Ah, the Thief games.
I can only imagine how happy i'd be.... If my computer didn't suck so much as to not be able to run thief 3! .... Aside from that. Thief one was an excellent start to the series, showing what type of person the main character (Garett) is. The training mission in it was helpful (Plus they threw in a secret room with creator's comments/jokes) The game was difficult, but not to the point of being hated. (By me at least) I haven't beaten the game quite yet (2nd last mission, so close ^-^) but I can't wait to see the end. Thief 2 more than exceeded my expectations. As the first Thief game i ever played (that's right,1 before 2) I was quite surprised by the features of the game. (Multi use arrows, the Blackjack, Slow-Fall potions, lockpicks) What surprised me the most was that I'd nearly beaten the game, but never saw a zombie. Ghosts 9Hammer Haunts) yes, but no zombies. It scared the crap outta me in thief one to be chased around by one of those things. Something that's alwasy confused me about this game is the fact that I don't know what the timeline is. (Don't know when the game is placed) I figured it'd be about medival/slightly after, but then I see the mechanists and their 'creations'.... Go figure o.o Haven't play Thief 3 yet, but i'm looking forward to it. (Xbox or pc, I will play that game!) So, what are your opinions on the games? I thought they were excellent. ^-^ Looking Glass hcan give themselves a pat on the bak for these games. The only Thief game I've played was The Dark Project for PC, and I thought it was excellent. It was a fun blend of stealth and strategy-adventure that I liked better than Metal Gear Solid (which is one of the more overrated games of all time).

I've played all three games. Each one was wonderfully done. The original Thief (Dark Project) really took a spin to the whole first-person shooter ideal, and really drove the point home that you cannot barge through the castles and outright attack all of the guards and make a lot of noise. Really great job for the first game of the franchise.
The Second Thief game, Thief 2: The Metal Age, was a lot like the first, but you can really tell the money they made on the original was well spent, smoothing and refining the game, the computer intelligence, and some interesting new addition to Garett's arsenal. The Third installment, Deadly Shadows, however, was COMPLETELY different. Obviously, this is because the primary company working on the first two went out of business, and a new company stepped in, bought the license, and had to completely re-tool the entire game. The result is an entirely new experience, almost as different from the first two games as they are from regular FPS games. Instead of wielding a sword, now Garett uses a dagger. It makes more sense, with him being a thief after all, and it adds a cool backstab animation (even though I thought the sword was cool). Plus, the factions between the Hammerites, the city watch, the Keepers, and the Pagans really take shape, and it's a lot of fun to ally with some of them, and incite big group fights between the factions by bringing them near each other. I also like the fact that it's a lot less linear, giving you the opportunity to explore the vast city (also new) that is the setting of the game. In more detail, the various "missions" that controlled the first two games don't have to be done immediately in sequence, and instead can be done at any time while giving Garett the freedom to explore the city, adding an RPG element to it. In summary, if you pick up Thief III, be prepared for an almost entirely different experience from the first two. But you can still expect a high level of enjoyment, since I would argue that it's the best of the series. This post has been edited by TheEvilEye on 26th February 2005 06:34 |
