At first, I wanted to do only FF6, but now, I think we'll just stick with all the Squaresoft games.

I'll take out three for this. First is the Ultros battle at the Opera House. It was a good lengthy fight, and it was fun too, with the music (and you get to hear it all because of the length of the battle).

The second is the battle against Miguel in Chrono Cross. I was playing the game with a friend at that time, and we just couldn't forget the dialogue that went through before the battle and the music as well.

The third is the first boss of Einhander (hey, it's a Squaresoft game). I could just remember my first futile attempts to beat him, and the music sounds good too (sigh...it's always the music, huh?).

Culex in SMRPG. It was so hard, yet so fun.

Any Ultros Battle in FF6, Ultros is an octopus, how can you beat that?

Warmech in FF1, Warmech is just the hardest fight in that game, which makes it a challange.

Frog vs. Magus in Chrono Trigger. I don't think any other battle in a Squaresoft game is quite so personal. Even when I'm going through the game expecting to bring Magus with me, sometimes I get too tempted and fight Magus anyway.

Final Battle --FF6 --the all-time greatest battle in any game that i've played. It wasn't like some games where it's a direct battle against the villain. Before you face Kefka, you have to face his "entertainment". Truly an epic battle. Plus, the music during this battle sequence is godly. A perfect end battle to the perfect game

first battle against Magus --CT --the music and the dialogue before the battle really set the mood. Truly one of the funnest battles in the game.

second battle against Magus --CT --like Gears mentioned, it's almost worth giving up recruiting Magus just so you can have the one-on-one matchup of Frog vs. Magus.

Pandemonium battle --FF9 --the music is good, it's a challenging chain of battles, and it was a really great part of the game.

i have more, but these are my favorites

My favorite battle is definately the end battle for Final Fantasy 6.  Here's this guy Kefka that's been smacking you around and playing god with the world for an entire year.  Getting the chance to kick his insane guy back to hell was truly a pleasure.  Not only that, but I like how all the characters (save two) get to confront him and exact personal revenge for what he's done.  Yay!

My runner-up is Evil Wall, strange enough.  I liked the sense of urgency when fighting him, the massive amount of death he can deal out in short distances, and his all-around coolness.  Since I get whooped by him more times than I care to tell, I always get great satisfaction when I beat him.

I also liked the battle that takes place in the Secret of Mana, between the main characters and Thanatos.  Thanatos looked cool, neat music was playing, and the battle is all around lots of fun.  I liked fighting him because while playing SoM he was everywhere you were and you were always so close to kill him, but not quite close enough.  Dealing the final blow to that body-stealer was great revenge!

Honorable mention goes to Warmech in FF1.  To be beaten by a random monster more than all bosses in the game combined certainly demands recognition.  He was awesome to fight and I enjoyed every battle with him along that tiny strip, which made me spend more time there than any other place in the game.

My last great battle is in Super Mario RPG, against Chef Torte and Bundt.  This battle fits perfectly into the oddball game, and one which I think is among the funniest.  It's not hard or anything, but always comes to my mind when I hear Super Mario RPG.  I mean come on, it's an attacking cake!  Great battle.

My favorite battle from a squaresoft game would have to be Chaos. You just get a certain feeling durring the battle. Your fighting these fiends the intire game, then you get to the last stage, and your transported 2000 years into the past to this strange place filled with ancient... well, Chaos. You get up to the last monster, and there's no "You'll never defeat me!" speach, its "I've already won" and "You don't even exist". You feel like no matter what you do it won't matter, but you have to do something anyway; you feel hopless. Then you get through the battle and it tells you about how no one will ever know what happened, because it sort-of never happened. I don't know, It's just a cool feeling, and it adds emotion to the battle.

My favorite Squaresoft battle is Golgorand Execution Site simply because it's one of the most challenging battles in that game, particularly if you don't use Agrias or Mustadio.  Those two give great options on dispatching some of the eight characters your five are matched up against, and taking them away limits what you can do.  That battle, to me, is the epitome of all strategy battles...it takes a lot of raw strategy (as well as a little luck) to win that one.

Honorable mention goes to the Dread Slime in Secret of Mana.  A slime that gets humongus the more damage you do to it, limiting your movement?  It's awesome to just pummel it to death with Shade and watch the 999's pile up.

Good point, Neal, I had forgotten about the execution site. It was particularly challenging/fun. I didn't like that game much, but that was a good battle.

Cluex in SMBRPG. One of the only battles I ever remember where I would battle for over a half and hour, FINALLY win, and then reset and do it again. Plus one of the fun ones where I could blast the music so loud I would go deaf :)

Any of the Ultima/Omega/etc. battles in all FF games were fun too cuz it puts you up against a challenge that was so hard it was fun :)

Ozma in FF9 was NOT fun, but it was definately a challenge well worth the effort of leveling up and strategy to defeat him.

I was going to mention a battle from Tales of Destiny 2 that was fun too: The battle that has Reid vs. Arche and Cress. That one battle was the hardest I've ever faced in my life, and yet it was the funnest too, cuz it was back and forth the whole way.

i like the battle with kefka and general leo in FF6. its kind of cool just to see leo's attacks and watch kefkas antics.

and i like fighting spekkio in CT for items. when you get up to level 99, and you start getting spekkio cheerful sets, its almost worth doing new game+ each time just for that.

In FF7, the fight against proud clod.  You got the shin-ra music going, it's thier last ditch attack.  I mean who doesn't want to kick Hiedigger or Scarlet's butt?  I don't care about Sephrioth, I just stop after beating Hojo, weird but true, hated the ending too.

In Chrono Trigger, the last two fights against Lavos.  Bring Lucca and Frog along...and man I get so angry, i just have to whomp on that sucker.

In Chrono Cross, the fight against Miguel.  He was mucklucky tough...boy that place really creeped me out, especially those ghost girls that cast wildely powerful magic.

In Secret of Mana, the fight against Thanatos, you got the awesome music going, and he basicly killed DYLUCK!!!! Meh...

Lastly, In Xenogears (a must play if you haven't, but be prepare for the tedious 2nd disc...) the fights against Ramsus and the Elements in their 'combined gears.'  Reminds me of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, when they were cool.

(Note: These are in no particular order, there are more, but i've either fogotten temporily or something else...)

Forgot!  FF4, Paladin vs. Dark knight.  An interesting way of 'battling those inner demons' and redeeming himself.

Thumbs up, people!

The fight against bahamut in FF3, god it was pathetic. this was a few years ago before a decent translation was available. I though killin bahamut was required so i sat there hacking away, healing and hacking away some more. but i could never kill him >_<  up until i found a good translation and figured out... you just run.

Culex in SMRPG. he was the only challenging boss in the game. it took me hours to kill him. i was always cursing cuz he would kill me so much. but great crossover fight  :E

Ozma in ff9, i loved that. the fight seemed so hopeless. then i realized how good of a character steiner was when you get the excalibur 2...

The mana beast in SoM that was the greatest. I didnt know you needed to use the sword on him the first time through so all i had used on the main char was the spear. the fight was loooong and hard.

And Lastly the fights with kefka, what a clown. he goes from superwuss to supervillain. his final form true art, though lacking a bit in offense. i used to run around going "Run Run or you'll be well done!" when i was littler heheheh.....

1. Terra VS Phunbaba Prt 1 and 2 FF6
Amazing what you can do when you have to fight. I took one look at Phunbaba and thought "That ugly fiend must die". To see Terra get her butt handed to her then watch her Kill off Phunbaba for good during her second fight in her Esper form gave me the feeling that Terra is back.

2. Sephiroth VS any monster FF7(Cloud Kalm sequence)
I always enjoy watching Sephiroth fight he really gives you feel of an unstoppable warrior when you see him compared to Cloud(at any level).

3. Cloud(and two others) VS Sephiroth FF7
From Bizarro, Safer then finally in the lifestream its wonderful to the end of a built up rivalry.

4. The Paladin VS The Dark Knight FF4
I ended up defending the first time I fought the Dark Knight because I had no other options I rarely get a fight like that.

5. Golbez and FuSoYa VS Zemus FF4
A wonderful display of Magic at its best especially Double Meteo.

6. Galuf VS ExDeath FF5
Galuf goes all out against ExDeath really good to watch. Its worth playing FF5 to see this sequence.

7. Returners VS Kefka FF6
A long fight drawing everyone into the conflict. The only quirk is Kefka takes so long to dissolve.

8. Cecil,Rosa,Kain,Rydia,Edge VS Zeromus FF4
Seeing everyones wishes and beating the big groutesque monster down always makes you feel good.

9. Light Warriors VS Garland FF1
Only 200 hp each and the four Light Warriors beat Garland easily and I was prepared for a long drawn fight.

10. Kefka VS Gesthal FF6
You might not count it as a fight but boy is it fun to watch.

FF3: Odin - just common like him. And like the Defense effect of the summon.

FF4: Kain vs. Cecil - it really shows what a Dragoon can do. Runner-up: Cecil, Edge, Rydia, Rosa and Cid against Rubicante - this guy heals YOU before you fight! What's not to like?

FF5: Any Gilgamesh fight - the guy's my fave NPC!

FF6: Atma/AtmaWeapon - this guy's ancient, evil and all-powerful! I wanna have him as a pet!
