Of course! He is able to use every special swordskill that you cannot get otherwise and can really become good if you continue to train him.
Maybe give him Attack UP ![]() -------------------- "There is not a liberal America and a conservative America - there is the United States of America. There is not a black America and a white America and latino America and asian America - there's the United States of America." ~Barack Obama |

Aside from the Sword Skills, I like his sword itself. Excalibur's haste properties are particularly useful.

In terms of sheer power, I would have to say yes. But he always seems to make the game way to easy for me, so I don't use'em anymore.
So no, in my opinion he's not the 'best' character, merely the strongest. -------------------- Link: "What is it?" Mario: "It's coin, what the hell does it look like?" Link: "Well.... I would say No. For the simple fact that Orlandu is male. Females can equip the ribbon and chantage. Agrias equipping these will be quite nearly as effective.

I say second best, behind Reis. With a natural magic and speed boosters like hers, it is clear that she is the game's MVP if you level up all of your characters in to the 70s and beyond.
EDIT: Oh, and Kane, a Chantage and a Ribbon won't make Agrias "nearly as effective." Her terrible speed and movement seriously hinder her, and you're effectively denying her +3 to her power stat by forgoing a Bracer for the Chantage. As a person who just played to beat the game, and didn't stat max or anything, I'd say yes he was. Apparently, other characters have the potential to be better, but I don't remember anyone being more useful immediatly after you pick them up.

I'd say he is one of the best--if not the best--characters in the game, but even Orlandu can bite the dust when he's not properly equipped or has incorrectly allocated abilities. A simple Weapon Break can bring him down from contention, after all.

Why use a ribbon when you could use a thief hat and reflect mail. Stops pretty much every spell, and prevents don't move and don't act with +2 speed to boot. Combined with blade grasp or weapon guard since Excalibur has a 35% evasion (I believe), and the guy can't be touched! Not to mention he has a lot of Hp has a holy swordsman.
Edit: Plus, since he is male, he gains the +3 move from bard unlike females who have to settle with +2. Also, his attacks happen the turn of, no charge up time at all. I can't recall a time when his swordskills weren't doing well over 500 damage which was always more than enough to put an enemy to critical or slain. It takes a javelin II or other legendary weapon to compare strength with him. AND night sword effectively allows him to heal himself while taking an enemy out in the process. I'm assuming that by "best", the author of this thread meant "strongest".
Arguments have been made for Agrias and Reis. I disagree with both. Agrias, while female, lacks the speed and movement range to be elite in the game. She is always one of my final party members, don't get me wrong.... but better than T.G. Cid? Hardly. Reis, while having excellent speed, has one of the worst movements in the game. Her inherints are wonderful, and her stats are the BEST in the game... But put a maxed out Reis and a maxed out Cid on the battlefield together, and I'll take Cid every time, hands down. Reis can be configured to a potent magic user or fighter, but she won't become a God at either one of them. Cid, on the other hand.... Give him Excalibur and a Chaos Blade, and you've got 999 damage on two regular attacks, and 999 damage on potentially 5 targets at a time with blade grasp. In Bariaus Hill, Cid has saved my ass more times than I care to remember when I got the Hydra/Dragon fights and wasn't ready for them. -------------------- Join the Army, see the world, meet interesting people - and kill them. ~Pacifist Badge, 1978 |

No, Hamedo, by best I meant in your opinion, is Orlandu the best character in the game. I should have phrased the question a little differently, it seems.

In my experiences, yes, Orlandu is the best character. But the thing is, he's too good. It's almost like using him is cheating, in a way. When I went through the game, I used him every battle. All I have to say about this is, it was way too easy. Once I got him, I was never in danger of losing, no matter what I did. Sure, if you take his equipment from him and send him up against a bunch of Tiamats, he'll die. But apart from that, he's pretty much unstopable.
So in my oppinion, he's good, but he's also very cheap. ![]() -------------------- ~ Aurora, exhale bloody air! Dark Holy! ~ |

I find TG Cid too old to fight anymore so I let him reste with my other characters while Our lil Lady Agrias or Reis is doing all the job. Like If orlandu had a chance agaisnt my Agrias or Reis LOL.
Bolt 2 and orlandu's dead ![]() Blood sword hit in the back and Orlandu's dead ![]() Of course orlandu could break Agrias' weapon but don't think Orlandu can still survive. Yes and that is strictly because he is a powerhouse the half-second he joins you. Excalibur, heavy armor, Bracer, and All Swordskill. Just give him Hamedo or Blade Grasp with Maintenence and an increase in Move and no one stands a chance against him. However, due to the fact that he considerably lowers the difficulty/challenge factor in the game in any situation in your party, I replace him with a souped-up Agrias and Meliadoul. I like challenges!

I'd say yes. I have heard of how Agrias or even Meliadoul can be equally effective with the right combinations of equipment, as stated before, but it must be noted that neither have the healing properties of Dark Sword. Capable of attacking, healing, and breaking simultaneously - all while hasted - Orlandu is most likely the strongest character in the game pound for pound.

Orlandu is defenitely the best character in the game, and I think that as long as he has (Equip Sword) and (All Swordskill), he can be the most powerful character in terms of abilities that are non-learnable by other chars(generic chars).

In the sense that his stats are unbelievably stacked in his favor at all times, sure.
In the sense of being a character in a story, then no. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |
