I was talking to a friend of mine that I hadn't seen in awhile when I went home for the weekend and we got to talking games. Evidentally he was a super-hardcore gamer but stopped playing games around four years ago. Being quite the aficionado, I asked to see his collection. The next day I visit his house (which I had never done, we were only friends from school), and I'm amazed at what I saw. He had two four-foot long bookshelves full of old PC strategy games and PS1 RPGs, at least sixty or seventy games. What really amazed me was that he had the first two Suikoden games in perfect condition with boxes and manuals and everything as well as Valkyrie Profile, Tactics Ogre, and several other games that I had heard of but never seen. We then had a conversation something like this:
Me: This is the most incredible collection I've ever seen. Dan: Yeah, I put way too much money into these; I haven't played any of them since I was like in middle school. Me: [pointing to Suikoden II and Valkyrie Profile] Dude, those two sell for insane amounts online. You could make a fortune selling some of this stuff off. Dan: [surprised] Really? How much could I get? You want any of it? So yeah, I gave him some estimates to the best of my ability and reccomended that he look at ebgames.com and check ebay prices for some of them. He decided that he would just take them to a game store but offered to sell some of them to me if I really wanted them. On impulse, I took us both out to lunch, stopped off at an ATM, and paid him $150 (WAY more than I ever spend on games) for Suikoden I and II (both of which I had played but never owned), Valkyrie Profile, and Tales of Destiny I and II (none of which I have ever played). I told him that Suikoden II alone could probably sell for nearly that much, but he told me that he'd just assume sell them to someone he knows than to Gamestop or something, and he was glad to be getting anything at all for them. So, long story short, I just got back to school a few hours ago and I'll probably be playing these games all summer and then some. I'm working on Suikoden II first though, so I can transfer save data to Suikoden III for a second playthrough of that later this year. I'm really chagrined that I deleted my Suikoden II save data from a rental years ago after I assumed that I would never given the chance to continue. Sorry for the lengthy and somewhat personal post, but the miser in me is amazed that my friend gave me such an incredible deal for something that I had only been dreaming of getting done for ages. If any of you live near Chantilly, VA, then you could probably find any PS1 RPG you're looking for (save the ones I bought) at the ebgames there. Peace out. Edit So what are your thoughts on any of those games? Did I get my money's worth or what? This post has been edited by laszlow on 22nd April 2005 13:41 -------------------- |

You lucky human being you. Congrats on the nice friend!
I noticed that the price of Valkyrie Profile dropped on Ebay last I checked. It would always sell for around 100+. Then, about three times I was outbid at the last second on copies that went for about 70 a month ago. I'm just waiting for the video game rental place by my house to go out of business because they have that game for rent. The guy refuses just to sell it!!! Augh... And on a side note, my friend and I watched a factory sealed FFVI for SNES sell for $650 on ebay. We cried. -------------------- This is my world: (Got my second chapter up, 3rd Chapter about 80% complete) http://www3.sympatico.ca/daniel876/homepage.html |

Yeah, I am lucky too.
I play D&D frequently, and I recently found out that my DM has Valkyrie Profile AND Suikoden II. I get to borrow them...eventually.
