I voted for Butz. Sure, he isn't exactly Captain Well-Developed, but I sort of liked that. You could shape him, and elaborate on his feelings yourself, plus he's one of the most human heroes ever. Keep your moody Squalls and valiant Cecils, I like a character who's afraid of heights, and would dance with 'exotic dancers' and look for Playboy in a library.

Ramza's character is admirable.
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
He had everything: nobility, money, respect, and he threw it away for justice. After finding out that his own brother was in on it, he was forced to fight him and kill him, his own brother. He threw everything he had away to protect the innocent and vanquish the evil that was threatening Ivalice.

I would consider Laguna to be co-main characters with Squall on FF8, but since Laguna is not on the list, my vote goes to Ramza.

A character with a believable story, abmirable motives and goals, and a two-sword weilding mass of destruction or a mere mage, is fighting style was completely interchangeable and worth more than one playthroughs.

Honorable mentions to Squall, Zidane, and Cloud.

This is real lame, but i picked Benjamin. I really hated all the Main Characters. Well..not hate, but disliked to an extent. None really popped out but Benjamin. First off i didn't find MQ to be as bad a game as alot of people make it out to be. I liked it infact. Benjamin was cool because he was very Non chalant about constantly being thrashed around by fate. He was constantly getting tossed about in the wind, and he maintained a positive attitude. He was quite the ladies man too i think smile.gif

Butz!? LOL! Great name. "Hi, I'm BUTZ." laugh.gif

Well I voted for Cloud. His personality is the most interesting out of all the main characters, in my opinion.

I say CLOUD ROOLZ! however i think Final Fantasy needs new Black Wizard Heroes, and Vivi isn't just much. He's just a little guys who... CIRES!! pinch.gif I would like a more serious and amazing Black Wizard hero, honestly

Even though Butz DOES sound a bit weird, i think Bartz sounds much worse. I mean, it sounds just like Bart Simpson's

As for the rest:

Cecil.- A dark knight turning into a paladin does not happen very often. I liked it
Terra\Celes.- Few of wizard-like heroes. They are pretty too.
Squall.- His personality at first really made me desperate and he finished just like everybody else: with the girl thumbdown.gif
Zidane.- His tail makes him look like a wannabe Goku and his "genome" storyline made me kind of dislike him more than before, and he also ended up with the girl... pretty original
Tidus.- I've never really played FFX, so he's saved from being striked
Ramza.- He is another cool character, and i agree with MarquisElmdor pretty much
Benjamin: Whos he? I've never heard of him before...

I dunno, the main characters ain't usually my fave in RPGs. They all in some way follow the same formula. I think Terra would be my choice for originality.

But overall Byuu from Bahamut Lagoon would be mine. Only main character to start with the girl and then loose her to the guy he's fighting. tongue.gif

My vote is for Cloud, The whole personality complex adds a lot of depth to the character. I like it.

I want to play Bahamut lagoon... sad.gif

Benjamin. When fate taps them on the shoulder and says "save the world", many a main character does not wish to get involved, or suddenly goes on an ego trip. A few simply flip out. What does Benjamin do?

*shrug* "Yeah, sure. Why not?"

Oh, yeah. It takes Bolt Crank level coolness to pull off the "I'll do it cuz I ain't got nothin' better to do" attitude. Squall and Paine could both take lessons from this Benjamin fellow. Plus, the guy is an uber-Red Mage, a jack-of-all-trades who can actually master both black and white magic, and wield any weapon with ease. And he only ever had a single side-kick to help him. None of this, two to six man back-up attack force. Just team him up with a hot babe, or a hot stud, and he's off to save the world before kickin' back with a cold one.

And even after saving the effing world, he still can't sit still! Most RPG heroes hang up their hat or lead a quieter life after their quest. Not Benjamin. The guy's like the Goku of RPGs; once he finally beats his most powerful opponent, does he stop there? Hell, no, he's off to kick more butt.

Ramza. Too many people have already stated it in this thread, but here I go: Ramza was a noble who had everything, but he cast it aside to fight and bring justice to the land of Ivalice. He even had to fight and kill his own brothers, and that requires a really strong person. Even though he could have taked the easy way out and play hero like Delita did, he took the hard route, fighting for justice while being considered "bad blood" by his brothers and forever remembered by history as some blasphemer who supposedly was the root of all evil. No other hero comes close to what Ramza had to endure, and even though he isn't some holy paladin or macho mercenary, Ramza beats them all.

I'd pick Zidane for one reason: his thief weapons. Those double bladed swords are so cool. Plus I like the way he holds his daggers in combat: the way a dagger is meant to be used as far as I'm concerned.

Celes! Good character development, pretty, and even in a no esper she makes both a good fighter AND a good mage.

Terra and Ramza would both be number 2. And about Ramza, i just love haviing a well developed character who's skills you decide, and how could anyone say a MERE mage? My Ramza is a magic usiong weapon of mjass desctruction, thank you very much!

Zidane is definately next. A theif for a main character? Not a knight, a theif? SWEET!

I didn't really like Cloud and Squall in their games. In kingdom mHearts, however, they were awesome!

Although I haven't finished FFX yet, Tidus seems like a bit of a whiney dumbass. Also a crappy narrator. Does he ever get less annoying? Or at least get a better reason than that his dad drank and was mean too him? Because my dad drank and was mean to me, but I don't use that as an excuse to be a whiney dumbass.

I vote Ramza. His innocence and naivety made a nice addition to a character whose change could be documented chapter by chapter. He was very humanistic and even though he's not one of my favorite characters, he definately makes a great main character.

I'd have to say Cloud cause his vitory stance is awsome and no matter how many times he does it he always manages to miss that point of hair.

Benjamin.Amen to what sharkerbob said about Benjamin(I would quote it but I don't know how to quote right). And besides, his game wasn't all that bad. Here are my thoughts on the other FF Main Characters.

Cecil (FF4)-He was a cool character, even when he turned into a Paladin.

Butz/Bartz (FF5)-Didn't finish playing his game but so far he's starting to sound cool.

Terra (FF6)-Every time she kept on asking questions about love or anything else it sounded like she was an alien or something(or maybe she was since I didn't get far in FF6)

Celes (FF6)-She was a main character? If she was I haven't played nor heard her game before.

Cloud (FF7)-His story was awesome and crazy. He was also cool.

Squall (FF8)-Pretty much what everyone else says about Squall. His Gunblade is cool also.

Zidane (FF9)- He was funny and he was a thief with cool weapons.Cool.

Tidus (FF10)- Read FF5.

Ramza (FFT)- His story was one of the most realistic story I have ever heard.

My favorite FF main character is either Ramza Beoulve or Cloud Strife.

Cloud because he's a "Munchkin" (12~13 commands biggrin.gif ) and not an annoying putz like Tidus

Ramza because he's a really developed character and is the main character in my favorite FF.

So, I'll go with Ramza Beoulve

Ramza, with Zidane second. Funny, but I never was the hugest fan of Cloud or Squall, I prefer more traditional heroes to anti-heroes; I'm with Fox, they were much cooler in Kingdom Hearts.

Delita, he was being used and wanted to get revange by using others.

Cloud, I make no pretences I'm just a massive fan. If not Cloud I would say Ashe, who for me is the main character of XII. I know it's ambiguous, and you've every reason for putting Vaan, however I see Ashe as the focal point of the story throughout. After the beginning Vaan takes a back seat and doesn't really come into it. He's like the clueless child we can relate to in this new world. I totally agree that Terra is the main character in VI, although I know there are people who disagree.
