Usually I would suggest training but in the begining of FF4, that's not always the best idea. Since...
Possible spoilers: highlight to view Once Cecil becomes a Paladin, he resets to lev 1. And the other characters in your team aren't the ones you use at the end of the game. Training is a collosal waste of time until after you become a paladin. For the most part, I'd say run around till you get some decent cash on you. And go back to Baron to grab all the treasures in the castle. The town there has a few chests as well. -------------------- Link: "What is it?" Mario: "It's coin, what the hell does it look like?" Here's one, don't equip anything you want to keep on anybody except Cecil. Why? Because I said so. Real reason why:
Possible spoilers: highlight to view There'll be lots of people coming in and out of your party and when they come back, they don't have their old stuff anymore. The first instance of you losing control of a playable character is right after you beat the Mist Dragon. Unequip Kain so you can sell his stuff and you'll be a little richer and a little happier. Fortuanatly this rule stops after FoSoYa leaves your party and Kain rejoins. This post has been edited by Tonepoet on 26th February 2005 10:24 -------------------- |

In regards to what Strife said:
Possible spoilers: highlight to view Once you become a Paladin, train at Mt Ordeals until you reach about lv 20. It might seem like overkill, but you actually level up pretty fast and you WON'T regret it. And DON'T ever run from battles. This is a game where underlevelling really can really come back and bite you in the butt. -------------------- If something were to happen to me, all the world's women would grieve! - Edgar Nothing beats the music of thousands of voices screaming in unison! - Kefka Lover of all FFs, especially IV, VI, VII, IX, and X. two hints: one is to level up well, otherwise mt.ordeals would be difficult, and two search well every pot, every barrel ,every things it can be something great, and search well for hidden pasages in every place, try walking inside walls...

Depending on the version you're playing, training methods differ.
Snes: Training can be pretty boring (Unless you really, really overpower an enemy and can kill in one hit, you enjoy killing stuff, or you have nothing better to do with your time. Mt. Ordeals is a good place to train on snes for.... Possible spoilers: highlight to view When Tellah has all spells, it's incredibly easy to kill stuff. Plus, I think Palom/Porom (Whichever is the black mage) learns some strong spells relativly quickly) PC (Rom): Zsnes/Snes9x comes with a fast forward button, nuff said. PSX: I don't have any training tips for the PSX version, as I haven't tried it yet. But I'm pretty sure it doesn't have any other strategies than the snes version. I hope this helps. -------------------- Link: "What is it?" Mario: "It's coin, what the hell does it look like?" Link: "Well.... What do you do with it?" Mario: "You buy lives with them." Link: ".... The Chronicles version is hella hard, especially since the strategy guide pretty much tells you to overkill. Level 30 for Cecil at Dark Elf's cave is nearly impossible. And, also in their screenshots it shows Tellah with 1000+ HP.....

Gain about 5 levels between bosses.
Make sure you know how to do the Row/Order thing effectively. Always have the best equipment. It's no big loss if someone leaves with something. The really important items don't come until character exchange is over. Use toad/etc against the furry blobs. Have plenty of Potions and Ethers. There are a few spots where maintaing HP will be especially difficult. In the Item menu in battle, press up and you will see the equipment you have in your hands. Several weapons can cast a spell or do something special when used. Important ones are the first four rods and the Cure Staff (Keep the Cure Staff for about six dungeons after it's available; it saves (but won't replace) Potions and MP). Make sure you have plenty of MP for boss fights. That's all I can think of right now. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

Quote Use toad/etc against the furry blobs. You mean the Jello, Jelly, Tofu, etc? Yeah, those things are highly resistant to physical attacks, (Basically 1 from all) Use magic on'em. Basically any spell will do, depening on char. strength. This post has been edited by Strife543 on 1st March 2005 05:47 -------------------- Link: "What is it?" If you find yourself at a point where your team consists of Cecil, Tellah, Cid, and Yang, have about 800000 Cure2's in your inventory. Or Cure1's, whatever you can afford, just make sure you have a lot of them. Make sure you also have a lot of Lifes/Phoenix Downs, especially if you find yourself in a place where the doors attack you.

Quote especially if you find yourself in a place where the doors attack you You lose Yang, Tellah, and Cid long before you go to the cave with these doors. The places you travel with this team are: 1) Dark Elf's cave: No metal items/Armor/Weap allowed 2) Tower of Zot: High encounter rate of weak enemies (For me anyway) You don't fight those doors until you're after the final crystal Possible spoilers: highlight to view In the underground -------------------- Link: "What is it?" Quote You lose Yang, Tellah, and Cid long before you go to the cave with these doors. I know. I meant, make sure you have Cures aplenty with YTC; and, on a separate note, Lives aplenty when... you get to that place where the doors eat you. Possible spoilers: highlight to view I trained Paladin Cecil alone on Mt. Ordeals once he reached Level 15, and stopped alone training once he reached level 40. It really did not take all that long, and made me smile when I saw Yang, Rosa, and Kain come back. Oh yeah, and first post by the way. Its also good to build up Cecil outside Mt. Ordeal, the forest in the area has some good enemies that produce good experience.

I try to avoid leveling up whenever I can, but in this game sometimes you have to. I was barely able to beat Chroncles with my highest level at 60, with 9 of those levels (for Kain, mind you) in the final dungeon.

I totally agree with the people who say dont train before the paladin time, but make sure you train yang, tellah, and Kain well...
Possible spoilers: highlight to view Since they will be coming back to your team after a while Despite this, training is a very important thing, even if you decide to start as early as just after the valley of Mist. I have heard from many of my friends that this FF4 in the chronicles pack is the *LEGENDARY* "hard mode" that is a harder version of the original ff4. This meant that they had to level up, and they said they had a hard time even around the MAX LEVEL! Train well, but not for a bit after the start. Level up you shall, hehaey May the force be with...i mean, good luck ![]() *legendary meaning well known... Easier and more enjoyable?
My two simple tips: Save regularly and don't get angry if you lose a battle, just try again. And don't read spoilers like: Possible spoilers: highlight to view I told you not to read it!...Anyway, for easier gameplay, check the walkthrough and FAQ on the main site. Perhaps it's just with the SNES version of the game but I noticed something.
I leveled DK Cecil up to about 25 or 30 along with Tellah and baby Rydia (it took forrrrevvverrrr) assuming I'd make it really easy to play the game. Each time I got a character for the first time, they were at one level no matter what. But the second time I got them, they were within one or two levels of the highest leveled guy in the party. EXAMPLE: When I lost Tellah the first time, he was at the lowest level between himself, Rydia and Cecil. When I got him back at Mt. Ordeals, he was one level below Cecil which was a really big jump for him. EXAMPLE 2: In the Giant of Bab-il, I leveled everyone up to the max which was about 30 or 40 levels. When I got Kain back at the end, he was at level 99 with everyone else. By the way, FuSoYa still sucks at level 99 -------------------- "Knowledge is power. Power corrupts. Study hard; be evil." |

sartael: The initial time a member joins, they are at a specific level. If they join again, they will have the same amount of exp Paladin Cecil has gained since their departure.
