Make Caves of Narshe site more obvious

I have a suggestion.

I've noticed quite a few people come onto this site and they start asking how do I get past this boss, or how do I complete some random part of this final fantasy game.

I came across this 'Forum' via a search engine, which I pointed out in my previous post. This means I didn't find out about the actual Caves of Narshe site that has all the artwork and guides for final fantasies, etc for some considerable time.

Anyway my point is the fact that the site exists, isn't particulary obvious. How do you know that to access the site you have to click the link at the top left of the site, if you've only just joined? I had no idea, I suggest the site and a link be made more obvious.

This would hopefully mean less annoyance for mods from people asking questions which are answered on this site already.

Sorry if this has already been suggested. thumbup.gif

You know, I'm gonna go ahead and second the motion. I started at the forums as well, and it took me some time to take a look at the site. On the forum main page, there is one small link to www.cavesofnarshe.com With all the questions that are handled in the walkthrough and all the other info on the site, it seems logical to make more of an issue out of it.

Agreed. It would be easier and more convenient that way.

For once, a proposal that I actually agree with. smile.gif I checked all the skins today, and the only one that is really a bold, large link is CoN3, and even that you need to mouseover to know for sure what it is. I'm going to research this a bit to see if there's a way that is both obvious and doesn't look like a 14 year old "graphic designer" did it.

Maybe you can put a link to it beneath the 'CoN' graphic of 'CoN Discussion Forums' and have 'Discussion Forums' point to here.

You know, I really never thought about this. For those of you who've been around since the Ikonboard era, you might have noticed that it was pretty hard to come straight into the forums from a search engine back then; we never really anticipated the forums being an entry point into the site, and it caught us by surprise a little when they started to show up in search results.

You're right, this is something we should look at. Good suggestion.

And here I thought I was always alone when someone told me there was a link back to the site from the forums and I went "huh?" blink.gif

Perhaps one just under/just above the "Caves of Narshe Forums" link at the top that says "Caves of Narshe Main Site" or something, unless that's what GMH said and my brain's not working right (again)? Maybe even one or two font points larger just to make it stand out "subtly"? Maybe then people trying to backtrack to the main forum page will see that and go "eh?"... unsure.gif

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we used to have a sorting link arrow above "Caves of Narshe Forums" that said "Caves of Narshe" and took you to the home page? I could've sworn that's how it used to be. That always worked just fine for me.

I think it might well have been that way on Ikonboard. Might be a good starting point.

That seems like the most logical solution to me. Or you could change the link on that big ol CoN text up top to take you to the homepage. Seems redundant to have it link to the forums if you're already here.

I third (or whatever number we're on) this motion. I always thought I was just being a moron or missing out on something for feeling that hyperlinks from the forum into the main site were very inconvenient (and of course, I always knew well enough to just remove "/forums" from the address bar to get to the site anyway).

But, one thing in particular that bugs me about our current, tiny link in the CoN4 skin is that the cursor must be moused over it ever so carefully to get the link to highlight--click on anything above the bottom two pixels of a letter in the link and there's no response.

I never first entered here via the forums, but I always wondered to myself "Why doesn't the staff have any link to the main page from the forums?". Someone pointed at that there IS a link, I just somehow missed it every time (CoN5 skin , btw). Of course, as Phoenix pointed out, you can always change the URL in the address bar, but it's a matter of convenience. I'm glad this was brought up and glad the staff is looking into it. happy.gif

Edit
I believe I missed the link back to CoN's homepage every time because I always read it as "Caves of Narshe Forum Rules - PLEASE READ", rather than the link to CoN and the link to the Forum rules as separated.

Does all this mean we're getting a CoN6 skin?

Wouldn't that require a CoN6? Or are you just being clever?

Anyway, we're looking into this. We'll figure something out one way or another, as Tiddles has already mentioned.
