I just got waxed in perhaps the toughest (unfairly so) random battle I've ever seen in the game, it was the toughest battle I've seen in the game actually. It was right after beating
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
Dycedarg and Adramelk
at Bariaus Hill I think, the one with the tall plateau in the middle with low passages on the sides.

It consisted of one of each of the 3 Behemoth types, one of each of the 3 dragon types, a Hydra, a Hydura, and just for good measure, a yellow chocobo (?) That's 9 enemies to my 5 good-guys, although they did throw in a Guest Hydra for me, something that has never happened before to me except the main-storyline battles. He got killed before he could act though.

And to top it off, I used my "B" team in order to get them some JP for future storyline battles. Even with Orlandu and my "A" team generics, it would have been really really hard. All the monsters had over 550 HP and were fast, had counterattacks and most had ranged attacks dealing 300-400 damage a pop.

So, any other good stories of misery out there?

I've seen that one, and yes, it's at Bariaus Hill. That was how I was able to get a Setiemson before the Deep Dungeon smile.gif. I'm pretty sure you get a King Behemoth and a Red Dragon to accompany you as guests though, so that alleviates some of the pain. Another weird one that I've done (that was a good deal easier) was twelve (yes, twelve) male monks at once at Grog Hill. Also, I found one where there's a level 50 Knight (when my Ramza is around 40 or so) that you temporarily team up with against a level 50 Sacred, I think in Bed Desert, but nothing really special happened.

I only got the Hydra guest, and he pretty much didn't add to the effort. The 12 [12!!!] monks fight sounds interesting though. I wish they had included a battle generator where you could create your own battles to test yourself, or create mega-battles with all 16 of your characters vs. 16 or more enemies on a huge map. Woulda been sweet.

In Yuguo Woods, I have encountered approximately 10 samuris with murasame and all the good attacks. This was right after beating Elmdor, and I hadn't saved.

I used my bad people because I wanted to level them up...

I lost... ohmy.gif

I've had that Barius Hill one, the ninja one at... uh, can't remember the name, where you get Boco, that place. One of the first times I played at Mandalia Plains, I had a chocobo as a guest after returning from Thieves Hideout.

I hate fighting those battles with just one enemy. Really tough...

My favorite always was getting caught with my pants down in Araguay Woods fighting a pack of ninjas with no Catch ability. Try as I might, that is always a tough (and usually suicidal) battle.

Yeah, I love those battles. My favorite has to be the Samurais at Yuguo Woods. Although, the other day. I had my main party on propositions and started training my back-ups when I ran into the 3 hydra, 3 behemoth, and 3 chocobo type battle.........not cool! I made it out with one party member left, Rafa (I couldn't believe Rafa survived, but she had a streaky battle)

The red chocobos are really hard to beat because they always do about the same amount of damage to your characters.

Weird, in Zeklaus Desert I had a guest Level 93 Knight on my team against one Bull Demon, but they just combatted amongst themselves. I didnt even get to hit the Bull Demon because the Knight murdered him. Go figure.

Yeah I fight the Bariaus Hill one yesterday. Got iced pretty quickly...hadn't saved in about an hour either. The 12 monks at Grog Hill(?) was a good one. I won that one mainly because of a dancer with nameless dance...It was cool.

Hahaha. Yeah...there are two waterfalls I hang out at fhen looking for uber battles. I forget the other one. =P I thin* the random uber battles are one of the reasons I 'like' FFT. There are battles around the word far harder than the ones in the Deep Dungeon.

Oh! Al hough there was this one time in the Deep Dungeon when I was facing a group of level 99(ish) ninja and one of them throw a bloody masamune at me! By share luck my character had catch. I couldn't believe it, I keep meaning to make a team of characters with catch and repeating that stage until i find them again and see what I can get...

But I digress.

I fought the Grog Hill Monks once, using only Agrias and Mustadio. I took down about five of them before they beat me to death with their fists. They Earth Slashed a lot too. That didn't help.

I have fought the dragon/hydra battle at END several times... infact, I fought them more often then the "normal" group which is supposed to be a bunch of porkies and some humans.

Otherwise, I've been spared the other super battles, but there's plenty of times I go to one of the waterfall levels and get chocoboed to death.

In one (or two?) playhtroughs I fought and died against 12 Monks while leveling up my lower-level characters. Recently, though, haven't come across any weird ones.

The battle you're thinking of is Finath River, but you don't have Orlandu at that point. That battle's really important if you want a bunch of Chantages early on, because there's a 50% chance that one of the six chocbos is a Uribo.

Yeah, yesterday I had one. o.o (Surprised 1 won that won 2 to)

I made a team of 5 generics, and was training. Three were out doing a job, and I was on my way to get'em and got into a fight at Zeklaus Desert.

The opposing team was...
- 1 Blue Dragon
- 1 Green Dragon
- 3 Minitauros

Against my...
- Lev. 41 Ramza (Beginner Lancer, Mastered Monk, Squire, Knight, Chemist)
- Lev. 43 Rico (Near - Mastered Oracle, Master Squire, Knight, Monk)
.... That was it.
(Note: I had just started Chap. 4)

Strangly enough the battle went in my favor, I was able to petrify both the Green Dragon (53%) and 1 Minitaurous (53%)

Ramza Jumped and killed the Blue Dragon in 3 attacks, but suffered 2 hits from ice breath (Thank GOD for HP restore)

I was able to confuse 1 of the Minitaurous with Rico, but he was quickly killed by the other. Then the confused 1 slew the other.

Basically I had Ramza vs a Minitarous at full Hp (350 - 400 hp)

I switched between jumping and attacking. and of course, it kept attacking. I reached about 12 Hp, and Hp restore didn't kick in, (Man, was I pissed off)

Luckily, I slew the damn thing in the next turn.

(You can image how happy I was.)

I must have returned there later when I had Orlandu, then, because old pajama-feet was definitely with me.

Man, once you reach lev 35+ all the strong monsters suddenly pop up.

Just today I ran into two more hellish enemy parties:

A pack of 4 Behemoths, Yellow Chocobo (Damn Choco Cure) and a Red Chocobo - Dogula (Sp?) pass

And 6 Red Chocobos - Finath River (Not my first time here)

I managed to beat the red chocobos (Ninja's throw has amazing range) but the Behemoths ganged up on my chars and killed'em one by one. (My oracles skills just would not hit them! And the thieves 'Steal Heart' only worked once before she died)

Training just keeps getting harder and harder....

When training, I find it handy to have one "safe" character accompany my other characters that I'm leveling up/learning skills. Someone who has mastered everything already and/or is a powerhouse, i.e. a mastered Ramza or Orlandu. If my guys get in trouble with, say, a pack of chocobos and behemoths, I just unleash the powerhouse and let him walk all over them. Alternatively, I also always have somebody that can cast Don't Move/Paralyze. Saved my digitized sprite arse more times than once. Unless of course you run into a pack of ninjas wearing thief hats...

Interesting theory, but sadly, won't work for me.

I don't have Orlandu yet, and don't plan on using him at all. (Making an all Generic/Ramza team)

Ramza has not mastered everything yet, he trains alongside the others. The real trouble is when my units do the dispatch missions from the bars. (Save for the areas where there are two safe zones next to each other, EG: Igros and Fort. Zeakden, then my char just paces bak and forth till the jobs done) Then my remaining party members get slautered by the Behemoths/Minitaurous/Red. Chocos/Whatever other nasty surprises the game decides to throw at me o.o

As good of an idea as that is, it won't work for me this time around. Thanks though ^-^

New here, so not sure if play mechanics need spoiler tags or not. Couldn't hurt, I suppose...

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
The Ninja's Throw range is actually equal to his/her movement range. A character with a natural movement range of 4, with Move+3 and Battle Boots/Red Shoes/Germinas Boots will have a Throw range of 8.

I've never gotten 12+ humans in a battle outside of Deep Dungeon, but those monster battles have slaughtered me more than once. I learned early to save often...
