Alright, here goes:
Celes is running around solo with a very high mblock amount. During her turn in battle, she issues a single command (read: not involving x-magic or quick), steps forward, and immediately she pulls out a whitish grey shield in a block animation, and THEN she pulls out a dark red shield in another block animation, then she steps back to her spot and waits for another turn. What just happened? |

A Phoenix Down? I know it gets a double block animation, but I've never actually witnessed it.

Defend, she blocked an ice based spell, she blocked a fire based spell.
Edit I missed that immediately part. The two shields are part of the command? This post has been edited by KefkaLives on 6th March 2005 19:02 |

Quote (yunakitty @ 5th March 2005 18:09) I meant with the exact same name. But, Tonepoet did list the correct 3 (Shiva, Bahamut, Odin), he (she?) gets the question. I wouldn't count Indra or Jinn. But they are essentially the same creatures. Just for clarification: Indra and Ramuh are the same summon, but the names are of completely different origin. Indra is a Hindu god of storms and war and son of Vishnu, while Ramuh is an alternate spelling of Rama, an incarnation of Vishnu and star of the heroic epic Ramayana. The summon itself, of an old man summoning lightning bolts, is almost certainly supposed to by Indra, but for some reason Ramuh stuck. Jinn and Ifrit are also interchangeable. Jinn refers to the Persian/Arabic Djinni, which can mean nearly any kind of powerful demon, while Ifrit refers to a form kind of Djinni with wings of fire. For the summon either one works fine, but for some reason Ifrit stuck. I'm fairly certain that the commercial success of FF VI caused those particular translations to survive. EDIT: Oh, and to stay somewhat on topic, I'm pretty sure Djibriel's right. This post has been edited by laszlow on 7th March 2005 05:00 -------------------- |

Quote (yunakitty @ 4th March 2005 21:37) Okay, I hope this will be all right as a question. How many Espers were also Summon Monsters in Final Fantasy 2 (AKA FF4), and what are their names? This is an FF6 trivia game, please dont make questions that require the user to know other FF game info. If you want to do that, there is a general forum for you at the bottom of the main CON forums page. |

Okay, I think this is a nice one:
There are three ways of killing a Pug with an Instant Death attack (iow, an attack that kills without actually doing any damage). The question is this: which attacks am I talking about? Note: The enemy I'm talking about is Pug, a random encounter monster that appears, by its lonesome, in Umaro's cave. NOT Pugs, of which three appear as a monster-in-a-box. Note2: I'm talking, ofcourse, of thee attacks that can actually be triggered in the battle. Also, I don't consider Muddle/Smoke Bomb an Instant Death attack as that basically makes the monster flee. -------------------- |

I'm going with Metamorph, since you LOVE that attack in these trivia topics. If I'm right, it's up for grabs.

You're right; Metamorph can kill a Pug. There's a 12.5 % it actually works and you get nifty Imp equipment from it. However, the question included THREE ways. I'm not going to play Mastermind here, so I'll reveal that's one of the three.
The question is nowhere near unanswered, though, as the nasty one hasn't been mentioned yet ![]() -------------------- |

I'm going to guess Metamorph, Vanish/Doom (or X-Zone), and the nasty one I would guess is Exploder.
If by some wild chance I get it right, the question is up for grabs, because this is a total guess. -------------------- "I will create a monument to nonexistence!!" "The end comes ... beyond chaos." ~ Kefka, Final Fantasy VI |

I don't consider Vanish/Doom - Vanish/whatever as a valid answer for several reasons:
a ) It's not so much an attack as it is a combo. b ) It's a bug (I can defend that statement in a PM if somebody does not agree with that statement) c ) Doom alone does not work, so it *needs* the bug to make it work. Exploder would off him, sure, but only as long as *he* is the one to use it. And since he never does...come on, the little thing is smart enough to use a move like Step Mine as a counter, he's above kamikaze actions ![]() This post has been edited by Djibriel on 8th March 2005 01:05 -------------------- |

Your posts have taught me how little I know about this game.
On that note, I don't have the answer, but I'd like to ask a question that might help other people along: is one of them a rage? If it is, someone more learned in rages might be able to figure it out, but I'll still have no idea. This post has been edited by KefkaLives on 8th March 2005 02:36 |

Can't be Doom, Cleave, or Break, as all of those miss targets immune to instadeath, which Pug is. Joker Doom should work, though. So, unless I'm mistaken, we have:
Metamorph Joker Doom ? (the nasty one) ...Might the use of Rippler be involved? This post has been edited by Corundum on 8th March 2005 02:43 |

Joker Doom Rage: Deep Eye But I looked it up in the rage guide, so if I'm right on all three it's up for grabs. This post has been edited by KefkaLives on 8th March 2005 03:47 |

Haha, that serves me well for asking questions I've answered in my own documents. Still, I increased traffic to the Rage Guide, so it's still good
![]() I explained Metamorph; Joker Doom is an attack that will ALWAYS kill EVERYTHING. As long as the target isn't jumping. The mean part here is that in some battles you can never spin 777 and can't actually *trigger* the attack...but Pug isn't one of those battles and Joker Doom is an answer. Doom and Cyan's Cleave check for Death protection, which Pug has, which will make this miss. The same goes for Snare, True Edge, Atom Edge, Antlion, SabreSoul, Star Prism, you name it. Pug is vulnerable to Petrify, so you'd think either Break, Shoat's Demon Eye, or both. However, both check for Death protection, like Doom, so that's a no-go as well. The answer, indeed, is Dread (I consider KefkaLives' answer as a valid one as you can perform Dread by having somebody go into the Deep Eye Rage). Dread is a silly single-target attack that sets Petrify. It's less accurate and harder to obtain then Break is, so most people tend to ignore it. The fun part about the move is that it *doesn't* check for Death protection, only if the target is immune to Petrify. Ergo: stoned Pug. Corundum: Pug is vulnerable to both Petrify and Zombie, so if you could set either of them with Rippler, that'd be great. However, Petrified character can't perform actions and can't pass on Petrify. Zombies will do nothing but Fight, ever...unless they were Zombified when they were readying themselves for an attack. Since you can't actually *set* Zombie in that battle, only have it, it won't work out either. KefkaLives has it, and he put it up for grabs, so take it, anyone. Actually, I was thinking of having a Condemned character use Rippler, as I'm still not entirely clear as to how Rippler interacts with status immunities. Dread... I'll have to remember that one. |
