well, something very interesting aspired at my school the other day.
i arrived at school to find the school was being searched by the police assisted by drug sniffing dogs. apparently what happened was the police had heard rumors and gained info that someone in the school was trafficking drugs.
So, I was in my spanish class at around 9:45. But outside, the police and their drug-sniffing pooches were outside the classroom surrounding this one locker. Our teacher was paranoid and wouldn't let us step outside the classroom. [24 students surrounding one door isn't that great] But anyway, they opened up the locker and found a  backpack with, what i figured out later to be, 20 grams of cocaine.
So here comes this kid to what he thinks is a trip to his locker. But when he saw the police around his locker, he ran. Of course he didn't get far. [Honestly, where can you run in a school?] So he's down at the police station but he'll probably be heading down to the capital to face a state court. I won't know anymore until the town newspaper comes out on Monday.

the moral of this occurance: don't mess with L Town police.... or don't get caught with a load of coke in your backpack, if you want to look at it that way. ^_^

lol, oh wow...not that I'd ever deal drugs, but if I were to, leaving them in a backpack in a locker that can be searched randomly would be the last place I'd leave it :-P This guy had it coming to him if he was that careless about it. And running too...

What you have to remember is that drugs effect the brain permenently, so these people don't normally do anything that clever. When I was in high school, you could tell all the pot smokers because they all eventually started to look the same, and they'd all stand in the same hall and stare blankly at the wall. Real clever people.

If that means what I think...no!  I'm not gonna think about it...

Ahem:  moving on...

I guess up in the hills where I went to high school we gotta reputation cause we had to deal with 'random' drug searches every other month and this one dude who had to take medication (not medicinal pot) always gave the dogs something bark about and he'd hafta head down to the office and explain himself every friggin time.

What's L Town?

Anyways, yeah the majority of people at my school just do whatever they want. I'd say 75% of juniors/seniors have smoked pot, and at least 90% drink (even people who you'd think wouldn't do it, do.) And it's not one of those misconceptions that some people say teens have, aka the "everyone does it" routine.

i feel sorry for police dogs..
for those who dont know, dogs are given drugs until they become
addicted to it so that they can smell it and quickly go to it
cause they need more of it..  :(

ok, where in the world did you hear that? over the summer, to gain community service hours for graduation, i volunteered at the police station. drug sniffing dogs go through about a 5 month training seminar type thing. They aren't fed drugs or forced to become addicted to the drug. They are trained to sniff out specific drugs. And once they find that drug, they are "rewarded" with their favorite chew toy [that's the motivation for the dogs to find the drugs] A dog's sense of smell is 10,000 times more powerful than the human nose so the dogs can smell anything relating to that drug, even if it's being covered up by other scents.
and if you don't mind, Monkey-wrench, I'd like to know where you heard that obviously false rumor.

Oh my god. This reminds me of a hilarious story. Earlier this year, the school cop searched a kid, and found a bag of weed on him. So the kid decided he would run. But first... he snatched the bag out of the cops hand and biffed it, made it across the street, outrunning the cop. (I had the pleasure of watching this from my 2nd period class) Soon though, 948328409328 police cars ran in and POW. Got him. I thought it was hilarious...

Regarding the dogs, well the way I understand it is that the chew toy that they are trained with actully has some sort of drug or another addictive type of narcotic on it so that the dog will as MW points out get addicted to it.  Or at least know the smell and want it.  I might be wrong on this but I read that it was done this way.  Of course the dog might not actully be addicted to it.

Hmm, it's possible that it's done like that in a few places, but generally it isn't "the way to do it".

You can train a dog to follow any smell, as has been said. It can be human, animal, a food, money, drugs, anything. Really, if they don't need to get addicted to something to find a human, why would they have to get addicted to find a drug? It just seems to make more sense that they just follow the smell and are rewarded in a typical fashion afterwards (chew toy, favourite treat, etc)

However it is quite possible that there are places that put the drug there, but most likely that is illegal, since there are very strict laws about what you can and cannot expose a dog or cat to.

I have to verify what Sabin said...  My half brother Tim is a cop out in California, and he had a German Shepard partner for 3 years until the dog was retired after an injury.  Tim still owns him and loves him.  I saw them do their thing together, it's amazing how much the dog loved that chew toy...   Tim put a little bit of pot in a mason jar in the trunk of a car all the way across a parking lot and Aico (the dog) found it in about 30 seconds, it was really amazing.  Aico is also an attack dog, Tim has had to turn him loose on suspects on the run several times - in each instance the dog had the guy down in about 10 seconds.  He's trained to kill or maim, but he really is one of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet when he isn't working.  A truly amazing animal.

Anyways, about the topic, I am glad the cops caught that kid.  Cocaine is really nasty stuff...  I don't know what kind of idiot would put something like that in their nose...  Most of the time dealers cut (mix) it with all kinds of crap - baking soda, soap, lye, even rat poison!  It's stuff like that that really steams my beans.

believe it or not, i actually sat down a couple months ago to write out a list of advice, tips, or random helpful things. and #19 on that list reads as follows.... --ahem--

"#19--- only idiots run."

and hearing about this only proves that fact. what kind of idiot brings a piece of Colombian export to school and expect to NOT get caught. And running? Yeah, that's smart. What a retard. Was he expecting do a little coke shoot between third and fourth period? And if he did, like the teacher wouldn't catch on {unless your school is full of really dense teachers  ;) } Was it show and tell day in Addicts Anonymous or something? Seriously, I want to know what possessed this kid to bring 20 grams of a highly illegal substance to a place that is literally a drug-free zone. And that's another thing bringing an illegal substance on school grounds and "Drug Free" teritory can't help his court hearing.
I end my rant on this note... DOGS' NOSES NEVER LIE! you take that to the bank! (actually, that's #78 on my list) I wish I was a dog...

anyway, the summary of my rant if you don't feel like reading that.... the way drug addicts think makes me pissed off. do i want to spend 100 bucks a gram for an illegal substance that will put me in the slammer for even having possession? Hell no! I actually have a life!

ahem... that concludes my rant... ^_^
