Newbie to the board, *waves* so forgive any mistakes, please.
As to FF6, there's a couple of things I've never been able to understand, plotwise... 1) When the Floating Continent breaks off, does the Esper World turn "inside out?" If the Goddesses are inside the Esper World but then in the 'real' world after the catastrophe, that's all I can think of... 2) When Possible spoilers: highlight to view what happens to the Phantom Train? It has such a vital function one would expect it to continue going... Kefka changes the world -------------------- |

I'm sorry to say that neither was really explained nor has anyone ever cared to. It's just a little overlooked fact, I guess.

Welcome to the Caves of Narshe!
![]() Possible spoilers: highlight to view You raise some very good questions. It is my theory that when Kefka moved the Goddesses out of alignment, the Esper world did in effect turn inside out. By examining the statues in the Gathering Cave (this is either right before or right after Ultros attacks), we learn the relationship between the Goddesses, humans, and Espers. Let me recall this the best I can ... the three Goddesses (I'm assuming Doom, Goddess, and Poltergeist) were at war with one another, and humans that got caught in the crossfire gained magical powers and became Espers. After the War of the Magi, the Espers sealed the gate, sealing away the statues. When the sealed gate was opened and the Esper world invaded by Kefka and Gestahl, balance was disrupted. I'm saying that the World of Ruin did not start when the statues were moved out of alignment; it started when the Emperor and his demented general broke into the Esper world. The resulting imbalance caused the world to groan in pain, and the continent with the sealed gate broke off and rose into the sky. Kefka, having found the statues and realizing them as his key to absolute power, moved them out of alignment, creating a chain reaction that destroyed the worlds, both human and Esper. Now many of the Espers found themselves in the human world and were found by monsters such as Doom Gaze (Bahamut), Phunbaba (Fenrir), Wrexsoul (Alexander), and Chadarnook (Starlet). Palidor washed ashore on the secluded island, and Phoenix ended up in the Phoenix Cave. Still others like Terrato ended up in Narshe, and Crusader was sealed away by the eight legendary dragons. Odin remained where he had been for a thousand years, entombed in the ancient castle. Tritoch also remained where it was, and I'm not sure how to account for how it got to Narshe in the first place. Golem and Zoneseek were at the Auction House before the world was destroyed, and Seraphim was in the hands of a citizen of Tzen. I surmise that these Espers were probably taken from the Esper world along with Maduin and the others during the Empire's first purge. As for the Phantom Train, perhaps it is in the dragon forest -- the forest north of the Veldt where you can find Tyranosaur and Brachosaur. We only really see it the one time in the game (besides Cyan's dream). These are my theories. Hiya
![]() Well, we could consider this for the reason why the phantom train is gone: Possible spoilers: highlight to view The entire world reshaped. The most obvious and simplest I suppose. Some towns were destroyed (some more than others obviously), the Serpent Trench comes above the water... Things get pretty messed up. Plus, the Phantom Train isn't the only place to disappear. Returner hideout, all the mountains you visited can't be revisited. -------------------- This is my world: (Got my second chapter up, 3rd Chapter about 80% complete) http://www3.sympatico.ca/daniel876/homepage.html |

Granted, but the Phantom Train isn't just part of the world, it's part of the NEXT. That's an integral function of the world (universe even, unless each planet has its own system for the dead) so it should be relatively unaffected, as long as there are people that need its...unique transportation services.
And thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. This post has been edited by Thanos6 on 7th March 2005 05:58 -------------------- |

I'd say the Phantom Train is still there, there's just no reason to visit it nor the Phantom Forest in the WoR. Like you said: it's the only way to reach the afterlife in that world that we know of, and there's never any mention of a buncha ghosts being stranded in limbo. Besides, most every RPG contains a few locations that can't be revisited later on; it doesn't mean they disappeared.

Wait... I think I might be missing something... can you revisit the Phantom Train again while still in the WoB?
If not, then here is my theory: he isn't acessable in the WoR because he isn't accessible in the WoB. The party ever having been there while still alive was a total fluke, and not something that happens often (as a matter of fact, only once per "lifetime," when you die). If so, then maybe the train derailed. -------------------- |

Maybe the train is normally not visible to humans at all (going with Bahamut's theory here). Like Charon's ferry -- when do you ever see that? When you're dead. Sure, like, one or two people have seen it and still gotten out of Hades alive, but they were Hercules and Orpheus. Legendary heroes, baby. And they'd been travelling through Hades on a specific quest, much like Mr. Thou and friends.
So, to clarify: I say it's there, just no longer accessible or even findable. This post has been edited by L. Cully on 8th March 2005 05:23 -------------------- Some ghost of me might greet my son the day he is delivered. Eternal Sleep, Track 1-1: The Blue Planet |

i like those theories too, but would that mean that
Possible spoilers: highlight to view Sabin Cyan and Shadow were meant to die at that point, but somehow escaped their fate? Poses an interesting idea, since you said that it may be visible when its that time! hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..... If you go through the Phantom Forest again, you go right from train station to train station, without the train being seen. So either you walked along the tracks, or you took a uneventful ride on the train.

Or perhaps, following these theories and tieing in with my previous theory, the Train IS visible to anyone who happens to be around when it's going about its business.
Possible spoilers: highlight to view When Sabin and pals first get on it's full of ghosts, which it coulda picked up from that same station. After you "beat" it, it lets the trio (or duo if Shadow runs off on you before these events) off at the next stop where it, in turn, picks up the deceased Domans and continues on its merry way. That could mean that there are "ghost" stations all over the world, possibly one for each town/city/country/etc., it's just that after that point you no longer run into any instances where the dead are waiting to be transported to the hereafter and thus don't see the Phantom Train again. Makes sense to me, but then I am pretty drowsy at the moment... -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. If anything simply cannot go wrong, it will anyway. Adam, about the Espers, Ramuh states that some Espers secretly live amongside humans, such as Ramuh himself. Not all of the Espers in the World of Ruin have just recently arrived. Like:
Apparently Crusader was sealed by those dragons a helluva long time ago, it's an ancient legend, according to that guy in Albrook. And I think Phoenix was there for a while too, it was mentioned in the WoB. -------------------- //www.rpgmaker.net/ We make games. Period. |

Quick note about Phoenix: as I remember, it's said that the Emperor hid it there. I may be wrong though... (PM me if I am).

trideegurl2, I should clarify my theory: it normally is only visible (available) when you're dead, but that doesn't necessarily mean the group on the Phantom Train were dead or dying. Like Cully said, sometimes heros and the unlucky find themselves in places they are not supposed to be (otherwise, they would have been ghosts like everyone else).
