The question is a simple one, which was harder to defeat, Ruby or Emerald WEAPON?
I myself, cannot answer yet, as I haven't beaten either yet ![]() -------------------- Link: "What is it?" Mario: "It's coin, what the hell does it look like?" Link: "Well.... What do you do with it?" Mario: "You buy lives with them." Link: ".... Isn't that slavery?" ~Mario/Link crossover comic~ |

I personally found Emerald WEAPON to be harder, simply because you can't mess around in that battle like you can with Ruby. Here are some reasons why:
1: Unlike Ruby, you can't stop Emerald. 2: Aire Tam Storm. 9999 unblockable, undodgable damage isn't nice. Period. 3: His lasers can drain off your mp very quickly if you don't kill them, effectively stopping a Knights of the Round caster easily. The thing that really makes him hard is the preparation involved before fighting him. Knights of the Round and Mime are really all you need to beat him (well, that and Final Attack + Phoenix), but those take an extremely long time to get. Ruby had Whirlsand, and Ultima, but those were very easy to avoid. Come into the battle with two characters dead, revive them, and then stop him and you've already taken care of both those problems (along with pretty much any chance of losing). -------------------- ~ Aurora, exhale bloody air! Emerald. Hands down. Being materia crippled hurts real bad, and some of those moves hes got sting like a bitch.

I'm going to have to go with Ruby here. I beat Ruby once, and that was out of sheer luck. WHen I beat him, I didn't think of killing two characters and then reviving them to avoid the whirlsands attacks, nor was I aware of the Hades trick. Therefore, my battle was very long and tedious.
As for Emerald, you simply have to be selective in your Materia choices. Why? Quote 2: Aire Tam Storm. 9999 unblockable, undodgable damage isn't nice. Period. That's why. ATS does 1111 damage per materia you have equipped. If you have 16 materiae equipped, you are in some serious trouble, yes. However, if you have 4 materia equipped (just for kicks, we'll say KOTR, mime, and restore-all, the necessities), you won't be in nearly as much danger. Simple. ![]() -------------------- Is PJ |

Emerald. I never beat Emerald, but Ruby was easy. W-summon KOTR and Hades. wait, mime, repeat.

Emerald is definitely the more difficult of the two. I took down the Ruby Weapon with Cloud alone (I came in with my limit with the others dead and said, "hey, i wonder") Needless to say I gave him a little Hades and then Omnislash, Mime.
Emerald had Aire Tam Storm and so I needed my Final Attack--Pheonix combo. |

Emerald. A few things (like Aire Tam Storm) stand out in my mind about it, and I was shaking like crazy throughout.

I haven't beaten either and my excuse is that I just got it recently so I haven't got much experience on it right now, but I'll get to it.

I'm not sure how a boss could be harder the Emerald WEAPON, its definitely the hardest boss in VII, and among the hardest in any RPG I've played. Getting rid of the timer helped, but it was still a bitch of a fight. I didn't think Ruby WEAPON was particularly difficult.
The fact that you see Emerald moving underwater was a shock the first time since I'm hydrophobic and scared of things underwater. -------------------- For Belle - Everything I Do GO GO GOBLIN PUNCH! |

Emerald, no question. The first time I beat him it literally took all night. I began the fight at midnight and finished him off at 4:00. That was just one battle.
My tactic for beating him was fairly simple. Yuffie and Cloud both just had "Deathblow" materia, Red X just had "W-Item". So Aire Tam only cost each one of them 1111. Cloud and Yuffie deathblow at will. And using the "w-item cheat" and getting unlimited Megalixers, Red would give a Megalixer every turn, despite whether I needed it or not. Repeat the cycle over and over again. -------------------- "When I turn the page The corner bends into the perfect dog ear As if the words knew I'd need them again But at the time, I didn't see it." ~"This Ain't a Surfin' Movie" - Minus the Bear |

Wow... Emerald??? What's so hard at him?
Air Tam Storm: Just equip no materia you don't need any Emerald beam: Wish for it, great damage so it will fill you almost all your Limit gauge and still can't kill you Emerald Shoot: Just have enough HP to survive a 6000 damage attack... The Rays: They almost got no HP so you can get rid of them extremely fast A LITTLE TRICK: Dragon force when used 2 times on an ally will have this effect: 0,75% Physical damage taken (doesn't work against Air Tam Storm of course) 47,5% Magical damage taken (doesn't work against spells that aren't affected by spirit) You can As well use this little combo: Double Quadra Gravity --> Casting 8 Demi spells per round taking 9999 Hp each time exept if Emerald is getting low on his 800k HP. OR if you want to be guarateed of winning: Equip 2 Materias only one being HP Plus to have 9999 HP and the other one can be anything you like as long as it doesn't decrease your HP under 9999 or HP<->MP Switch Just Wait For Air Tam Storm, try to have as low evade as possible and always heal yourself. If he uses Air Tam Storm, well 9999 - 2222 = 7777 so guess what's next? 7777x64 damage (497728). I think you can do it more then once per battle. Ruby: 255 Spirit, 255 Vitality, 255 Speed Much harder to beat maily because his tectacles can attack any of your party member taking out 95% of his current HP, then if you aren't fast enough to heal, Ruby can cast any attack on you, Game Over A LITTLE TRICK: Just use dazers wich have 100% chance to stop ruby and so he doesn't couterattack you. Just to say... Using KOTR is the much noobish thing you can ever do to beat Emerald and/or Ruby. I vanquished them with no Materia. I managed to beat Emerald without too much difficulty around level 75-80ish, but at those same levels Ruby was very difficult and required several playthroughs. After I survived and recovered from the Ruby 2 men down trick I just spammed KOTR so much that I actually took a break to make and eat lunch. Similar stuff with Emerald, but he has more HP and doesn't require a prayer to survive the first minute of battle.

Ruby was harder for me.
I never really knew why everyone thought Emerald was so hard. Of course, I've never, ever been hit by Air Tam Storm. More correctly, I've never actually seen it been cast. I always have everyone on Fury, had a good supply of Elixers and Mega Elixers as well as 99 X-Potions. I spammed Omnislash, Knights of the Round, and Ultima whenever I could, along with everyone else's Limit Breaks. Maybe I'm lucky, but I think I was hitting him way too hard and way too fast for him to care about casting it. Ruby, on the other hand, had a tendency to weaken my party then blast them into oblivion before I could heal them. I tried the strategy of "just send Cloud in by himself" and got worked in under 5 rounds. |

Ruby, plain & simple. Ruby was just ery hard and I had 2 beat him at Level 99 with a KOTR Rush and my Item glitch with 99 Megalixers. It seemed to be the only way.

You can stop Ruby. You can't stop Emerald. Hence, Emerald is harder.
Any stronger attacks, defences or tactics from Ruby are rendered moot by this bizarre status vulnerability. |

I have broken my record!
I managed to beat Emerald in 4:10 wich means at 15:50 ![]() That is with some materias, I think I can beat it without any Materia but I will have to do some test with what I discovered with "All lucky 7". Really, they're both extremely difficult, but If i had to put a label on either to determine which is harder I guess I would go with Emerald. If you properly prepare you can beat Ruby with one person, preferably Cloud. Emerald is just an asshole in the sense that he can take your MP, but I've beaten him too. If it weren't for the W-Item glitch though, I probably wouldn't of been able to.

i had to play through seven times before i could beat either and then i beat both one after the other, emerald first i think. which is harder i'm not sure. but man they're tough. i think emerald annoyed me a lot more because i always thought i could be it and then it would crush me somehow out of nowhere
the crazy thing is if you beat ruby you get a gold chocobo right? but you need one to beat it in the first place really to get knights of the round. so it's a bit silly. -------------------- 'Let that be a lesson to all oppressive vegetable sellers.' |

Emerald, just because of his ridiculous HP...When I finally beat him, it took more than you'll ever believe...seriously. I know his HP's supposed to be 1 million, but with what it took for me to beat him, I estimated it somewhere around 2 million or more. It took me: (I'm sure of the KotR numbers, the rest are from memory. I used to have it all written down, but have since lost the paper)
17 KotR doing 6-7 thou each 7-8 Bahamut Zeroes 5-6 NeoBahamuts and 3 Phoenixes I was using a tally sheet as I fought him, and I kid you not, 17 KotR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's over 1.5 million on its own!!! I don't know if the game was glitchy and gave Emerald more HP than he should've had, but I swear to you that it took that much to kill him. -------------------- </technology> |

I beat both by just hitting O once.
I killed off all but Cloud, and used this setup: Counter>Mime KotR>HP Absorb Lots of HP and MP Plus Ribbon (equip) W-Summon NOTE: The above must be MASTERED. With this, simply summon KotR ONCE and then Cloud will contunue to pummel the Weapons with no stopping. Its friggin awesome. Emerald's main attack can be halved with Mighty Guard, so I found Ruby harder. Mainly because with its arms behind you, you have two targets with Ruby even when multi-targeting.

I believe i beat ruby, being over 4 or 5 years since ive seen the game since my friend sold it without my consent, but emerald i remember being considerably harder. The Aire Tam Storm beat me in the first few times i attacked (like after maybe 2 hits) since i didnt know about the materia-multiplier facter.
Correct me if im wrong, but wasnt there a time limit you had to beat emerald in just like you had to do with Odin in FF8? -------------------- <DrkMagimaster282> MWAHAHA. yes there's a time limit if you don't have the underwater materia to breath underwater! which isn't easy to get hold of if you don't know how. you have like ten minutes... actually is it possible to beat emerald in ten minutes? hmm. I linked phoenix with last attack materia, so when i was killed, da da! back to life! not a full proof plan but it worked anyhow.
I was crazy enough to have my party all having tons of materia equipped. Thus Aire Tam Storm is very scary indeed. -------------------- 'Let that be a lesson to all oppressive vegetable sellers.' |
