This may have been discussed here.
I'm kinda new.
And returning.
Yeah.
Anyway, this is my favourite FF, next to FF3j, but the one thing I never liked about it is how you can load every character up with uber-magic. They give them each thier own unique skill, something that a few subsequent FF's sorely lacked, but overshadowed that by the ability to have 12 characters using Ultima.
So what I started to do is play the game the way that, in my opinoin, it SHOULD be played.
No magic, except for what Celes and Terra learn naturally through levelling.
No equipping Espers.
No equipping weapons or armor that teach spells.
None of that stuff.
Just the few spells they learn, and a heap of healing potions.
Seriously, it really changes the experience of the game.
Gau is suddenly useful!
The final battle is actually challenging!
The Fanatic's Tower is....well...hardly worth it.
You find yourself employing much more strategy than ever before.
If you haven't tried it, run out right now and do so!
I gauruntee you won't regret it.

And read my novel, too.

Sorry, couldn't resist that one.

Well, I'm not sure if that was the way the game was meant to be played. If the game was meant to be played without espers then they never would've been in the game to begin with.

And yes, this has been discussed before. A few times I believe, and many CoN members have attempted such a challenge. And many CoN members have achieved victory.

The game was meant to be played to win. How you go about that is your choice.

Why do so many people think I'm serious when I say 'the way it was meant to be played'?

Anyway, I just couldn't believe the new life it breathed into an old game.
I just like to share.
Cheers!

What you describe sounds very similar to the challenge called the "Natural Magic Game". You're not the first one to come up with it, but it is a fun way to play. smile.gif

If you want more of a challenge, try combining it with the "Low Level Game" (gain no experience that you can possibly avoid) and/or "No Equipment Game" challenges. smile.gif
