RPGs have almost always had an obsession with Hidden Bosses who are much more powerful than the final boss of the game. Be they demons, aliens, extradimensional dieties, gods, ancient robots, super-powered versions of lesser creatures you've killed thousands of times before, or yo' momma threatening to unplug the game system if you don't get your butt into the dining room for dinner already, many RPGs have a horrifying powerful creature just waiting to smack the living crap out of the heroes, clear across the planet their trying to save.
Now, for the sake of argument, lets say some "Cosmic Entity" wanted to hold a contest, a fight to the death if you will, for its own entertainment. Tired of using human and humanoid mortal champions, said "Cosmic Entity" instead decides to pit every Hidden Super Boss it can find against one another. Of all the games you've played or heard about, of all the obscenely powerful Hidden Bosses you've fought, who do you think would win? Though it pains me, I would have to go with Emerald WEAPON from FF7. A close second would have to be the Black Rabbite from Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana 2). -------------------- And behold, I saw a Pale Gaming System, and the name of he who rode it was Squaresoft, and Enix followed him. |

Omega. It has 4 attacks per turn to throw just about every pwnage attack there is against its opponents.
If that's not enough, it's not even bound by the Level-99 limit: Its level is technically 119. (which would make it susceptible to L.7 and L.17 blue/number magic, but there so far exists no such spells in the Final antasy world.) 3|)17: @|\||) 1|= |\|07 |=0|2 @|\|y 07|-|3\2 |23@$0|\|, |33<@\/$3 Omega 1$ |)@ 1337. I can't decide between a couple. It's gotta be either
Possible spoilers: highlight to view Sephiroth from Kingdom Hearts, Nemesis from FF X (Penance, a palette-swapped super-Nemesis and toughest boss in the game, is only in the PAL version, so I haven't fought it), or maybe the Egg Dragon from Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals -------------------- |

Goomba! (Super Mario RPG)
Heres why: - Technically, he's hidden (If you play the game with your eyes closed) - Technically he's a boss (If you play the game with no sound, so you can't hear the boss theme - Finally, He could beat the crap outta Emerald WEAPON, Ruby WEAPON (at the same time o.o), Sephiroth, Kuja, that door boss.... In Seiken Densetsu 3, Kefka, a small bundle of twigs, and Seymour! All together, at the same time! Up hill! Both ways! Zzz...zz..... Well... That was my random rant... for the day. Seriously though, my actual vote would be for Omega (As GMH stated) I was unaware that he was lev. 119 o.o I didn't think monsters could go that high. -------------------- Link: "What is it?" Tough question... I think I'd go with either Ozma or Emerald Weapon.

Atomos isn't a super boss, though. Actually, he isn't much of a boss as it is...
I'll go with Culex. Because he's matter and antimatter. He can see your past and your future. He "consume[s] time and [he] will consume you!" Word. A close second would be Omega. Or possibly Siegfried, if he counts. If nothing else, he probably has a whole wine cellar full of Megaelixirs he's snatched off all the poor schmucks who've faced him, making him near-invincible, and that just ain't right! -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. Well, the first person I thought of when I read the first post was Culex but that's probably more of my inner Mario fan then it was difficulty. Afterall, if you equip the right stuff he can become quite the pushover. Anyway, my vote goes to the invincable "Gaurdian" of Vector. It can't even be damaged so why wouldn't it win? Sure, later in the game you can defeat a similar machine later in the game with the same name but as seen in Thamasa, there's more then one of them. So there's my vote. 0 damage, perfect victory all the way. Go Gaurdian.

Sephiroth on hard mode from Kingdom Hearts. One of the few bosses I've never beaten. When I first faced him he just went 'slash' with his sword.. and I died within a seconds of the battle starting!!! Classic! Just the way it should be. I could never even get half way through that battle on hard mode, though I admit I couldn't be bothered to level up to the maximum.

I'm going to have to go with Culex, he does have four crystals to block for him. -------------------- Could you repeat that? |

damn, i thought ozma was a freakin pain in the ass. so id have to go with ozma. KH sephy is also a great choice for this one. Green Magi has a good point with Culex and those damn crystals.

Does it count if the boss gives the game a true ending, or does that just make it the true final boss? I ask since some games make that true final boss hidden. If it does count, I'll say NeoGranzone from Super Robot Wars III would mop the floor with anyone. Basically, he has to be killed in a certain amount of time or his morale raises enough to boost his defense high enough to not take any damage from anything.

I'll go with Baal from Disgaea, even though Uber Prinny is stronger, it's not a boss...
Second I'd go for Penance from FFX. He is a horrible battle even with full stats! And as a special mention Xenocide, the ego of Hate, you have to choose one of your top four party members to summon him then kill it while keeping that member alive. It also adopts all their skills. He's so well hidden he's from a game that was never made. Now THAT is hidden. -------------------- The Arcana are the means by which ALL is revealed. |

I don't think Emerald Weapon would win because he'd duel with Warmech, and they'd take each other out. Also, if I remember correctly Aire Tam Storm or whatever the heck that attack is called deals damage based on Materia equipped. That means it only does damage to FF7 heroes, which are obviously not present. So he'd have to resort to less powerful attacks, putting him on par with the damn NUKE attack.
Black Rabite could easily hide (and is hard to find, too!), and when Siegfried comes looking around, he'll just get himself eaten in one gulp.. Pink Puffs from FF4 would just dance and run awy, but eventually they'll get worn down and melted away by Wyvern from the same game. Czar Dragon would potentially kill everything in sght, but even the "Cosmic Entity" wouldn't be ablet to find him, so he'd be disqualified. Everyone else I have no clue about, so they don't exist for me. ![]() So... I see Wyvern vs. Black Rabite. I say Black Rabite iwns. This post has been edited by RoyalKnight on 12th April 2005 20:49 |

I'm going with SaintWeapon here, people: Baal from Disgaea. You haven't seen power until you've seen Baal use Gran Sword. I'm not exagerating when I say that thing does over 300,000 damage if you get lucky!!!! The only thing I can think of that could stop that would be Pringer X from Phantom Brave. As the player's guide says, "He's like fighting ten Baals at once". Plus, he's invincible as long as that weird remote thingy is behind him. Whoever fought him would have to kill that first, which would give Pringer more than enough time to win. Seriously, no other hidden boss could even come close to him in terms of shear awesomeness (which, as of now, is a word

Yeah, Diablo Clone can be tough, especially when you play hardcore like me. In one of the rare events that he spawns in a regular game, someone usually gets killed permanently trying to take him down.
But in the end, I'd go with Kangaxx the Demi-Lich from Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn. All the other enemies would be imprisoned in a small prison deep within the earth for eternity before the lich could be touched. Beat that! |

I never thought Ozma was that bad; after all of the horror stories I read online about it I was worried, but I didn't find it too difficult. The key is wearing darkness-proof armor, auto-haste and auto-life, healing every turn, and tons of auto-9999 attacks, like Shock or fully powered Dragon Crest, Frog Drop, or Thievery. Another hidden boss that's worthy of mention is the level 10 Orochi Iori from King of Fighters '97. It took my neighbor something like five years to beat the bum on his old Neo-Geo (most underrated console of all time, even more so than my precious Dreamcast), and I only could after he let me hold on to the NG for him while he went away to college and I was in eighth grade. I played nothing but SNK fighters on it for something like seven straight months before I could kill the bastard.

Elidibs from FFT's Deep Dungeon would take the crown here.
Let's look at the guy.... he's a heroic wizard from Gariland Magic City, corrupted by the evil of a holy stone and driven mad with power. He burrows deep into the earth to set up his "kingdom" of 9 levels of darkness, filled with all manner of human murderers and insane beasts. THEN, if the bold finally reach him at the bottom level, he is surrounded by an entourage of beasts that could give archaic demons a butt whooping. I dunno bout you all, but Omega wiped the floor with me without using holy wars. I've never recieved such a beating before, nor so thouroughly. I've actually never managed to beat him legit yet.
So the all powerful FFVIII boss gets my vote. Did FF legend have an optional boss? I don't remember any that weren't forced upon me. -------------------- |

FF Legend II's second-to-last world was basically one huge optional hidden dungeon, with WarMech from FFI being the optional super boss. I've beaten the game, but only read about the hidden dungeon (and thus had to beat the game without many of the game's best weapons... but I'm an impatient sort).

I'm voting Shinryuu from FF5, because I just beat him and it was so annoyingly annoying to have to steal all those Hiryuu lances and master the ninja class for my spellcasters and all. If I hadn't had a FAQ, I would never have won. And then, about five battles' worth of the time, he did Big Guard and I didn't kill him in time and to death I went.

I take it all back. Hands down: Lucifer from Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. He can only really be hurt (enough that it actually counts) with one specific skill, and can easily destroy your whole party in a single round.
But then, Shin Megami Tensei games are just more difficult on average, so Lucifer may not be quite as hard proportionately speaking. But jesus. Bosses like that are the stuff of Nightmares. I've also read tell of a similarly nigh-impossible beast in SMT: Digital Devil Saga, but have yet to even try going after him. -------------------- And behold, I saw a Pale Gaming System, and the name of he who rode it was Squaresoft, and Enix followed him. |
