To set a starting point for your character, simply find the square that you'd like them to start and right-click (as long as you're in the events layer, or whatever it was called), and there should be a selection that will set the starting point.  And if you do get it finished, I think we'd all like to see it. :)

Hey, put the cellphone down for a while
In the night there is something wild
Can you hear it breathing?
And hey, put the laptop down for a while
In the night there is something wild
I feel it, it's leaving me

its kinda stupid but I think youd get a kick out of it! its so funny!

anyways thanx for your help.

EDIT: gah... more problems!
1: how do i make an event only happen once?
2: and how do i make it so that you check something
and you get an item for it, and then you check it again
        and it says empty?
3: i want to make the character pick up a sword, and have
it say, you picked up a sword, and then the sword
disappears (I already know how to put it in your inventory,
i just dont know how to get it to disappear from the screen.

All of your problems above looked like they had to do with Switches. Do something, switch it off to make it not work. It took me like 3 months to figure switches out, but no game can be done without them, haha. I'm sure there's tutorials around for them. Gaminggroundzero.com has some, I believe.

My games were crap until I learned about switches.   Those things are so annoying, but so incredibly vital to your game.  You must understand switches to make your game look even a little good enough to give out to others.  So go learn.  Now.

On the left in your map folders you can right click and make a monster area (is that right?). It makes a folder within your folder for areas of monsters. You set them by dragging the big pink box over the area you want random encounters, and chosing the enemies in some box that pops up. Always right click things you can left click to see if there's any other features the things can do that you don't see first hand. It helps.
