If you don't want to get Mime through Chocobo Breeding, your only chance of using it is by beating Emerald weapon, then equip the Master Command Materia
. As for Quadra Magic, it was inteaded to be only aquirerable by using a blue chocobo or better, but you can manage to get it, but it's somewhat tricky. You need to get into the Highwind then, you need to try to land on the cave, The highwind will go a bit crazy then you wil bel landed on earth (or whatever the planet is called). You dont need a gold chocobo. Mime can be got with a green (mountain) chocobo, and quadra magic can be accessed via a blue (river) chocobo. Ive tried the highwind trick but it never worked for me

Beat Ruby. That'll get you a gold chocobo (albeit a crappy one) and you can then go get the materia. Everyone wins.
