"Graphics are what makes us play the games!"

The whole issue is depressing because it means, possibly, that more time will be spent refining graphics rather than the finer points on gameplay, or an RPG's story for example.

Hey Kame's answer is cool.

..well I guess there's no harm in sending some constructive critisism to square enix and companies you think should have some obvious improvements in certain games of their's. I think some of these companies often welcome what their fans would like to see stay and what should be changed. Best to keep it short and to the point though.

People these days are horrible morons who aren't interested in gameplay... They don't even deserve to play video games...

That I cannot agree with, though sometimes I want to. Sometimes realization to a fact takes longer then it should. The fact that graphics are only a bonus has yet to hit people like that. And unfortunately, that isn't going to happen anytime soon, until Square-Enix or another big game company makes a game with both good graphics and a good storyline without cheapening the gameplay.

Well how often do you guys play games that were created before you were born?

Quite a lot, actually. Seeing as how the early Final Fantasy's tend to be much better games than the new ones that are released.

Could you repeat that?

The fact is, the graphics are the only technical way a game can improve these days. Gameplay, storyline, and other things like that can be made better, but it takes creative effort, which is not strictly a technical aspect. All the manipulative tricks with objects can and have been done before, in 2D and in 3D. The only way left to make a game more "advanced" is to improve graphics. And the way the general public sees it is that if they hear of a thing that's hyped as being the newest and most "advanced", they will buy it. Of course, we at CoN are not the general public. We prize many other things before "advanced" graphics. Most importantly, the quality of the game itself.

For instance, I play Guilty Gear, but my brother won't even go near it, because, and I quote, "It's 2D." I try to tell him that it has the most competitive and innovative fighting engine currently on the market, and he responds with "It's 2D." I tell him his beloved Smash Bros. is also basically 2D, and he starts swearing up a storm. He goes on a tirade about the graphics matrix or something like that, interspersed with cussing. He, of course, has no idea what he's talking about.

Now, I wanted to say something here about the state of society, but I forgot what I was going to say except that it involved Super Mario and neo-conservative Republicans. Blarg.

If the music sucks, the whole game isn't any good for me too. smile.gif

No, seriously, indeed there's not much to improve anymore, except for graphics, obviously.

I think that in 50 years, people will still like something as Tetris (or a clone of it).

Some folks like realistic-as-possible 3D "wargames" or racing games, others like to get involved in a game that's simply enjoyable to play, with user-friendly gameplay, or an RPG with an interesting story, and so on.

If you ask me, it's not only a matter of taste, but maybe also of age, and the will to be up-to-date with everything.

Look at contemporary tv-commercials. It's all so flashy and noisy, it makes me nervous most of the time.

This is why any children I eventually have, will be weaned on the NES and SNES (and *maybe* Smash Brothers Melee as an exception) before I even THINK of letting them touch anything "modern" or what will be modern in the future.

Yes, I still plan to have my NES and SNES when I have kids.
