Sabin's Blitz?

Hi, i'm playing the Playstation version of FF6 and i'm having a lot of trouble doing some of Sabin's blitzes such as Aurabolt and Firedance. I can't seem to do the left-down or the right-down. Any suggestions or help?

You're supposed to slide your thumb across the pad, as opposed to pressing the directions individually (I'm guessing that,s what you're doing because I can't see how it would fail otherwise...

two hints: either you control need to be fixed or you maybe doing the blitzes in the wrongs directions , remember the blitz command dont change even it is a back attack or pincer, or maybe you can quit on sabin and use a better character like setzer or mog, kupo
