I got to the battle at Igros castle, where you see Zalbag battling Dycradarg (SP?) and watched the scene, preparing for my battle. (I intended to kill Zalbag myself and slay all the knights for EXP before the battle ended)

What confused me was the mission objective:
"Defeat Dycradarg's (SP?) elder brother"

What the hell does that mean? Is he not the eldest brother? Or was that supposed to be what he is, in that case, they messed up the sentance o.o

This kinda confused me, what about the rest of yah?

Yeah I noticed that as well. I think it was suppose to be "Defeat Dycedarg" or "Defeat Dycedarg Elder Brother" but they threw in that possessive "s" that messed it all up. But there are other grammer and spelling mistakes throughout the game. I noticed once or twice where there was a space missing between two words.

Yeah, that little mission statement can be racked up as one of Tactics' infamous translation botches.

A near flawless game in almost every aspect except one.... the translation. That was one place of many where the japanese was translated poorly to english for this great game. It makes me wonder.... did anyone spellcheck and edit this game before it released?

Seeing as FFs haven't had any past problems( at least nothing major), it's likely that this game had little to no checks made after completion. I still love the good ol' Bracelets. Nothing like hot dragon BRACELETS.

I like the parts where the spelling was fine, but the phrase made absolutely no sense at all. what does "layer upon layer, make your mark now!" have to do with moving faster, anyway?

I envisioned it as making each layer of the body more in-tune, like the skin, then the muscles, capillaries and veins, etc. I guess it could also mean absolute nonsense as well because it doesn't have much to do with going faster in itself.

"Full rank, mark now, and hut!" was one call that my high school marching band used to indicate the entire band ("Full rank") to change speeds. ie, they would give the call, and in between "mark now" and "and hut" they would pause to count out two beats of eighths to set the new tempo. I always assumed that the spell was a bad translation of a similar military command.

Yes, the translation is a MAJOR problem in the game.

I've been replaying it for the third time, and at the "Sand Rat Cellar" opening it said "Cellar of Sand MOUSE". What?

haha, bad translation really ruins the whole game ,boys, but luckily we have all common sense to figured out what the sentences trying to say, like Holy Bracelet it must be Holy breath, so the mystery ends here,shinjutsei.. put in the place of the translators, Larry can also be translated as Rally, they really have a hard time..
I don`t understand "layer upon layer" thing, but nevermind..
