Hello and welcome to CoN.
Well, its all a matter of how good you are, what you've got equiped and how many times you've played the game. I'm assuming you've just beat Kefka right? Well at this point in the game, if I have the best equipment availible to me I can pull off levels six to eight. Normaly though, that is if I don't go fanatical over stealing stuff and questing around the world for things that'll be of no use to me in the second half of the game, I'm around eight to fourteen. However, on my first playthrough, I remember my characters were around twelve to sixteen. So it all depends, what've you got equiped at the moment? -------------------- |

Those fossil fangs by kohlingen in my experience spell doom when you first encounter them. Best to stick to the grasslands and fight the enemies there and then heal up at the inn.

What keith said. FossilFang is a very strong enemy for that point of the game, so just avoid it. Get out of the desert as soon as you can - it shouldn't take more than one battle to do so, and you should probably just run from that one.
I believe a level in the low to mid teens is fairly typical for that point in the game. If you're not having trouble with any of the other enemies in the Kohlingen area, you're probably fine. |

I used them to level up using the all-mighty power of the phoenix down! God bless the undead.

You know what you should've done? This is my opinion, but...
Train Terra up to LV8-9 in the Narshe Mines earlier in the game and you'll get Locke at LV11. Great start for a high level game btw.. Yeah, when I first played the game I was a low-leveler. I made it to Returners' hideout with Terra at lv 9. If you play by emulator, it is recommended you turn on the turbo speed thing and run around so you fight and gain tons of exp.. Good luck training in the forest south of Kohligen !! |

Also don't feel bad if you lose to the fossil fangs. In my opinion they are harder than the other enemies you encounter in that area. But hey if you want to beat them feel free to do so.
