I was gonna make this a poll, but I didn't think there would be enough spaces.
(If this has been done, sorry) The question is just what the title is. What Smash Bros character do you fight best with? Now, this can be either regular Smahs Bros (N64) or Melee (Gamecube) Just say who, and for what reason. For me, it's a tie between Mewtwo and Roy. Mewtwo: Fast character and his teleport makes it easy for me to dodge, plus, when i'm falling I can start charging Shadow Ball. Roy: Incredibly strong character with speed to match. Since he does fire damage it inflicts more damage on opponents. And, as with Mewtwo, he can charge while falling. (Nothin' more satisfying than cracking a full Flare Blade on an opponents head ^-^) -------------------- Link: "What is it?" Mario: "It's coin, what the hell does it look like?" Link: "Well.... What do you do with it?" Mario: "You buy lives with them." Link: ".... Isn't that slavery?" ~Mario/Link crossover comic~ |

First I was best with Samus for the N64. Then I noticed that the character who always gave me the most trouble was Fox, so I decided to see what all the hype was about. Once I started playing with him I couldn't stop, and eventually I got really good. My brother (Captain Falcon) and I were so proud when we beat two level 9 characters with handicap 1
![]() In melee, same deal. Fox all the way. Sometimes I go with Roy just because of the sword. Same with Link, since they allowed him to jump higher. -------------------- This is my world: (Got my second chapter up, 3rd Chapter about 80% complete) http://www3.sympatico.ca/daniel876/homepage.html |

I've got a two. Dr.Mario for fun playthroughs. That throw of his, those capsules, the coat whip... he's like Mario+1. He's a cheap character with damaging and speedy moves once you know how to use him.
Mr.Game & Watch for whooping people. He's just an oddball character, and I've always loved having that 'chance' element. Edit This is for GC, by the way. This post has been edited by Mimic on 7th February 2005 19:42 |

I do well with juat about all of them but I have a particular set of five or six that I'm most effective with. Here's the list with a small bit of my own insight into each:
1. Mario/Dr.Mario ~ (Both characters are very much the same thing, they are only slightly different from one another.) A well balenced character who moves simmilarly to the games that I'm all so fammiliar with. He has everything you'd ever need , despite the fact that none of it is exceptional. 2. Pikachu ~ A speedy little guy with some powerful moves and a nifty recovery move. Proper use of Thunder, "Thunder Jolt" and some smashes can leave the opponent in shambles, far, far, away. 3. Kirby ~ An underrated, pink puff of destruction. Stone is one of the best blocking mechinisms in the game, "Final Cutter is both a high reaching recovery move plus a ranged attack and copying abilities allows for his improvement when nessicary. I think Team Kirby in the original gave him a bad reputation because I see people underestimating his abilities all the time. 4. Ness ~ A unique character that most aren't prepared for. Psi Sheild is the only way to recover without an item, his mid-air jump allows for a quick change in directions if you see danger in your landing spot and PK thunder is a guideable attack. 5. Peach ~ What she lacks in power, she makes up for with that awesome SMB2 type floating ability. A highly mobile character with a decent set of defencive moves. She can even take on Event 51 with relative ease, unlike most other characters I've used. She loses a higher spot on the list because she's Melee only and can be sent flying quite easily with a well placed blow. The rest of the other characters I'm just okay with, although in the right hands they are all hightly destructive. Except for the extreamly light, self damaging Pichu that is. Even Pichu's trophies say Pichu is one of the lesser characters you can use. Nice speed for picking up items though, you can't doubt that. Edit I just realized I must've messed up my rank numbers mid post, just fixing. This post has been edited by Tonepoet on 8th February 2005 03:08 -------------------- |

I'm best with:
Mewtwo: Shadowball + Teleport + really cool jump = best character ever. (Even though they did tone down his skills like, to the bare minimum) Boswer: Got power? Seen as a low-tier, but only because no one follows Bowser rule #1: Hit him back. Bowser's offense makes up for the horrid defense. I used to be good at Kirby and Yoshi in the original. -------------------- Could you repeat that? |

I personally enjoy playing Mario, Dr. Mario, Samus, and Link.
I guess you could say I'm "best" with Marth, since he's the top tier in that game. -------------------- "I always have a quotation for everything - it saves original thinking." ~Dorothy L. Well with Fox in the original I was unbeatable, he had super speed, the reflector and strong throws.
While in Melee I sort of went the opposite way. My best was Gannondorf, he is pure brute force with high damage and some fast executed moves plus he's hard to knock around. -------------------- Life is not a practice, always play to win. I buried Ponce. |

Kirby (both versions): Although he was much more powerful in N64, the GC version still has the best recovery moves without sucking as much as Jigglypuff. Hammers, swords, and rocks make him a pretty solid character.
Game & Watch: Very nice smash attacks that I abuse (big fan of the C-stick), not to mention a decent third jump, long-range attack with a good spread, and the amazing random hit. And with the absorbtion move, you can become the Bearer of Death and All Things Harmful and Destructive. Peach: Hands down, best smash attacks. Absurdly fast, and nothing quite beats seeing Princess Peach beat the crap outta Mario with frying pans and golf clubs. Her only real drawback is the emasculation of playing as her. |

I personally love Ganondorf. After having been addicted to Ocarina of Time for so long, I found it impossible ot avoid him for long. Though he may be slow, if you use him correctly, he is just as good as any of the other characters. Just bring somebody into close range and they're done, not to mention he has incredible juggling ability and a devastating meteor attack/spike. Besides him, though, I'd hafta say Kirby and G&W. I am undefeated with Kirby, but only because I use the cheap swallow-your-enemy-and-hop-off-the-side-of-the-board-and-then-fly-back-up-when-they-free-themself-from-your-cheeks trick. I actually became fairly good with Mr. Game and Watch, but he doesn't compare with Ganondorf for me.

I have two, and its a lot like a 1-2 combo
Ganondorf: I seriously love his power and endurance. He can take damage from items and keep moving forward Ness: His speed and quick attacks are good when facing someone like bowser or ganondorf. Also his dropkick attack is amazingly powerful, as are his smashes and throws. I usually open up with ganondorf and switch it up to ness later. -------------------- And have you found your joy, in this near dead world of ours? |

In Melee, it's all about the Marth for me. Love the guy. He kicks the good ass with his sword and badass posing and random Japanese.
On the N64, I rock with Samus. Time the charged shot right and pound the heck outta' them with the spin thingy to build up their percentage then blow 'em offa' the map with that charged blast. -------------------- Games on the Go Final Fantasy VII Final Fantasy: Four Warriors of Light Baldur's Gate Too much to play, so little time! I'm good with about everyone in that game, but of course I do have my preferences and favorites. The two I play as the most are:
Zelda/Sheik: While I definitely prefer the Shiek half of this character both are fun and have some strengths. Zelda's teleport is way longer, gets you out of danger faster, and she has some evil long range along with the crystal block which is similar to Mario's cape block. Shiek the more melee half is my favorite of course. With the right hit at the right angle, enemy goes sailing up into the air and it's combo city. A lot of the time I can kill people from just one good combo, they never touch the ground. Marth: I haven't used him as much lately, but he's another one that's just devilish to use. Put speed, dodges, and counters together, you have a weapon there. The one thing that always bothered me though was only occasionally could I get ( -> B or <-B ) to do more than two attacks. Shame that. -------------------- This one time I punched a bear in the forehead TO DEATH! I still have the scars on my chest. I am the manliest man that ever did man. In the original, I always mixed it up, but I guess I was best with Yoshi and Fox.
In Melee, I don't play all that much, but I have to say it isn't very difficult to kick ass with Marth. But because my friends and I prefer variety and diversity, we ban playing as either Roy or Marth. Therefore, I mix it up as usual, but I usually favor Yoshi, Link, and Dr. Mario. -------------------- |

I personally like every character best.
But of my favorite would be Shiek. Her agility is great and strength makes up for her not-so-great special moves. Even her fighting style is unique, and the most flowing and funnest to get into. Yougn Link is my favorite. He's only has average offense and defense, and his sword has short reach, but I like him because it makes him a more challenging character to use as opposed to Samus or Link or Pikachu. Also, his speed is incredible. Great for a stealth attack to steal the kill.
Samus is my all around best character. But I gotta say, she's out and out cheap. So many projectiles. The only problem characters are falco and fox (sometimes G&W) as a result. But then you can just use her physical attacks, which are also powerful. Bowser is great for pure power. If you play as me and my college friends did, which was whoever has the most kills wins, Bowser is the way to go. Only problem is he's so big, so he''ll get hit a lot and is usually the first character to bow out of a round. Jigglypuff--pure-comic-value. Endless taunts with a "Jigglypuff!" will work psychological wonders on your enemy. And really, not that bad a fighter. Sing them to sleep, then use a charged up puff kick. Or use a forward+b puff slap repeatedly to just embarass them. Also, when up against the bigger characters like Bowser and Ganondorf, the down + b sleep move is an outright killer. Big boys just shouldn't mess with the Jiggles. |

I'd say I'm best with young link. I know he's weaker than Regular old link, but Normal link moves like molasses... In January... I can't count the times I've been able to suprise people from above with young link's sword drop.
I also use Zelda and Sheik alot. She has everything to offer if you just use her correctly. It's really difficult to judge when you need Zelly, and when you need Sheik, but if you can gauge that, then you own the match. -------------------- TURKEY! - (The only way not to get blocked for using Fowl Language) |

Yoshi (N64 Version) & Kirby (GC Version) are the two that I am best with, they both seem to won when I play as them. Still I would tend to alternate the two around alot as well. Ooops I forot I am good with DK and Roy in melee as well.

What I meant was that when it comes to fighting games and their respective competitions, SSBM isn't taken very seriously. It's more of a party game at heart, which is fine. Compared to classier games like SF3, CvS2, MvC2, SC2, etc., it isn't nearly as demanding skills-wise, and likewise doesn't garner as much respect or attention when it comes to tournaments. It's still a great and popular game, just not in the high-level competitive setting.

Pikachu. Powerful attacks, especially Smashes, insane agility, recovery from any distance short of KABOOM, can play a vertical or horizontal game with equal facility, and there's a big psychological advantage when someone who you know dislikes Pokemon picks their flagship character, then proceeds to hand you your head extra crispy.
Of course, blatant weaknesses include low weight, the fact that two of Pika's specials aren't worth using AT ALL, and the thing where a Fire Emblem character can stay just out of your range while slicing you to heck. -------------------- My soul is bound to the Mistress of the Afterlife, and my fealty is to her always. It probably isn't taken as seriously as other fighting games because of two reasons. The characters, levels, and to some extent the items (okay, three things). But, If you take off items, fight in Kirby's Dreamland (Past Stages) you can get pretty intense. Equal playing field for all characters where skill takes over the luck of a Heart or Maxim Tomato appearing. I always play Fox against three other level 9 computer players with no items. Sometimes, the fights get pretty tough (in melee that is).
