I'm kinda confused about this...
Yesterday, I played FFVII up to the point where you have to cross the marsh near the choco farm. (Usually by using a chocobo, but it's possible to sprint across) When I crossed the marsh a scene occured where the party sees a slain Midgar Zolom in a tree, I never paid this any mind before but since CoN now has a FFVII section, I decided to ask this: What's the deal with this? Were there two Midgar Zoloms? The Chocobo rancher (Guy who owns the Inn/Ranch) only mentions one. (That's what confused me) I mean, if there were two, you'd think it'd be mentioned (Or if it was, I missed it somewhere) What're your thought's on this? -------------------- Link: "What is it?" There's probably more than one Midgar Zolom, in my opinion. If you kill it, there will be another one there for you to fight. And about the farmer dude, he probably only saw one beast once, which led him to think that there was only one.

I always assumed there was more than one. It's a thing in ever RPG. It's impossible for animals to go extinct, no matter how many you kill. It's the RPG LAW. You cannot question it, just ignore or accept the fact that there will be flaws in EVERY RPG game.

Well, considering the annoying idiosyncrasy that not only respawns the Midgar Zolom enemy after you kill it but also transports you back to the shore of the lake, I'd say there's more than one. I never actually remembered identifying what that bloody slain creature was, though...I just saw a bloody slain creature and went along with the dialogue. (And the screen perspective wasn't that great.)
Or maybe there were two, but you can't kill one of them (you can only knock it out for a short time), and the other one's dead. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. I didn't know what was impaled on that tree either, but found it to be a decapitated Zolom on my next time around.
On the subject of its recurring, I thought it may be one of those mythical creatures that cannot be truly killed but respawn in the lake somewhere, not unlike the heads of a hydra. Since it's eternally circling the swamp waters, to me, it just solidifies the idea in my mind. They probably added the scene with the slain Midgar Zolom at the last minute and it either didn't occur to them to change the dialogue, or they didn't think it particularly important.
It's just another way of showing you how amazingly powerful Sephiroth is and the fact he doesn't need a chocobo to get across the swamp. Obviously someone pointed out he'd need to get across and you can't really imagine him riding a chocobo as he's a bit crazy and doesn't want to waste the time. -------------------- 'Let that be a lesson to all oppressive vegetable sellers.' |

A good punctuation, if nothing else, to Sephiroth's power and attitude. Like fatman said, he certainly wouldn't bother with the bird, and was never in any danger from even the Zolom. I find it interesting that He chose to pick up the giant serpent and stab it onto a tree, rather than just giving it a Masamune Slice or a blast of magic. He was sadistic about it, allowing the slightly gory scene Cloud and the others come upon later.
In any case, this might also be a victim of the translation job. Sometimes plurals don't always come out perfect. -------------------- |

I think it would be the ultimate thing for an insane mass murderer, like Sephiroth for example, yet still take the time out to catch a Chocobo. Destroy the world, extinguish humanity, catch a Chocobo. Yes, I'm weird...
