Just as Lazarus hath returned from the grave, so hath Stephen the Third returned to CoN (hopefully I'll have time to actively post)! I trust that all who know me are as excited to hear from me as a small child is when he sees the ice cream truck driving down his street – especially you, Djibriel. tongue.gif

Anyway, for my return thread I would like to present the question of which remix of a Final Fantasy VI song is your favourite (I figure this will let me know of any songs to look for that I do not have already).

My vote goes for the Black Mages' remix of "Dancing Mad," as it just plain kicks butt, complete with a friggin' electric guitar solo later on in the song. However, it can be quite a pain in the arse to find.

So, anyway, what are your favourite remixes? If you would like to find some very good ones, check out ocremix.org, as they have a killer remix of Cid's theme (it's just... so catchy... argh).

Same: Black Mages' version of "Dancing Mad". That's, like, one of the best things I've ever heard.

Oh, and welcome back. Been wondering where that ever-present Calbrina doll ran off to...

Gotta Be the Paino Version of the boss theme (Decisive Battle) or Terra's Theme in Piano, if they count that is.

Yeah, it took me a while to find that sucker. Well worth it, though... even if they did shorten the song quite a bit. happy.gif

For Rock/Techno remix I too have to go with Dancing Mad. I listen to it about 5 times a day. Usually when bored at school or home. This has to be one of my all time favorite songs for a couple reasons. I really like the Baroque/ Midieval blend of technology and organ used in the song. I also like the song itself because in my opinion it did an incredible job of matching Kefkas personality in general. I happen to think that of all the boss battle themes, this one was by far the best at capturing the attude, and style of Kefka, who i believe was refered to at one point by our friend as 16th century nobility. As stated the organ in the song captures that feeling really well and I find it easy to associate with Kefkas style, whereas the the badass gutars and drums pick up the evil in his personality. Much like the whole split wing fallen angel look you see on Kefka at the top tier.

For Piano/Classical, if you wanna call these a remix, I pick the classic piano version of the Mystic Forest. I picked this one because it was done the best out of any of the classical remixes i've heard.

A really good remix should be like taking a masterpiece and turning it into something greater than you could have hoped to imagine.

Couldn't have put it better, MogMaster. Glad to be referred to as "our friend." Warms my heart. wub.gif

alphasmart, It is rather tough to find online. If you are interested, perhaps when I get home later on I can send it to you through AIM or e-mail?

Actually, I'd highly recommend the entire album. While "Dancing Mad" is widely considered the best, it's also got great remixes of other songs like FFVI's boss theme ("The Decisive Battle"), "Clash on the Big Bridge" (Big Bridge/Gilgamesh's theme from FFV), a spectacular version, in my opinion, of FFI's battle theme, among several others. I was able to get a copy off Amazon, but you could probably find it on eBay for cheaper than it already is, too.

The best one I've heard is "The Endless Search" by NoppZ, a remix of "Searching For Friends" with Celes' theme thrown in for good measure. The song sounds like it was made with cheesy music software and/or hardware, but it's well arranged so that makes it entertaining... for a while.

From the piano collections album, "The Mystic Forest" and "Terra" are equally great in my opinion.

I'm telling NoppZ that you said that. The mix was composed on pretty high quality stuff from what it sounds like. It's all synth which is probably what has got you so upset. You see, about 30 or 40 years ago, people started using their computers for making music with excellent results and remixers such as NoppZ carry on with the tradition. Sure we all love orchestral and piano pieces but that doesn't make this sort of music any poorer in terms of quality.

That is NOT techno. It's a rock guitar piece. How you got that confused with electronic bleeps I will never know.

Overclocked Remix classifies this song as a remix because, as you say, it is a remix.
HOWEVER, just because it's a remix doesn't make it Techno. In fact, it is a commonly repeated statement over on OCR's forums (which I frequent) that NOT ONE of the remixes on the site could be classified as Techno. Techno, like I said, is electronic beeps and mechanical noises. A rock guitar does not qualify.

But thanks for trying. rolleyes.gif
