It would be great if anyone could explain the stats and teach me the ropes of the Caves Of Narshe Forums....

OK. First, I'm not sure what you're asking. Second, if it's anything like what I assume you're asking, the FF7 forum probably isn't where it belongs. Moving to Comments.

Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN?

You remind me of a young me, so I guess I'll show you the ropes.

But then after I help you become succesful you'll probably hook up with some flashy mentor who promises you loads of money and fame etc and kick me to the curb. Then tensions will mount between us eventually culminating in a street brawl where I have to beat your brash young self through my misery. Somewhere in there: a montage.

Ya know what...ya better just read the rules and learn the ropes for yourself.

It's basically common sense stuff. Post topics in the right spot, don't be a jerk, don't make worthless threads, don't spam.

Oh, and NEVER ask for a custom avatar. Hell hath no fury like a moderator's scorn.

I think what Racthoh has said here is something you (as well as every newbie around) should understand. I'm not saying you don't have it; in any case, I made my share of mistakes when I was a newbie.

But in general, don't make liberal (I mean freer, not politically liberal) judgements as to what forums allow. After observing what people do for a while, you should know how much people appreciate of what. Some message boards, like CoN, are pretty strict at the rules, and like things neat and in order. In another message board I've been at, the mods barely care if people change the topic, bump threads, adverstise their own junk, and flame each other. Thing is, though, you won't want to make mistakes of changing topics, bumping threads, advertising your own junk, and flaming other posters before you know what the forum culture is like. (For reference, it is strongly recommend that you do NOT change thread topics, bump threads without contributing to their meaning, advertise junk, or flame other members around here.)

Keep a humble head around here at first, and observe carefully who get their input appreciated and who get moderator-edits. After a while, you should be able to tell how people interact here, and how this place is run.

And yes, DON'T EVER ask for a custom avatar. If the staff want to give you one, they'll ask you what you want. On the other hand, see the nearby avatars thread for more information, especially on the mods' attitude toward custom avatar requests or avatar database expansion requests.

One more thing: The Rules and Help pages generally tend to be VERY helpful. In fact (no kidding), these days, I usually read the rules and decide whether I'd like to tolerate them before I decide to join a message board.

But in all cases, use common sense. For example, if you see a person getting warned by a moderator for double-posting, you might not want to do that. And of course, you shouldn't do stupid things like spamming forums with nonsense (as much as I appreciate nonsensical humor, I'm not a mod, and I won't be able to help you there).

Are you refering to the Chat Stats perhaps?

Because those are thing having to do with the CoN chat, and have nothing to do with the forums in the slightest.
