In My mind it should be bards doing the damage not the Dancers
What do you have to say Dancers ATK or Bards ATK Moderator Edit Edited topic title so that it makes sense. Though, to be honest, I'm not sure what you're on about. Can you give your rational for this? Sounds like it wouldn't matter either way, to me at least. Care to sway my opinion a lil' with an example?

Damage with dance steps or damage by singing.... both sound a tad far fetched to me.

I'm going to have to go with dancer. In dancing there could be many damaging dance steps, such as, stepping on someone's toes, kicking them, smacking them. I suppose a bard could paralyze someone and hurt their ears if they were singing horribl enough but I would consider dancing to have more action and therefore be more of an attack oriented class, where a bard would be more of a stat oriented attack class.

I say both to an extent, like in FF5 where both the Bard and Dancer can cause damage at certain times. The Bard can damage undead with Requiem and the Dancer cause damage with Sword Dance. So I think they should be given an opportunity to both cause some damage. But I do not think I have ever used a Bard or Dancer once in FFT so it doesn't really matter to me.

Okay , while Dancer is an attack job, the antagonistic job will be a healer, the Bard..just as a white and black mage are.Of course, most people don`t use both a dancer and a bard in their same party, (like me) but if the dancer were the healer, there will be no difference. So for me, a dancer is OK.

Does it really matter? How should singing harm an enemy instead of dancing? The developers obviously wanted some gender-specific classes that affect all allies or all enemies, and I thought Dancer and Bard filled the bill nicely. That's being a little picky, but at least you aren't complaining about characters not being short enough.

Bards and Dancers are supposed to be rewards for training a gender in the path you normally wouldn't. In FFT, females wern't as good as males when it came to fighting, and the opposite was true of using magic. Therefore, if you trained a male to use magic, or a female to fight, then you could eventually use a 'special' class. Seeing as, historically, the Bards have been mostly males, and the Dancers have been mostly females, they choose these two identities for their special classes. It had more to do with Male/Female Fighting/Magic-using than it had to do with Bard/Magic-using Dancer/Fighting. At least that's how I understood it; if any of my assumptions about FFT are wrong (Males being weaker with magic, etc.) then you can correct me.

Lemme think of FF's most famous dancer.
Hmm. It might be that human-loving, fast-talking, street-smart, SLAM-dancing... moogle... who dealt out much damage. In that vein the Damaging Dancer is very much in the Squaresoft tradition. And the most famous bard is, of course, the spoony one, who, um. ![]() -------------------- Some ghost of me might greet my son the day he is delivered. Eternal Sleep, Track 1-1: The Blue Planet |

Who cares who does damage, 24 points of damage isn't going to change the tide of battle and you're better off with a bard that can heal without MP and heals MP as well. Best supportive class if paired with White Magic if you ask me...

Elena brings up a good point so I'm gonna have to say dancers should be the one doing the damage.

As I see it:
The angelic voice of the bard is enough to inspire the hearts of his fellow allies. I like how the game describes the dancer: Warrior who dances in battle in charming costumes. Can 'Dance' and disturb enemies. -------------------- This is my world: (Got my second chapter up, 3rd Chapter about 80% complete) http://www3.sympatico.ca/daniel876/homepage.html |

Personally, I always think of Bards as "support" characters. If they did damage, I would actually be upset.

I never use either of them, but reading this topic makes me think that I should.

Quote (FabulousFreebird @ 30th March 2005 01:31) I never use either of them, but reading this topic makes me think that I should. Have a bard sing the song that increases your party's speed and the dancer dance the one that decreases enemies'. Within 4-5 turns, your party will start getting double turns. Let it run for a while and soon enemies won't even be able to take any action. They're like non-instantaneous calculators but better. Reading the description of various dance abilities gives good insight as to why they're "damaging" (oddly enough, only one dance actually damages.) A female character dancing, for instance, distracts characters and causes various mishaps. In good 'ol cartoons from our childhoods (well... I'm 20. Some of our childhoods...), singing hardly distracted someone in a charmed-like stupor, especially when it's a male character. Female character? I can definitely see why status effects like confuse would crop up, or enough distraction to reset CT to 0. Furthermore, bards are always depicted as being beneficial to a party. Their spells work on the basis that their singing inspires their fellow party members (again, descriptions: they sing songs of might and deeds of valor, or praising magic and describing its basic theory.) Even in anime, they are beneficial to the party as opposed to detrimental to the enemy (directly at least; Record of Lodoss War.) Seeing as the original poster never gave a reason, I hardly see where this is going... ![]() -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

Good point Silverlance. as for me i did have a cupple of bards and danchers. but i really didn't use them that much. the rest of there skillls where a lot better so i didn't need them hardly at all. but yes the dancher should attack and the bard should support. thats all i have to say.

The way I see it is like this...
If you have a male fighter, you are most likely going to invest his power in physical attack. (Why I don't know, that's just the way a lot of people do it.) A male fighter has to have the chance to do healing techniques, which is where the bard comes in. You can get the bard by raising other characters as the job he needs and he will gain the levels, and the bard's are not that bad at healing, either. -------------------- "There is not a liberal America and a conservative America - there is the United States of America.
