I never save Cid – Why, you ask? Not because I am some heartless asshole, but because the scene with Celes after Cid dies is just too damn good and oh so touching to miss. If you save Cid, the whole thing just feels anticlimactic.

I try and save Cid, but I've only managed too once, and I wasn't too concerned with it that time. I agree with Stephen on the cut scene, but I try to save the old guy. Who doesn't like Cid?

I do, but it is aggravating! I mean really - by that time, my Celes already has great spells like Life and Cure2 - what does the old man need fish for?

I try to save him because not trying is cold and heartless, the cutscene for his death is a rather soothing balm for my conscience after failing.

I don't think she jumped off a cliff to cheer herself up. I think she did it because she couldn't stand to live in a world where all her friends are gone and she has nothing to live for. Just a guess.
Still, I kill 'im. It's a mercy killing. |

When it strikes my fancy and I feel like it. Doesn't particularly matter. I went through the game 10 times before I was told it could be done at all, then I had to be shown to believe it.

The whole mechanics of saving Cid are terrible, though. Okay, you gotta catch the fast fish, I know. And if you talk to the bird it makes some of the fish stop moving, I think it stops the bad fish. Okay, fine. But there aren't always any fast fish to be had. And the only way to reset the fish population is to talk to him, right? But doesn't talking to him without a fish make him worse? Argh! It always seems to take me WAY too long to kill OR save him. I usually end up getting him feeling a little better, and then he craps out on me.

'Cos im a big softy I always gotta save the geeky yellow one..
I'd feel too guilty to just let him die, knowing I could do something to save him.... Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. It basicallly depends on the mood i'm in.

i go back and forth. sometimes i save him. recently i haven't, just because it takes too much time to see that nut in his little slicker say the same thing for the rest of infinity. he always kinda creeped me out anyway.

Quote I don't think she jumped off a cliff to cheer herself up. I think she did it because she couldn't stand to live in a world where all her friends are gone and she has nothing to live for. Just a guess. I remember someone in the game saying that people on the island would go up to the cliffs and jump off to cheer themsleves up. When they pulled themselves from the water they would have a fresh outlook on life and then leave the island, the others would just kill themselves. Or am I mixing that up with something else? -------------------- "You know what they say, 'curiosity killed the cat.'" "'and satisfaction brought him back.'" "What?! No it didn't!" "Of course it did. I remember Cid saying they'd jump off and it'd "perk 'em right up", but that always came off as sarcasm to me.
In truth, though, that was just the translator's attempt at 'censoring' that line and the fact that some of the people who died on the island jumped off the cliff to kill themselves, which is kinda what Celes' intention there was. Hence the somberness. -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. If anything simply cannot go wrong, it will anyway. I always save him. For some reason, I feel like the game is incomplete if the old man dies.
