Although I don't follow football that much, a highlight on the news showed how Moss gestured to moon the crowd in a game last week (I'm sure some of you heard about it). Anyway, he was fined $10,000 I believe. After which he was talking and saying something about how that isn't a dent in his wallet whatsoever, and that maybe next time he'll pull down his pants and wave his... well, I think I can stop there, you get the idea.

Ahtletes bug me so much when it comes to money. They basically throw it around like it grows on trees, when some people work so hard day in day out to earn even a fraction of the amount professional athletes make. And I don't think I heard too much about many athletes donating money to the Tsunami relief.

If he can laugh at a $10,000 fine, why not give some of that wealth to someone who might actually appreciate it...

Any other opinions?

It's not like the money is buried underground never to be seen again; I believe it goes back to the sports organization. But I do agree that you should keep the salary that you earn. Would I pay a sports athlete fifty million dollars to play football? No. Would I pay a construction worker fifty thousand dollars to hold up a yield sign during road work? No.

I actually think it was stupid to fine him (and I hate the Vikings) since the "mooning" was just a gesture. Tony Dungy even laughed about it. If I was blessed enough to make the paychecks that overpaid sports athletes take in, I know I wouldn't mess around with it. Tithe it, donate it maybe, but not waste it.

Not all players are like Randy Moss or Terrell Owens. They just get all the headlines because they are just like you said, throw around money and don't care about their actions. But seriously, the vast, and I mean VAST majority of the NFL and the rest of professional sports players are generally class acts. Well mannered, conscientious, and rarely take any credit themselves. The media just likes to blow things out of proportion and make it look like professional sports is in disarray, and full of lawlessness, which couldn't be further from the truth. You get a couple guys competing for end zone celebrations, mix it up with a bullpen scuffle, and top it off with a huge basketbrawl and bam! Professional Sports is out. of. control. No?

Out of how many sports athletes that could be donating significant sums to the victims, it doesn't seem like that many. Not to say that the money doesn't help, but geez, when you make millions of dollars, donating ten or twenty thousand seems kind of peasly.

Don't take that as disgraceful or anything, but it comes off as stingy, at least to me. =/

Maybe I should spend less time in my basement on my computer and not jump to conclusions so quickly . Thanks for the links Tidu-who, I retract my earlier statements to a degree. But, as Shotgunnova said, based on the number that COULD be donating money, the percentage is probably lower. However, it's not like I'm any better. I've been donating a buck each day I've been back at school this semester, which pales in comparison to what a lot of people have done, so it isn't really my call to say who is being selfish.
