well i picked tifa. she was my strongest character physically at the end of the game. there are also a few other things i like about her, but i'm not gonna say.

I always had an affinity for Yuffie, don't ask me why. Her whole persona was cheery and wily at the same time, and her limit breaks were impressive for the most part (two melee attacks!).
Red XIII would get the close runner-up award. -------------------- It's gonna be a glorious day I feel my luck can change |

I have to say Cid. His plotline was excellent (as it was for all the characters), his character theme was nice, he uses a badass spear, and he's an angry old man (which for some reason always tend to be among my favorite characters, Cid, Strago, Tellah, Haschel, Drachma, you get the idea)

Although Yuffie was a close second, I would have to go with Vincent. Why, you ask? It all dates back to when I was young and inexperienced (quite some time ago)... I had just done the side quest where you find

Well, after I used it, something inside just made me like Vincent beyond all the other characters. It's strange, but that's why I like him: He's got a really, really cool limit break. ![]() By the way, laszlow. This may seem off topic, but who is Drachma? My favorite character is Red XIII. He had good physical and magic power, so he was my "red mage" of sorts, plus he had some of the coolest and useful limit breaks in the game second only to Cloud, Vincent, and Cid among others. His back story, personality, and character role in general are the main reasons why Red is my fave. I even love his theme music. Cloud is a close runner-up.

Drat, I as planning on making this topic... Meh, oh well.
I voted Cait Sith, why you ask? Because I'm probably one of the few people here who finds likes his char. Plus, he had 0 votes so far! Who's my favorite character?
The guy without an identity, the damsel who screwed up the previous guy's identity even worse, a foul-mouthed chain-smoker who is with you because of a lack of govt funding, Mr T, the damsel who didn't do anything, the semi-respectable lion-wolf-thing who was told his father was a coward all his life for no reason, the spy, the demon without an origin, or the WWII allegory? Well, I'm not going to vote yet, since I haven't seen all the characters in plot and in battle yet, but for now I'll pitch in my opinion:
Out of Cloud, Tifa, Barret, Aeris, Red XIII, and Cait Sith, my favorite is Barret Wallace. No, not because of the stereotypicalness that some people complain about, not because he's a terrorist leader, not because he curses the #$%^ out of things, but partly because I'm very sympathetic to his character given all the unnecessary misfortunes and injustices that he's had to deal with throughout his life, and partly because he dares to put up a fight against some entity as massively powerful as Shinra, and he places his dares pretty much only on the hope that he can right the innumerable wrongs of this god-like power. Edit: voted for Barret anyways. Though I favor the profane chain-smoker. Oh, and GMH, I imagine you're somewhere around the Golden Saucer visit by now (maybe soon afterwards?) if you've gotten deep in to Barret's storyline, so you'd best be on the lookout for the WWII allegory and the demon with a sleep disorder. -------------------- |

I'm the first person to vote for Barret, second to voice support for him.
Barret, like everyone else in the game, has his past troubles and whatnot, though I DO like his story the most. However, what I find more refreshing is his "cut the crap and let's just shoot them" attitude. While sometimes that's not the smartest thing to do in some circumstances, Barrett always walks forward towards the future. Heck... Possible spoilers: highlight to view ...even in Corel, he went off alone from the party and was trying to find Dyne. It seemed like he was trying to quickly resolve the matter without getting the party involved. Most people would mope around until the rest of the party kicked them in the ass and told them to get moving and confront the problem. I would have voted for Zack, hands down, if he was there. Cait Sith. Though he wasn't the deepest character, he was quite funny and had some touching moments. I also feel he did alot to make Shin-Ra more realistic, showing that not everyone associated with them was a power-hungry evil guy.

CLOUD!
He's probably the coolest of FF's leading blokes. The rest of them (besides, maybe Locke of FFVI) are weenies, Zidane the monkey-tailed Locke clone. And what's-his-name from FFX can be annoying. Cloud is enigmatic, indifferent (at first) and has a much groovier background than anyone else. I picked Red XIII. I liked how they set you up to thinking he was a mindless beast when you first encounter him, and then all of a sudden, you realize he's an inteligent being. Plus he just looked awsome.

My favorite is Tifa, with Vincent as a close second. Though I feel that Final Fantasy VII's main weakness was an unspectacular cast, these two were both very well-done. Tifa's cheerful outlook and relatively normal behavior distanced her from the collectively boring angst-machine that formed the core of the party. Meanwhile, Vincent's story was neither overbearing or unnecessarily complex, but intelligent and surprisingly poignant.

Vincent. Awesomeness lurking beneath an even more awesome exterior, plus an incredible back story to boot. Oh yeah. The first time through I neglected to find him as I could not do the safe, but once i figured the safe out It was easy, and my second playthrough saw me meeting a character which would never leave my party. Fox also makes the point that he turns into the final boss of FF1, which is also friggin badass and a cool easteregg to boot.
