Hello everyone!! I have a question I think would be interesting to get your opinions on. For me personally, Final Fantasy VI is definitely the best game I've ever played, and this is largely due to the fact that it is easy to become emotionally attached to the characters (really cool battles aside). Locke, Terra, Celes, and Shadow are the ones that I seem to understand the most. And oddly, so is Kefka. I've been working on creating my own character for that thread; this character will have something to do with Kefka's turn to evil (because I don't believe that anyone is born evil, even in the Final Fantasy world).
My question is, is there anything you do in the game that makes you feel "closer" to the characters? Possible spoilers: highlight to view I, for example, always equip Terra with Maduin before anything else (seeing as how Maduin is Terra's father), and Terra is always the first to be taught spells by Maduin. In my view, that just seems to be Terra's right first. I would appreciate your ideas! -------------------- "I will create a monument to nonexistence!!" interesting. I for one think that doing what you have described is a bit silly from a strategy point of view. after all - she learns fire 2 on her own, and has more than enough magic power to warrant a better choice of level-up bonus. and personally, I can't think of any other ways one could do that, aside from giving your beloved character first choice of weapons.

My usual party consists of the brothers Figaro. It's only right they should fight together.
When I assault Kefka's tower, I make one of my parties consist of Strago, Relm, and Shadow (Obvious reasons). -------------------- This is my world: (Got my second chapter up, 3rd Chapter about 80% complete) http://www3.sympatico.ca/daniel876/homepage.html |

Well, I use Terra, Celes, Locke and Edgar (Or sometimes Sabin) Together alot, seeing as I felt they were the charecters who game closest together during the course of the game.
When it comes to equipting espers, I usualy try to match personalities. Gau = Stray, Celes = Shiva, ect. It may not make sense, but hey, you gotta enjoy the game, right? Hmmm... Oh, and I usualy always give Locke the Sprint Shoes. He's a theif, he's fast, get it? Quote (Djibriel @ 30th January 2005 18:12) Yeah. For those of you who don't know: Possible spoilers: highlight to view is Shadow's daughter. Strago Really? That seems like some sort of time paradox, mixed with some gender confusion. He means Possible spoilers: highlight to view is Shadow's daughter.Relm I gave Maduin to Terra my first couple of times through as well. Along with giving Celes the spells that would give ice magic. On later play throughs i was more experienced with the bonuses and I knew that Terra and Celes would learn their elemental spells on their own, so I was more concerned with building character stats. -------------------- -- You're Gonna Carry That Weight -- |

Hur hur!
Anyhoo, I actually still equip Terra with Maduin right off. Yes, I'm aware of all that technical stuff, but it just makes sense...y'know? Same thing with Celes gettin' Shiva and all, only I kinda do that subconsciously. Eddy and Sabin always fight together; they can't be in my party without the other, provided the other's available. Terra always gets the best equipment, Locke gets to suffer under the Cursed Shield 'til it's dispelled, Cyan gets left behind to mow the grass around the airship, etc. Oh, and at the Imperial encampment near Doma I always let Kefka attack Shadow and Sabin first. What? Those little 'mock' fights are so unbalanced, it's only right they get whacked in the face with a Morning Star! It'd be degrading any other way... -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. If anything simply cannot go wrong, it will anyway. When locke is 'protecting' celes, I always keep celes in the back row and locke in the front. Dunno why but it seems right.
I almost always have terra (at the endgame) being a pure or almost pure caster, just because I figure she should be all mystical and whatnot. Sabin and Edgar will fight in seperate parties rather often, but they usually form the backbone of my "4 powerful" people party, like when I'm exploring or finishing things up in the WoR. Shadow almost always relies on physical attacks and the throw command when I play him through. In fact, I only usually give him espers when he's about to level up so that he can increase his stats. Oh yeah, and at the imperial camp I always use attacks that will send kefka into his "death" sprite (high damage things like throw, suplex, etc), but then he jumps back up and gives those googly eyes! Its fun. |

Like other people, I go the sentimental-but-not-strategic route and give Maduin to Terra as soon as I can. Atma Weapon always goes to Terra just because the other Atma is a monster of incredible magic or whatnot, and Terra is the one with the natural ability in magic. And with it she can truly inspire fear and tear apart basically anything in her path, like how she was described in the beginning in the game. Not that Terra is a monster or anything. Say that and I kill you.
![]() Locke always gets the True Knight relic. His personality seems to fit that the most. Cyan is more of a samurai, and he's a somewhat depressing character, so I never give it to him. It seems like he has enough problems of his own to warrant not giving it to him. Sabin always gets the Genji Glove, since him with a shield just seems silly. Plus, the first time I ever saw the game was a trailer teaser thing in some store. The showed a battle in the WoR, and Sabin just jumps out and slashes an enemy with his claws twice. I thought at that moment, "That is the most awesome fighter in FF I've ever seen." So, Sabin gets it first for being my vision of the pure warrior. Hmm... Mog is always with Umaro. Strago, Relm, and Shadow always together, too. Locke is always with Celes NO MATTER WHAT. Only time that isn't the case is if I'm forced to have Locke in the party, but not Celes. Hmm... that about it. |

Just for fun, I had Edgar cast Reflect on Sabin and then had Edgar bounce magic attacks off his brother. Eh ... sibling rivalry?

I always use Locke and Celes together. I guess it links back to what I said in the naming topic, that I name Locke after the man in my life and Celes after me, so I just want them to be together. Plus, I am a total klepto. Steal is my favorite feature in any game, so even if I had named Locke Gleebo, I would have him in my party 24/7. Celes, not so much.

I just remembered another little bit of sentimentality I apply to the game. Whenever Cyan is fighting at Doma when they first get invaded, I have him kill all the Guards assualting the castle before I go after the General. It's not like it makes a difference or anything, but I figure it's just sort of pre-justice. If that makes any sense

I go to Config and use the blue menu (the default) for the World of Balance. I choose the more reddish one for the World of Ruin.

One part of the game that makes me understand the characters more is...
Possible spoilers: highlight to view ...after defeating Kefka at Narshe. If you take Edgar and Sabin to Figaro Castle you see a cutscene of how and why Sabin left the kingdom to go train as a fighter.
