This is random stuff I've heard while browsing around FFVI sites that I found interesting.
-Terra's hair was made green in sprite version because three blonde girls would get confusing. Though that doesn't explain why her dress was mainly purple in sprite... -They never showed Locke's face on the FMVs because not only is that a style of Japanese art, but also Cloud was modeled after what he would look like. I for one wouldn't mind a Cloud lookalike. ^.~ -I saw on one website (with screenshots, too!) that FFVII was originally going to be a continuation of FFVI. It's been a long time, but I remember reading that, and I wish so much I could find the links! >.< Oh well. What do y'all think? -------------------- You're telling me that there's no hope. I always assumed that she had green hair on account of her
Possible spoilers: highlight to view being an esper I wonder if that means if Locke took off his hat his hair would go massively spikey. -------------------- This is my world: (Got my second chapter up, 3rd Chapter about 80% complete) http://www3.sympatico.ca/daniel876/homepage.html |

Another example of this is Dagger in FF9. Quote (RelmArrowney @ 30th April 2005 00:38) -I saw on one website (with screenshots, too!) that FFVII was originally going to be a continuation of FFVI. That was a test of the capabilities of the N64 using FF6 characters, before Square got pissed at Nintendo for sticking to the cart format and started developing for the PS instead. -------------------- |

I'm a little drunk at the moment, so kindly ignore any bad speling mistakes.
![]() The SNES stores sprites as 4 bpp sprites with up to 16 coolors. That is, up to 256 colors. Various compromises have to be made to have psrites fit in the various preset palettes. Hence the difference in colors. How VII can be a continuations of VI baffles me to no end. Cna you provide any ACTUAL evidence to support this, or at the very least a link? -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

Excellent spelling for a drunk.
![]() I remember hearing that FFVII was going to be a direct continuation of FFVI too. Something like a thousand years in the future. Like Zed said, this is back when they were still planning for Nintendo. I have no proof of this, just as I had no proof that the characters were referred to as "Claud" and "Bullet." Likewise, I'm not about to take a trip to Redmond and flip through the NP microfiche. But I definitely remember reading that this was going to be a direct FFVI sequel, and then I guess they quickly scrapped the idea. |

Please excuse any typos on my part; I'm also slightly tipsy. (Saturday night for you.)
When Square was still considering following Nintendo to the N64 era, it made a demo of FFVI as it might look in 3-D, featuring Terra, Locke, and Shadow. Bahamut was summoned. It was all very neat. This might have led to the rumor that FFVII was going to be a continuation of VI. But, as we all know, Square decided to go in a different direction, checked out Sony, blah blah blah, and the rest is history. Terra does have green hair because of sprite difficulties. Same reason why Locke's not a blond. It doesn't matter, though; I prefer their sprite hair colorings, myself. It's all good. Thing I heard: Terra (Tina) Branford was named to poke fun at a famous Japanese VG character (Rina Ranford? Lina Danford? Something like that). It's for this reason I'm glad Woolsey changed her name. Not to mention the fact "Terra" just sounds much better. ![]() This is true: "Starlet" was, in Japan, named "Lakshmi," who is a supreme mother goddess in Hinduism. I remember this because it must have taken me the better part of two days to try to decipher the katakana. "Rack-oo-shi-mi? What in the hell?" Edit Nobody likes a sloppy drunk. Now that you mention it, Tina Branford does rhyme with Rena Lanford, the main character on Star Ocean 2!

Good god, I was tearing my hair out by the root trying to figure out what "Rakushumi" was...
While we're on the subject of names, what about Cyan/Cayenne? Although they're spelled with the same initial letter in english, there's no such thing as a soft 'c' in japanese. Cayenne would be spelled something to the ends of KA-I-A-N or KA-I-E-N (something like that.) How that "k" sound became an "s" sound is way out of my grasp. ![]() I read in an old, old videogame mag that the main character's name in FF7 was to be "Claude," which is a common french name. Far, far more reasonable than "Cloud," which is just... atypical. Never heard anything about Barret being called Bullet, but given the way his name is written in japanese, it makes an awful lot of sense. I've also heard Aerith/Aeris was mean to be called Elyse (E-RI-SU.) -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

Heya I'm new here
I never heard of FFVII ever being planned as a sequal to VI but given its immense popularity it wouldn't have been a bad move. Like sticking with the cartridge formula another decade... I keep playing the game thinking I missed something, like the programmers put in a one chance in a thousand secret that no one's yet discovered. Probably just hope for unanswered questions for one of my all time fave games, Crono Trigger being the other and Xenogears and Symphony of the Night coming in real close. And I don't get the whole Zigfried/Sigfried 'someone is pretending to be me' thing. Well the only thing I can think of is that most of the main characters in all the FFs name sounds like or has to do with nature or color.
4 Cecil- uh dont know where he fits in, Rosa maybe? 5 dont know any about this one either 6 Terra- earth 7 Cloud- kind of obvious 8 Squall- sea storm 9.Garnet- redish color x Tidus- kind of like tide x2 Yuna- sounds like luna(moon) This post has been edited by Loose_Hair on 5th May 2005 13:23 -------------------- Life is not a practice, always play to win. Well, I suppose Cyan is the closest character to being a dragoon... perhaps he was origionally going to be one? I don't see how "Ki-an" sounds like "Kain". Though I assume many people pronounce it "Si-an", like the color, which would be incorrect. The name change may have been due to space contraints, but I wonder why the 'C' wasn't just changed to a 'K' in order to be more phonetically accurate. And since I guess we can just throw anything out here: In the FFVI opening (or ending? Can't remember) FMV in Anthology, at one point there's a close-up of Shadow's face on the Phantom Train and then a seemingly pointless white flash that doesn't last any more than a fraction of a second before the camera's on his face again. However, if you pause the video at the right moment you'll notice that they snuck in one of Amano's concept art sketches of Relm, which appears during that "flash". I haven't come across many people who've known about that, but it's a neat little secret I'm assuming Square put in to hammer home their relationship. 'Cause we're all stupid and totally never figured it out on our own or something... ![]() -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. Ohh, and Celes/Stars. Celestial means star-like, I think..
I thought it was neat how Celes and Terra had this opposite theme: -Celes used ice, while Terra used Fire -Celes's sprite wears green, Terra's real dress is red -Terra starts the game in World of balance, but Celes starts the World of Ruin. -Celes's name means stars, Terra's means earth -Terra wore a headpiece as a slave, Celes wore Locke's bandana when she was free from the Imperial Forces Though that's just what I've kinda seen, and from what a few fansites have talked about. -------------------- You're telling me that there's no hope. Quote (Webster's Dictionary @ 1995) cel-ses'tial (se-les'chal) a. 1 Of or pretaining to the sky. 2. Divine. That's probably not the fullest definition in the world but it helps for the purpose of contrasting Celes and Terra for the opposing themes theory though. Also, don't forget how Terra was a slave and how Celes was a high ranking offical. It's obvious but it's there. Also, I think RelmArrowny is refering to the Slave Crown that Arvis took off of Terra near the beggining of the game. Yeah, I think Arvis said he took it off of her head and even if not, where else would you put a Slave "Crown"? Anyway, whenever I think of FF VI and gossip I think of two in game NPCs: Possible spoilers: highlight to view 1. The guy who tells you about Kefka's magitek infusion and how it drove Kefka insane. 2. The guy who tells you That relm isn't Strago's real Grandchild. Anyway, I don't know why but they just seemed like the gossipy type and I never took them fully on their word. I think that they speak some truth but I'm not quite sure if they speak the fullest truth. I know, I know RPG rule number one, the NPCs are always right. Still this incredibly interesting, somewhat important yet mostly trivial knowlege practically just jumps right into your lap when you talk to these guys and there's no way to confirm it. Each of the two are the only ones willing to speak about the knowlege (the other people who would know never bring these things up) and it's not like you can actually find out if it's true or not just by doing a side quest as you can with the other NPCs. It all just seems a tad bit fishy to me. Hmm. . . Well, the topic is gossiping. I just think these guys are blapper mouth gossipers and thusly aren't entirely trustworthy scorces of info. . . Right, You got right..but in the FF anthologies version, in Art gallery , to be more accurate, is typed (all in japanese) like this: マシュ, not "マッシュ", I`ll check that more later, maybe my memory is not that good, but as I said you are right.
