't believe there was nothing romantic there at all. I suppose I should have made myself less vague. I think Terra may have locked (ha) onto Locke very tightly, as he not only protected her but was, in fact, the first person she ever met, for all intents and purposes. In that way, I do in fact believe she had romantic feelings for him. From his end? It's even more complicated. Terra is so reminiscient of Rachel, far more so than Celes, that I believe he was VERY confused and more than likely projected emotions on Terra at the beginning of the game. (See esp. "Don't let a certain lecherous king near you" in the Returner hideout.) But things changed. I don't believe there was a "love triangle" in FFVI. The stirrings of things that might have been, perhaps. But that's it. In my opinion. -------------------- Some ghost of me might greet my son the day he is delivered. Eternal Sleep, Track 1-1: The Blue Planet |

Let's wait for the verdict from Djibriel or one of the other programmers. Quite frankly I don't believe such a scene was in the game, and I'm just waiting for those guys to confirm it.

Yep, that’s one of the scenes that has Locke pay a definite attention to Terra. But for years I had thought that I’ve seen something else that pointed to Terra’s feelings for Locke in a more definite way. Still, I wasn’t quite sure-- hence this post, to see if anyone else saw this scene. I think you played too much FF3 and wound up having a dream about playing the game. (laughs) honestly, I didn’t! I’m not even that kind of an intensive player. The scene was very clear in my head for many years. This post has been edited by manapriestess on 9th May 2005 19:51 |

I believe I saw the Dji Signal in the skies?
The scene isn't there, I'm afraid. The only part where the characters interact are on the snowy hills, when walking towards Tritoch. There are three scenes there; Celes-Edgar, Celes-Terra and Celes-Cyan. See, for this to happen Square would have to make a check if first Terra's scenario was completed and then Locke's, and Square employees are notoriously lazy in that aspect ![]() -------------------- |

If I were writing this as a story (and this is usually how I judge how much subtext I think would be there: by imagining things more fleshed-out for a different medium), there would be some romantic subtext between Terra and Locke in the beginning. They'd probably show some attraction but never really want to deal with it, and, by the time they got separated when Locke goes to South Figaro, the possibility would mostly be dead. Of course, that wouldn't stop Terra from whining about it later, because, let's face it, Terra does a lot of whining.
That's just my opinion. ![]() -------------------- Veni, vidi, dormivi. |

Whoops, I didn't notice that Djibriel was one of the programmers. Forget what I said in the first version of this post (I thought the scene existed for the Sabin-Terra-Locke order of scenarios).

Well, you might have been recalling right in the beginning of the game when you have Terra, Banon and Edgar, and you try and go through the main entrance to Narshe, and I recall Terra asking if it was all her fault they couldn't get in or something. ^^;

Thanks, Silverlance, for trying to pin down the scene that might have confused me, but it's probably not this one-- the trend of the dialogue between Terra and Locke in the scene I "recalled" was generally negative, and at least seemed to consist of only 1 line from Terra, and one from Locke. Again, it was 9 years ago, so I'm fairly sure that I'm just recalling some exchange between Terra/Locke incorrectly (but definitely not this one). What might it have been? I have absolutely no idea. If Locke cannot exchange words with Terra in Narshe after his arrival, then perhaps it's just an exchange with somebody else entirely in a similar setting (like RelmArrowny pointed out). Of course, that wouldn't stop Terra from whining about it later, because, let's face it, Terra does a lot of whining. karasuman, although I love Terra as a character, I perfectly agree with your outline- in fact, this is the way I wrote up the Locke/Terra relationship in various excerpts: hidden attraction -> Celes comes into the picture -> depression on Terra's part -> acceptance by Terra that she will only be a friend to Locke by the end of the story (of FF6). Of course, this is an entirely different topic, and perhaps I should start up a "Terra's match" thread. (I looked in the search function and didn't find one.) Now that I'm thinking about it, perhaps Silverlance's scenario was the one that I re-structured in my memory.

Silverlance- still, I didn’t want this to turn into a “is this true?†thread. Not that I blame Scorpio above for being confused. I’ve been wary of rumors since the days of Gogo/Daryl, but when I read the CoN rumors sections, for some reason I though that the site would only post rumors which have at least some basis. I completely overlooked the disclaimer in bold letters! Don’t try this at home, kidz!!! Of course, after reading a few rumors it dawned on me that they getting more and more outrageous, and I went back to the top to look for exactly such a disclaimer.
