Despite logic, I'm new to this ole game.
I'm hoping to find the most perfect and powerful ability combos to sate my OCD proclivity towards perfectly cohesive battle options. you know, little things like giving the two-weapon wielding ninja the monk's counter ability and then equipping him with elemental-critting weapons so that when he counters he lands a potential 4 blows, that type of thing. that wonderfully neat organization of abilities. anyone care to share some good ones? thanks |

There are a lot of combos possible for the game, with various levels of efficiency.
Although said in a very weird way, the combo by Blythe is often considered one of the most powerful one of the game: you have to master the Calculator Job, and then switch to the Wizard class. You get a Wizard with the ability to cast spells all around the battlefield. If you want to be at the greatest efficiency, just equip Chameleon Robe or Excalibur to anyone and use Math Skill to cast Holy on every units of the battlefield: you'll damage (and likely kill) every enemy units, and heal yours due to the Holy Absorb ability of the Robe and the Knight Sword...the same feature can be used with various equipment giving protection against one element, like Rubber Shoes or Fire Shield, but this setup is the most common. The MP Switch + Move MP Up is another great combo. Basically, provided that you can take a turn between attacks, you're invicible: the MP Switch will convert damage to MP loss, and the Move MP Up will recover a few MP. Enough so that the MP Switch counter ability can function the next turn...if you have a high enough Brave (remember that the Counter abilities only work Brave % of the time). Counter skill Abandon with either Venetian Shield, Aegis Shield or Escutcheon II. It all depends on wether you want your knight to be impervious to physical attacks, magical attacks, or both...you can also slap on a Feather Mantle if you do not have the Escutcheon II. Giving the Draw Out skill to a mage has been proven very effective, since it depends on MA. Once again, the Wizard is the favored class for this, since it has the highest MA (a female wizard is even better, due to the fact that they have better MA than males). Use every bit of MA boosting equipment, and you're good to go. There are a lot of other combos, which can become very fun, like using status inducing weapons with the Two Swords Support ability and the Counter skill (Nagrarock comes to mind, as well as Ancient Sword, Sleep Sword and Spell Edge), or Hamedo with a Gun (prevents long distance attacks...bye bye, you archers). Find your own to have the greatest fun and/or efficiency. |

I like using the wizard with calculate combo... But something I did was to put a mimic in the party, so he could mimic the wizard and do twice damage... I think you should try it, I played Tactics for more than 10 times and never found something better... It's just so great to finish battles in 2 turns without moving... Heh

hey guys, this isn't really about ability combos or anything but i had a question about hamedo. can someone please tell me the details on this ability? i seem to remember it not being like the other skills. i read somewhere that if you had high brave it would work just like all the other reaction abilities, but when i used it i don't think it ever worked, and i am pretty sure it NEVER worked against bosses.
anyway, if someone could tell me the deal with hamedo it would be nice, because it would be a damn fine thing to have if it worked when i wanted it to. |

It may be a damb combination, but my ramza was a black-time wizard. Mostly all other warriors had Item and some wizards had white magic.Except: My Agrias had white, Orlandu.... I havent decided but probably white too, a male summoner had time, and my ninja had steal

By the way, Hamedo is a Counter(Reaction) 1200 JP Monk ability which normally strikes enemy before he/she/it strikes u. I've never really tried it though

A favorite of mine was Blade Grasp. Damn near impossible for your characters to be hit physically with that. Especially if you used Praise enough times to get their Brave level up to 97. I think that every four times you used Praise on a single character in a battle, their Brave was permanently increased by 1. Something like that.
However, Blade Grasp didn't work for jack if and when you ran into a band of ninjas. I don't know how many times I got caught with my pants down while leveling up like that. It always hurt more when I had not saved in a while and ended up losing all of that sweet, precious progress. |

A really good combination is a Knight with the 2 swords abitily and having 2 elemental swords and all of the break skills and counter. That is a damage dealing machine!! It only works, though, when your brave level is extremely high, like 95ish. If you cast Innocent on him, he cannot be cured with magic, but he is immune to all other forms of magic, which would pretty much make him invincible, because he has armor and a high HP so he won't die too quickly.

To me, playing off inherent statuses is a plus in any situation, so I try to set equipment that has said effects as a first priority above stat gain. Say, for instance, that my female knight (which I do have, in fact) is going to do a couple solo battles to test out her durability.
Playing off logic, I would go through the five equipment slots and choose the best status-givers that I could find. With status-givers maximized, she'd probably turn out like this: Excalibur (Auto-Haste) Save the Queen (Auto-Protect) Grand Helmet Reflect Mail (Auto-Reflect) (or Robe of Lords, if that suits you) Chantage (Auto-Reraise, Auto-Regen) You've got a fully-fledged war machine with the above setup, and you can even mix things around to get more statuses, but I usually go with the vital ones above. The Seteimson, Ragnarok, and things of that kind don't get much play on my femmes. Choosing the correct combination of status-givers, in conjunction with good support and reaction abilities, can give you the upper hand in any battle situation. -------------------- It's gonna be a glorious day I feel my luck can change |

Concentrate with steal or battle skill is always nice.
Or giving a gun wielder battle skills is always a great way to weaken the enemies before they get a chance to get close in combat. And since guns have a nice chance to hit, it works out nicely. Edit Thought of two more... Two swords and battle skill. Twice the chances. Blade Grasp with 100 brave, berserked, attack up, Excalibur (for haste). Mean... Moderator Edit Please don't double post. If you think of two more immediately, please just edit your first post, like I have done for you here. -R51 This post has been edited by Rangers51 on 12th January 2005 16:59 -------------------- This is my world: (Got my second chapter up, 3rd Chapter about 80% complete) http://www3.sympatico.ca/daniel876/homepage.html |

A really good one is when you have Seal Evil with Mustadio and you give him the Oracle skill Undead (or Zombie, whatever it's called). Then you can turn all the enemies to stone and it ain't that hard, either.

Yeah, I found that Seal Evil never seems to be useful unless you're in certain locations, so I usually stick Ying-Yang magic on him as a secondary, just for kicks.

Counter and Secret hunt, that way you can poach enemies when you countered, if they die . If you poach a Zombie type monster it can´t "revive", very useful indeed don´t you think?
