Is a link to the Japanese site for the upcoming RPG(!) Namco vs. Capcom, what do you think? Will it be released in the west? If so, will YOU get it?

Personally from the looks of the battle system I'd say it's a strat RPG with Bahamut Lagoon-esque cut scenes and the character lineup seems to take some of the best from games like Tekken and Darkstalkers. However given the facts I doubt the story will be up to much at all...still. I'd get it! Fan service. ^-^

I noticed mentioning of this game from planet-megaman a few weeks ago, I think. I've heard that some Tales characters and some Xenosaga characters make appearances, notably KOS-MOS, but I wouldn't be surprised that it gets REALLY eclectic, hopefully they pull in Dante (from DMC) and the Prince (from KD) wink.gif.

Heh, this looks pretty neat. I wonder if its pretty much a purely fighting game or if there are some RPG elements.

The site lists the game's genre (in Japanese) as a "simulation RPG," though I'm sure that doesn't mean it's like the SIMs or anything. It looks pretty cool. Actually, a lot of the screenshots make it look like a pretty damn good anime instead of a game. If it seems the game mechanics are done well, I would actually love to play it...

... funny thing though: I don't really recognize any of the Namco characters I'm seeing blink.gif .

Yes, the guy from Ghouls n' Ghosties is a PC.

From Namco I've seen Jin and P.Jack from Tekken, Shion and Kos-Mos from Xenogears, Mitsurugi & Casandra from Soul Calibour...eh, there are around 200 characters so you can bet about 100 are Namco's and about 60% of Capcom's will be Street Fighter Characters. =P

I also read the intro is fully animated and done by the 'Ghost in the Shell' guys.

Could be good, could be bad. I'd put my bet on bad, since it's more or less an established historical fact that fighting game characters don't fit well into any other genre. (Mortal Kombat Sub Zero and Special Forces proved that well enough.) If they pull it off well, it could be cool, though. Here's hoping.

The only characters I know is the knight from SG&G, Morrigan from DarkStalkers, XenoSaga girl, Chuni-Li and Ryu, Regina from Dino Crisis, and Hsien-Ko from DarkStalkers.

This game looks more awesome everytime i look at it. Its apparently like a Strategy RPG with a Tales of series real-time battle engine. And its not so much a versus, as it is a massive crossover. I used to love pointlessly massive crossovers in comics, so this game oughta be a nostalgic dream come true!

I recognized KOS-MOS, Morrigan Aisenland (I think that's her last name...), Demetri Maximoff (SCORE!!!), Mitsurugi, Strider, Ryu, Cassandra, Chun-Li, Arthur (from Super Ghouls 'n' Ghosts), Jin (I think... could be Kazuya), and I think the guy from Resident Evil: Outbreak. The lineup lacks Dante and Mega Man, but I might decide to get it if the price drops.
Edit
Was that stretchy thing really Hsien-Ko? Hard to tell from that picture...

in fact that is not cassandra but rather valkyrie from valkyrie profile. that means they only included ONE character from sc and ONE from tk (which is indeed jin kazama, not kazuya). which is pretty much bs, but i'm looking to the game to probably suck anyway. also, that stretchy thing isn't hsien-ko, but "borabo man" from "superior companion borabo man," according to that site.

Valkyrie Profile was Enix, not Namco. I'm almost positive it's Cassandra's 3rd costume from SC II. I'm not getting the game until I can find a more complete character roster on a FAQ or something. If it lacks Dante, Mega Man, Jon Talbain, Ziggy, Cervantes, AND Nightmare, then there's no way I'm getting it.

That most definitely is Cassandra, 3P costume. I recongize that stupid helmet anywhere.

I hope this game has Mega Man. Capcom isn't Capcom without Mega Man. And I'm talkin' original series Mega Man, not those cheap impersonators. Okay, Mega Man X is cool, too. Be awesome if you could have him in this game. KNowing Capcom, they'd probably throw in Zerio before even thinking about tossing in X though.

Street Fighter 2010.

I will quote the instruction manual.

Quote
Ken grew up in a world of violence. He mastered the martial arts at a very
early age and went on a global tour to challenge the greatest Street Fighters
of the world. He was victorious. Upon returning to his home country he enroll-
ed at Bargham University and began his life study in the field of Cybotics.
While at Bargham, he was befriended by a gifted classmate named Troy. After
many years, they perfected a revolutionary discovery they named Cyboplasm.

This substance, when properly administered, could make a man several times
stronger than normal. This came at a good time, for mankind had just perfected
travel to the "frontier" of other worlds. Ken had no interest in traveling to
the new frontier, but he was glad their invention could be helpful.

One day he came to their lab and found it nearly destroyed. His partner Troy
was killed, and their formula was stolen. The killer escaped to the new
worlds. Ken knew he must avenge his fallen friend. He now has a very keen
interest in the frontier...

Please retract your statement now.

Just so you know, Mega Man (and also my fave Felecia from DS) is confermed for the game but have no pics yet. You'll also prolly find there are quite a few more from Tekken and Soul Calibur but a 'lot' haven't been even anounced yet.

ok thank both of you for your input but actually i read japanese and even more cassandra is my best character in sc2, a game i still play religiously. for these reasons, i said "in fact, that is valkyrie" not "i think that is valkyrie." i wouldn't have said "in fact" if it was a point of debate.

edit: i admit a mistake -- the game is valkyrie legend, not, of course, valkyrie profile. i'm not sure why i typed profile -- maybe jsut more common association with the word valkyrie. at any rate, you should have known it wasn't valkyrie profile because there is no character in that game named "valkyrie" (excepting lenneth's last name).

Gotcha. I don't speak/read Japanese, and I admittedly have never played Valkyrie Profile or this Valkyrie Legend, so I was just reacting to what I was reading. Now that I think of it, do you think Cassandra's 3P costume was inspired by this Valkyrie Legend?

Huh. Well, whuddaya know. Still, its a dead ringer for Cass, which is why I thought it was her. Stupid helmet and all. I think they would stick Sophitia in the game before Cassandra, since Sophitia is one of the focus characters in the SC series (at least to begin with).

You mean Sophitia? Whatever. If they put in any other characters with Mitsurugi, it'll probably be some combination of Sophitia, Taki, Kilik, Xianghua, or Nightmare. If Namcom wants to make this game awesome, they should shove in more cameos than anyone could recognize, even if only a fraction of them are playable characters. Think sixty or seventy Mega Man bosses, at least thirty Street Fighter characters, the entire cast of Soul Calibur, more is better.

it looks very interesting! i would like to try out that game if it were ever to be released in the US. the wide variety of character really interests me. im curious to see how the plot unfolds with such a diverse group of characters.

It'll probably get outdated because now that PS3 is coming out as well as Xbox 2. It looks bad already, though.

Mega Man and Roll are both confirmed to be playable, they're shown in the latest trailers of the game. I want this game. Badly.
