Hmm, I solved it exactly how you're soposed to solve it:

By talking to everybody in Zozo and eliminating their answers. After all they are all liars, one guy even tries to tell you his minute hand is wrong.
but it is time consuming with all of those random battles. It was hard to figure out too. I mean, I didn't solve it till I was late into the game. As for what's behind it, I know exactly what's there. I just won't say what it is in a topic where that would be a spoiler.

Isn't that the only way? tongue.gif
The user used it on an NPC in my very first sig. If you can remember that, though, then you need to get a life.

There are a good hundred or so possible combinations. Back then, I was young and patient enough to try them all out one by one. Brute force always does the job, if tediously and slowly. tongue.gif I did piece together enough clues through Zozo to narrow it down to a few possible combinations though.

Pretty good prize. Since he was in my first party, it was worthwhile. It's a shame there aren't many puzzles like this one in the game though; side quests that involve nothing more than equipping offering+genji glove on a character and tearing through some boss are no fun. :/

I talked to everyone in Zozo but didn't know you were supposed to eliminate all their answers; I forgot 'em anyway. So, doing what a lot of people have probably done, I took out my pencil and paper and wrote out the permutations.

I got it eventually, 'though I can't remember what it is. I never finished FFVI. =/

Indeed.

For so many years I had no idea the lying SOB's around the place could reveal the Secret o' the Clock. Didn't matter though, 'cause a cheats/code list did it for me.

Did anybody else play thru the game more than once, and then subconsiously activate the clock? I played thru that game ten times(ten frickin' times, and it never gets old!) and every time I got to Zozo, I just got it right the first time. That's really weird... I'm freaking myself out!!!

IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW THE CORRECT TIME, DON'T READ THE FOLLOWING SPOILER. (Unless you're Zeil, as there's a message for you in it too.)

Actually, Zeil, you got the minutes and seconds switched. The correct time is 6:10:50.

I first played this back in 95, before I had internet or anything, so I had to figure it out myself. I just wrote down all the possible hours, minutes and seconds in columns, and then as I talked to the liars, I would cross off the ones that they said. You do end up with a couple of choices (the liars' clues don't completely give it to you) but you only have to try a few things to get it.

god, all this talk of cheat lists. you guys make me feel old, and i'm really not old at all. i honestly don't remember how i figured out how to get behind that clock, i was like 10 when the game came out so i doubt i was clever enough to figure the real solution out, but i know i did it, so maybe... anyway, being 10 and not really playing the game with any "finesse" i was stoked...not to say it's not a FANTASTIC item, but there are so many more ways to have fun, now i know.

There isn't another way , the only way to get the chainsaw is to insert the right time in the clock sleep.gif

Hehe, the real secret in Zozo isn't the clock. It's that bloody hidden passage in town which brings you to the west side, where a few treasures can be obtained.

God knows it took me years of playing and ROM hacking to eventually extract the map data and notice you could sneak behind a few buildings in the upper-left corner... o_x

And I'm probably the only idiot who never figured it out. XD

..I did not know about that passage.
I'm going to try it now.

PS, if you can't find something, and have ZSNES as an emulator, try pressing buttons 1-5 above the keyboard. wink.gif

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
1 removes layer BG1, which is used for about half the map, and the entirety of the overworld map. 2 removes layer BG2, which is used for the background in most places. 3 removes what I like to call "clouds", which is basically any clouds, fog, rain, text, or some spells. The only place I found where BG4 was used is the X menu. It removes the right side with "Item, Skills," and so forth. 5 removes Sprites. Don't worry. Just press the button again to reverse it. Kthx!
