Just today I had an article I wrote put up on a site for people to read. So far I've gotten feedback, postive and negative naturally, and some people have even said that it had an effect on them in more way than one. Basically, this made my Saturday.
To me, this seems like the kind of thing that would belong on a resume. I can't quite come up with the words to describe why, ironically enough. Basically it shows that I have the skill to get my work out there and for the public to read. However, the article related to the decline of a video game. As such, it gives me the feeling that some employers may not see it as something to be very proud of. Just because it's a game and all. Anyone out there have a similar experience who can prehaps enlighten me on whether or not it should be put on my resume. Thanks in advance for any input. -------------------- This is my world: (Got my second chapter up, 3rd Chapter about 80% complete) http://www3.sympatico.ca/daniel876/homepage.html |

I think it depends on what kind of job you're applying for. If you're applying for a writing position somewhere then I might include it as a sample of your writing or if you're applying to write for a game magazine or work in a game store then it would be fine. Any other job, I don't think it would make sense to put it on there because it's not a special skill needed for the job.

I agree with Elena1999, but I would add that, since web-postings are easier to accomplish than 'publication,' I would use it as a quick sidenote alongside other similar accomplishments. If you have none of those than I would not include it so you don't look like you think it's more important than it is. That's my opinion.

Seconded. Having a cult following on the internet is about as worthless as comes to nothing.
People are looking for real-life skills that relate to the job you're applying for. As a rule of thumb, your resumé should be tailored to the job you're applying for: nobody cares about your essay on furries and their place on the internet if you're applying for a job in a retail store. Likewise, while having a high-tech game AI demo might be impressive, your employer won't care if you're applying for a job as a dentist. -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |
