Correct. Celes with the setup you specified. In fact, Celes with this setup on any console or emulator will work and be the highest MagicBlock% attainable.
* Mog has 12% innate MBlock, not 18% * Gau has 18% innate MBlock, but Gau's max MBlock is 168%. Alphasmart is up. Zephyr Capes stink. Sell them and never look back. |

having no good questions at this moment in time, I put it up for grabs.
on a side note, I mixed up gau and mog, and I didn't get the bit you put: Quote console type and lastly, if that is so, what is the red cape that sometimes comes up on your character when you block something? I was under the impression it was that. and personally 10% mblock is good enough to warrant a 'good' label on the zephyr cape -------------------- "Fire and steel follow me through the lands you will burn hordes of hell in the deadly raging flames of revenge" Rhapsody - Flames of Revenge |

The White Cape gives the same Magic Evade if I remember propery, however, it also gives you defence and immunity. The Zepher Cape gives only Magic and Physical Evade, but due to the famous Phys evade bug the unique stat does nothing. The magic evade + of the Zepher cape compared to the White Cape makes the Zepher cape only marginally more valuable then the Goggles and beads.

I think this is a good one, I put quite the bit of thought into this question.
Scattered all through out the World of Balance, there are many places where you can fight enemies without the slightest chance of getting into "random battles". Can you name those places? Bonus points if you can point out how the different battles start. Please be specific as you can and remember, the answers are WoB only. -------------------- |

I'm not quite sure what you're looking for, but I'll give it a try. I think you mean places in the game where you can walk around without random encounters but still initiate battles if you choose. I'm not counting any bosses that you have to walk up to, though come to think of it most of them are in areas with random encounters anyway. So here's a few:
In South Figaro with Locke you can fight the soldiers or merchant In the Imperial Camp you have to fight the soldiers with Cyan but there are no encounters, also outside of Doma when you attack the commander (those aren't optional fights though, so I'm not sure if you're counting them) In the Opera House rafters you fight the rats (kinda optional if you're lucky) In Vector if you tell the woman in the shack you're Returners you fight people In Vector if you go in the castle you can fight (and be slaughtered by) Guardian When you're controlling Gen. Leo and you try to leave Maranda you can fight Guardian At the banquet in Vector you fight people without random encounters In the burning house in Thamasa you only fight if you touch the flames That's all I can think of, if that is what you're looking for after all. It is a good question though, makes you think |

In addition to that list I add -
The initial travel through Narshe where guards attack your magitek armor The multi-party battle in Narshe where Locke and the Moogles fight the guards The battles with soldiers and Kefka in the Imperial Camp BEFORE Doma is poisoned The battles with Dark Force in Narshe if you ignore the pattern the sparkly thing travels The multi-party battle in Narshe where Banon must be protected from Imperial attack I'm sure there's more though! -------------------- My soul is bound to the Mistress of the Afterlife, and my fealty is to her always. So let's just hope she doesn't use it as one of her ten daily meals. |

I've got one:
In the imperial base beside the floating continent there are soldiers walking around that you can fight. I think you have to go there before you go to Vector or all the soldiers will be gone. ![]() |

Okay, two days are up, time for the answer but first there are some things I must say. First off, the next question is up for grabs. Second off, imperialstooge, don’t worry about misunderstanding the question. From what you said, I think you got exactly what I ment. That is except that I am counting bosses you can talk to. However, like you said, most of them are in places that wouldn’t count anyways. Third off, sorry everybody for the long post but the WoB is a very big place.
Now for the answer with locations listed in the order you would find them logicaly in the story: The Town of Narshe: Before you enter the caves, passing certain areas starts a battle with different enemies. The Caves of Narshe at “The Battle for Terraâ€: During the battle to protect Terra you can start some battles via running into enemies and “talking†to the boss. The “Training Area†in Narshe: This is your first logical encounter with “A Monster in a Boxâ€. “Cut scene at Figaro Castleâ€: I don’t know exactly how to describe this but I’ll try. You can start a battle via continuing the story past Kefka’s “Barbecue†thus starting a fight where I'd reccomend using magic ![]() _________________________________________________ The story splits up into three different scenarios, each of which can start before another. I shall list them in the order the manual suggests you go. _________________________________________________ Bannon’s Scenario The Caves of Narhse at the Security Point: Get the wrong light and a battle with a couple of different types of monsters starts. _______________ Locke’s Scenario The Outdoors in South Figaro: Three different kinds of Imperial Soldier’s are outside. Talk to some of the ones in Magitek Armor or the ones in green suits while not dressed like a soldier yourself and a battle starts. Inside of the the Inn of S.F. : There is a merchant who if you talk to while not dressed up as a merchant says he’s out of supplies. You can choose one of two responses, say “I’m going to pound your face in.†and a battle with him starts. The Item Shop in S.F: There are so many shops in the S.F. I forgot which was which so I’ll just state which one I think it was. While not dressed up as a merchant, talk to the "merchant" who doesn't sell you anything inside of this store. A battle automaticly starts. _______________ Sabin’s Scenario The Desert’s Imperial Base: There are so many battles here. The different ways of starting a battle here are as follows: Running into a Guard, two “Monsters in a Boxâ€, if you open a certain box the wrong way a battle starts, “talking†to Kefka before the poisoning. During Cyan’s great escape you can also talk to the guards from the front and pass certain spots to activate battles too.(Some of these are even after your first visit at Doma Castle but I don't want to list this place twice.) The Gates of Doma Castle: Talking to the soldiers and their boss. ________________________________________________ The Battle at the Snow Fields of Narshe: By running into the different soldiers and talking to Kefka. Above the Stage Inside of the Opera House: Via running into Rats The Imperial Base on the Southern Continent: Running into guards or by trying to get past certain areas. Outside the City of Vector: Running into or “talking†to the guards and if you try to enter the castle to early you can “fight†the Guardian too. Also once you beat the Magitek Research Facility trying to enter the town also initiates a guardian battle. Inside of a Shack at Vector: Saying no to ‘pledging you allegiance to the empire' initiates a pathetically easy battle. (Reccomended battle actualy since it gives you a place to heal here in Vector without going to that robber's Inn. [Sometimes he steals 1000 Gil from you in your sleep.]) The Palace in Vector: Running into the various castle guards and accepting the battle with the Sp Forces during the dinner both activate battles. The Burning House in Thamasa: Running into the flames mostly. Also, getting past a certain point activates the Flame Eater battle. The Attack at Thamasa: Running into the “MagiTek Soldiers†and talking to Kefka when you have control of Leo. Then the floating continent appears which is the beginning of the end for the WoB. After typing this I must say that the Tintinacure Bar has never looked so good before, has it? If you could only get it a little earlier . . . (By the way, I know about the soldier in Molbliz. I mean even earlier then the time he gives it to you.) This post has been edited by Tonepoet on 8th January 2005 16:39 -------------------- |

I dare say that is an awful amount of spoiler you have just posted tonepoet. not everyone has played through this yet (although I feel if not why not, but still...)
Edit oh, and I have a question. what happens if in battle the party is against leapfrogs, and someone uses palidor (for example) to get all characters jumping, and all leapfrogs also jump? I did this as an experiment once.
You just land in your spot, and use the command you gave before jumping, which does the "miss" sound effect, but dosen't say "miss"(offensive magic just has no effect, curative is nnormal). This happens with all 4 players. The frogs then land on you as if you'd been there the whole time, and battle continues. Sometimes the order of landing is swapped, and you land on them instead. -------------------- When life gives you lemons... SQUIRT THEM IN PEOPLES EYES! Mwahahahahaha! *Squirt* Ow! Okay, in the WoR, there are two landmarks that when you spin in circles (holding L or R,A, and the coresponding direction on the d-pad) your spin is almost exactly matched up with the size of the landmark.
What two landmarks am I talking about? -------------------- When life gives you lemons... SQUIRT THEM IN PEOPLES EYES! Mwahahahahaha! *Squirt* Ow! That is difficult but I have spinned around in circles like that allot. Based on the fact that its a relitivly small area you go around in, I have three guesses:
1. Ebot's Rock and Solitary Island. 2. Based on the fact that you said landmark, I'm going to guess Kefka's Tower and Ebot's Rock. 3. Triangle Island and that island Doma Castle is on. (Incase it is a slightly larger area then I think it is.) This post has been edited by Tonepoet on 10th January 2005 00:51 -------------------- |

1. Ebot's Rock, Kefka's Tower. No, too small.
2. Solitary Island, Triangle Island, Doma area. Not roundy enough. Don't take landmark too literaly. I just mean a roundy area the size of the spin. -------------------- When life gives you lemons... How about the ring of mountains around the Phoenix Cave for one, and... I would have said Triangle Island but you've said it isn't one, so... How about that chunk of island that Maranda is on, connected to the Opera House? It's about the same size.

I have a guess based purely on scanning the maps...
Daryl's Tomb entrance plateau and Phoenix Cave. It has been 9 days since Sprite Meister has responded to anyone's answer. ImperialStooge, was told he got Phoenix Cave right first, so ImperialStooge, you can go ahead and post the next trivia question. When SpriteMeister returns he can respond to all the proposed solutions. It is very rude to disappear for 9 days after setting a question. But these things happen. |

Yikes, I honestly don't realy remember that because it is such an unimportant item. I'm going to take a wild guess though and say that the first time you get one is in the Imperial Camp during Sabin's scenerio. I seem to remember getting one of those Shell and/or Safe items there . . .

eato, I was right. I us d to go and raid everything tha` in cam4 had and checked out th$ descriptions afterwards. For s.me reas+n the item descriptions always stick with me. (However always get safe and shell conf sed.)
Anyway, I'm tapped for FF VI info untill I get back to the WoR to confirm some things and refresh my memory. (Gtupid A-rforce. Who would'v known hat three to four level" can make such a big difference in this battle?) That means, th! next question is up for grabs. -------------------- |
