I should be a gumshoe. =p

---------------------
  • In the accessories list, under Ribbon, it can also be found in Gaea's Cliff and that Hojo's final form can be morphed into a ribbon.
  • It's possible to get a Bolt Ring from the sleeping man who gives out Mythril.
  • There's no list of Key Items (I believe).
  • The weapon information on the Flayer is missing.
  • On the 'Other Characters' page, information on Dyne is missing. Seems like that should be in there. =p
That's all I can find at the moment.

Thanks for the feedback.
  • I've added Gaea's Cliff as a Ribbon location. I haven't found a source that agrees about morphing Hojo yet; any ideas? (Don't have time to try it myself just now smile.gif )
  • Added a location description, but it's probably not very helpful unless I link it up with the directions for actually reaching the guy.
  • We decided this wasn't too important since they're all just plot-event-related and not really anything you can talk about more than you can describe their function in a relevant part of the walkthrough. Key to Sector 5 is an exception, but hey. We can add a list if there's demand.
  • Added.
  • Works for me.

Alright, a couple more things:
  • For the Guard Scorpion boss (Walkthrough - Section 1.1), the attack "Tail Laser" is forgotten and the attack described as "Rifle Tail" should just be "Rifle".
  • In the Walkthrough, Mt. Nibel is listed as 1.19, in between Kalm (1.18) and Cloud's Past (1.20).
  • Jenova*BIRTH also casts Stop (or maybe magic isn't included in the attack list?).
  • In Section 1.29, it says the guy in the cave near the lake is a merchant. He's not a merchant, but a construction worker by the looks of his uniform. Yeah, it's irrelevant, but someone might think you can buy things down there...or something.
  • Another enemy you can fight in the Gongaga Area (outside) is the Beachplug, which is found on the beach. You can get the Big Guard enemy skill from it through manipulation.
  • In section 2.4, it says you can get the enemy skill "Dragon Force" from the Blue Dragon enemy. While the Blue Dragon does in fact have the skill, it cannot be manipulated to have it learned on the materia.
  • In Section 2.13, it says if you miss the Huge Materia, you can dig it up again in Bone Village. Since you asked for proof in another thread, Tiddles, I wondered if that should be in there. Your call.
  • When you fight Hojo, isn't his second form called Helletic Hojo?
  • Proud Clod (2.16) also has an attack called "Knee Fire".

With that one, it is the Mt. Nibel from Cloud's story in Kalm. His whole flashback spans three parts in the walkthrough: Starting the tale, and through Nibelheim (pre-Mt. Nibel) is in chapter 18, the trek through Mt. Nibel with Tifa is in chapter 19, and everything beyond that is in 20.

I'm going to suggest we rename Kalm, Mt. Nibel and Cloud's Past to Cloud's Past parts 1-3 to avoid any confusion.

Merchant/construction worker... well, let's consider it if anyone happens to be editing the chapter. I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

The reference to digging up the Huge Materia should go unless there's some proof otherwise.

(By the way, from my limited research the other night, trying to gather several semi-reliable sources into a cohesive whole: I believe you can probably dig up Bahamut ZERO there if you miss the last Huge Materia, which means you don't need that last Huge Materia. But it's still not the same as getting the Huge Materia itself, and it doesn't help with the other three)

"Helletic" is one of the things that looked so hideous I just felt compelled to fix it, for the sake of my sanity. See also Tough Ring (though that was fixed in the PC version anyway). I know I shouldn't really, but... "helletic". Man. Gives me a headache.

Everything else should certainly be fixed. Thanks. smile.gif

I understand your disgust with the obvious misspellings in the game, but I sort of don't like your arbitrary "improvements" added on. I remember playing that game for the first time in sixth grade with two other friends (it was a joint effort, we spent the night at David's house for five straight nights, including two schoolnights, to finish it) and laughing at the "toof" ring (which if I remember correctly was one of the better accessories in the game). It was part of the experience, and changing it from the translation in your otherwise exceptional guide is disappointing.

But the Tough Ring was fixed in the PC version anyway. Helletic is the only one that's an arbitrary fix (and that's after I'd been almost sure it had been fixed in the PC version; apparently not, but it was already referenced as Heretic internally in a few places by then anyway.)

I might add the Helletic Hojo was never an issue for me, since I had only seen our database and the french game, where he is called Hérétique Hojo (direct translation, but one that is actually good).

The evidence seems to point to some Engrishing by an incompetent translator.

"Heretic? Well it's Japanese so that should be an l... or maybe a double l..."

By the way, where in-game does it say Johnny grew up in Nibelheim? His parents live in Sector 7, and to think that his parents went with him after he tried to join SOLDIER is kind of silly. Maybe I missed something.

Some of the NPCs that were forgotten were:

Choco Bill
Choco Billy
Chole
Joe (and Teioh)

It would be understandable to leave these guys out, but if someone as insignificant as Yamski is included, they might apply. Your call.

- I have won 80 GP in the Wonder Catcher game before. It's useless to point it out with any legitimate corroboration, but it's worth a mention, I guess.

Insignificant Things

- Turks: Reno (3/Gelnika) has the name of his Electroprod skill mispelled.
- Gorky is called "Gorkii", which may be a translation error corrected by someone.
- Cross-Slash should be "Cross-slash"
- On the Gold Saucer guide, Caldron should be "Cauldron".
- The 8-eye enemy can also absorb MP, although the attack isn't named.

Hopefully I'm not coming off as nitpicky here. I'm just trying to be thorough. smile.gif

When you see Johnny in Costa Del Sol, he says something to the extent of "Don't you remember me? I'm your childhood friend!" and other times when you see him, he clearly grew up with you and Tifa. He's also the one who sends Tifa letters from Midgar, isn't he? I don't have easy access to that letter that you read in her room, but I'm fairly certain I saw that in the game while I was replaying for the walkthrough.

If you have proof against it, by all means, let me know.

Emerald is a powerful opponent, but can be beaten with some good preparation. In fact, all you need to do is setup the mimic loop, and hope that Emerald doesn't disrupt it. It would be wise to equip the Underwater materia, otherwise you will have to beat Emerald within a 30 minute deadline (amazing that all these characters can hold their breath for that long, especially when you consider that some of them smoke).

The limit is 20 minutes, not 30 minutes.

EDIT: It's in the "Beating the Weapons" seciton under "Emerald Weapon"

You know, I don't know how you guys feel about the ol' Faqs, but you could just swing by GameFaqs and ask the folks there.

This is true, and Kao Megura's FF 7 FAQ may be the best there is, but there is also something to be said for compiling your own database and be an original source rather than a secondary, so to speak.

I have always been very impressed by CoN's dedication to using firsthand information, and I think they would lose credibility if they cited a popular FAQ as one of their sources.

We'd still need irrefutable evidence.

As for your 80 GP winnings, Shotgunnova, it's up to R51 or Tiddles if they decide that's good enough reason to put that in. But until then, I guess it just has to stay where it is... I confirmed all those prizes myself with over 300 playthroughs (like I said in my guide), so it was just starting to look like it just wasn't gonna happen. :-/

Not that it couldn't, I just never got a hit myself.

The chances of getting 80 GP is pretty slim. Set aside a few hours and just play Wonder Catcher and see if you can get it -- it's entirely possible.

I pity any individual resigned to playing Wonder Catcher for a few hours and respect anyone that can do it without turning off the Gold Saucer's music.

Can I take that honor then? tongue.gif

I played that game for about three, four... can't even remember how many hours straight just to get 308 tries (with the music on...). Again, if anyone else has the time and can get a screenshot or something to corroborate sgn, we can edit it into the guide, or if R51 thinks your opinion's good enough, he can go ahead and edit it in himself right now.

I just browsed the character pages, and I think there's a mistake on Red XIII's. I could of sworn he tells Bugenhagen in the first Cosmo Canyon trip that he's 48, not 45....
