Right now I'm going for a perfect game so I have to do both.

I'm sorry if this has already been done but I have run a seach and nothing came up.

I do the chocobo breeding thing first, then later if I feel like it, I'll use the rewards of chocobo breeding to kick Ruby's ass.

There are four special materia caves that can be accessed via Chocobo only (in these caves you get HP<->MP, Mime, Quadra Magic, and Knights of The Round), you can see Vincent's hidden backstory scene before you find the submarine, you can access the Ancient Forest before Ultima Weapon clears a path, the list goes on.[EDIT]Check the bottom of this page, under the heading "Around the World, Riding My Chocobos"

I've always waited until I beat Ruby Weapon. A lot of the mini-games in FF7 were crap, really...

You probably need the reward from breeding to beat Ruby. I've only gone up against him in a couple of those experimental "see what he looks like" kind of battles, and he smacked me down before my ATB gauges were full.

Well, I was really into the Chocobo Breeding thing in this one, and naturally, I have 6 or em'. The Gold Chocobo you get from the Kalm Travelver just plain-out sucks in chocobo racing! Good ol' home bred ones are better. But whichever way you wanna go...

I breeded since I could never defeat Ruby. Emerald was easier for me to beat tho.

I always start with the breeding, just 'cuz it needs to be done to have a "perfect" file.

Man do I hate chocobo breeding
