I don't think there is any other way to get Underwater. Your IDIOTFOOL "friend" is indeed what you make him out to be.

You can sell materia?

Seriously though, it's easy enough to beat the weapon without the materia. HOPEFULLY he hasn't sold Knights of the Round and Mime. Just show him the guide on here and he can beat it within the 20 minutes.

You can try (in a futile manner, most likely) to dig it up at Bone Village, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Yeah, but it isn't worth it. All summons sell for 1 GP and all others sell for the amount of AP they have. A mastered All materia can sell for real high, but at that point in the game gil really doesn't matter anymore.

a materia which you can master quite quickly is the transform materia. I would master this and sell it. Enough money for the rest of the game. Although with all the tactics I know now, I probably wouldn't bother.

Of course, you could always use the power of Gameshark to obtain the materia again, if you have to. I'm pretty sure there are codes for the various materia.

The Gameshark CDX should work for you - it doesn't use the serial port but instead uses a custom memory card. smile.gif

The question was asked, "can I get the Underwater Materia back after it was accidentally sold?" The answer was given "yes, if you use a Gameshark."

Nobody was saying that you have to have a Gameshark to PLAY the game, only that it was the best chance of getting that Materia back. So if you want to be a troll about it, find another thread. There's no reason to bring it to this one.

Hehehe, the ironic thing is when he beats the weapon he'll get the Master Command that has Morph, so he can get the Underwater Materia, but won't need it anymore. XD

Sorry, shouldn't laff.

PS: And gamesharks aren't just about cheating! I use mine to play in the debug room in FF7, get Seifer and Edea, explore the debug room, and unlock the special items only getable with the pocketstation in FF8, and unlock a truck load of never-added characters in Soul Blade...

Not on my main save file o' course. =P It's just a bit of fun you can't do otherwise.

I know Rangers defended my point, and I'm sorry if this makes me sound redundant, but gamer's elitism really grates on my nerves, so I am still compelled to make a statement on it.

I did not say PLAY the game with a Gameshark. I am saying use the Gameshark to "erase" a mistake.

The guy went through all the effort to get the Underwater Materia. Now his friend accidentally sells it and can't get it back; that is not the faut of the original player. Through no planning or action of his own, the original player has been screwed out of the materia he worked hard to obtain. I would be pissed if I had to put a lot of effort into something, and then it got lost for no good reason. It just ain't fair.

So, rather than restart the entire game just to recover one piece of Materia, simply use the Gameshark to retrieve the Materia; it would take all of maybe two minutes to load the shark, input the code, load the game, get the materia, save, restart the game without the codes. Not only is it the best method of fixing the problem, it is also the one with the least amount of headache. Games are supposed to be fun, not frustrating.

Admittedly, its a minor aspect of the game that isn't that big a deal, but again, if you put all the effort into a quest, achieve the item, then get screwed out of the item, then what's the point of doing the quest in the first place?

Guh...

In all honesty, I Gamesharked my way, in some fashion or another, through every Final Fantasy I've played on my first playthroughs, but mostly VII and VIII. I enjoyed them alot more that way, to be honest. But then, I have always been more a fan of the story than the gameplay... To each his own.

Okay wait, I might have missed something but...so your friend sold the underwater materia, right? Did he also sell the Morph materia? Because, since you need morph to get underwater in the first place, you should just be able to go back and get another, I think...honestly, it's been a while since I've played ff7, so forgive me if I'm missing something...

If you can manage to beat Emerald without dying, then you will recieve a master command materia. Then you could get the underwater materia, not that it will do you much good for anything but a collection then.

Morph allows you to turn a certain enemy into a certain item which you can then exchange with the Traveller guy for the Underwater Materia. I believe the enemy is able to be fought whenever you feel like (it has been a while for me too). However, if you've already been given the Underwater materia, I don't know if the Traveller guy will give you another, even if you've sold it. But that's another thing you could test.

thats annoyingly true.. :/

yeah, to clarify, the guy sold my morph materia which is non obtainable after the first time you see it at the temple of the ancients, so I can't get my morph materia.

I might have to look into a gameshark...I had one for my old PS, but it was the analogue plug in one? Ill try to invest in one of these card ones, but I just shelled out for a new copy of FF IX

I'm not sure how easy it is to find the different versions, but my gameshark was a disk-only version, no cards or plugs; well, actually, I think it may have used the standard memory card to save new codes, but that worked out just fine. But certain versions might have different codes.
