This is a Final Fantasy Tactics fanfic. I haven't gotten through the game, but I am submitting this fanfic because there don't appear to be any other FFT fictions out there. I can't really give you an estimate of how many chapters there will be, but I think it is a really cool story. The first part of my story will begin tomorrow or Friday. If anyone decides to read this story, please let me know if you like it or not in a seperate place.

Chapter One: Woes of a Former Noble
------------------------

Ramza stood in front of the altar in Orbonne Monastery, thinking to himself. He had just asked Agrias for some time alone in the monastery to relax.
"Go ahead, Ramza," she had said. "But I'm only giving you an hour."
An hour was more than enough time for Ramza; he only needed time to think. So many things were happening to him at once; it was very hard to think about anything when Gafgarion and Agrias were arguing their heads off right across you. Ramza had decided to leave them alone, as they looked as though they were on the brink of swearing at each other, and that would have made it even harder to think. He needed to sort out his feelings, especially the one that was most troubling him.
He could not belive Delita had joined the Nanten Knights. He was once so loyal to the Hokuten, and determined to protect the royal family. Why would he do something as low and as cheap as kidnap the Princess?
And then he thought about Ovelia herself. Would she be safe? Would she be killed? Whad does Goltana possibly want with her? Generally, he would not have been this preoccupied with onyone outside of the Beoulve family except Delita, but Ramza's feelings for Ovelia were much stronger than just friendship...
He had never loved anybody as strongly as he had loved Ovelia. Her abduction had caused two stong feeling to grapple with each other in Ramza's mind; his best friend was fighting for the enemy, and he had abducted the only person he had ever loved in his entire life.
But what would Ovelia ever see in him?
Another "advantage" to being a Beoulve, Ramza thought bitterly.
Dycedarg had once told Ramza that Beoulves had certain advantages that commoners don't, and now Ramza saw what he meant. If Ramza were still a Beoulve, it would have been easier to tell Ovelia how he felt about her; after all, they were both nobles, his was just a slightly lower form of aristocracy. But now, for all anybody knew, he was nothing but a commoner, Ramza Ruglia, who at the moment was struggling to manage what little bit of money he had brought with him upon leaving Beoulve castle.
So what would Ovelia possibly see in some poor, lowly commoner like him?
Don't think that, Ramza, he thought to himself, not all nobles other than Beoulves are the same; the nobility structure isn't all made up of a bunch of Alguses. Besides, your personal feelings don't matter now; your duty is to save the Princess, and you wont do that by just standing here moping....
But yet..... he could not help thinking about Delita...
He remembered when he was seven, and Balbanes was attempting to teach them how to play the reed flute. Delita learned quickly, having been given a good head start at five, but Ramza had had a bit more trouble with it. "I give up father! I just can't do it!" he had said, tossing the blade of grass on the ground and pouting. Delita had watched him struggling with it, and had plucked a new blade of grass for Ramza. "Here, let me help, Ramza," he had said, and he'd taught Ramza the technique his father had taught him, so Ramza would have less trouble with it.
He also remembered when him and Delita first started at the Academy, as teenagers. Ramza was a bit scared to go in at first, wondering what all the other kids would think about these two awkwardly thin teenagers. Delita had given him many words of encouragement, things like what kind of men they would be when they walked out of those doors and into the real world, until he gained the courage to walk through those doors.
Delita was his best friend then, had been with him through thick and thin..... but not anymore. Now he was fighting against the Hokuten, against the royal family, against Ramza.
Ramza turned... and found himself standing in front of the altar. While thinking about Delita, he had somehow forgotten it was there, and he stared at it as though the had never seen it before in his life. Still thinking about Delita and Ovelia, Ramza dropped to his knees and, under a sudden urge, began to pray.
God, please keep the Princess safe.
And Delita. Please keep him safe too...

Tears began to come from Ramza's eyes, no matter how much he retained them, and Ramza found himself on all fours a moment later. He could not help thinking about that few seconds in which Delita had appeared; when he took the Princess; and his last words to Agrias.
"...Dont blame us. Blame yourself or God."
"Delita," Ramza said to himself, well aware that he was speaking out loud and that the tears were streaming down his face like two rivers, but he did not care at the moment. "Why, Delita? Why did you kidnap the Princess? Why are you affiliated with Goltana? Why----?
"Sir Ruglia."
Ramza quickly wiped his face, got up, and turned to see who had spoken. It was Rad, his apprentice.
"Sir Ruglia, Lady Agrias requests your presence."
Ramza was angry with both Rad and Agrias at that point; it had only been 45 minutes! But Rad had nothing to do with it, and Ramza decided it would not be a good idea to argue with Agrias. So Ramza said, as politely as he could, "Thank you, Rad," and followed him out of the church.

Chapter Two: The Road to Dorter
----------------------

Ramza was surprised to see that he was glad to have left Orbonne early; what with Gafgarion and Agrias screaming at each other, he probably would not have been able to think any further anyway. He could tell they would both have been audible even with the door shut.
It was going to take a long while to get to Dorter from the monastery, so Ramza was sure they were going to stop and rest. That would be good, because then he would be able to release his troubles from his mind.

***

"All right, everyone. Let's go."
Agrias stood, ready and without fear. Alicia, Lavian, Gafgarion, Rad, and Ramza stood facing her with determined looks on their faces. At her order, they about-faced, and began to walk to Dorter.
Ramza was still preoccupied with the Princess. What could possibly be happening to her? Anybody could be doing anything to her at this point.
Oh please, just don't let her be dead...
He was so preoccupied that he was not paying attention to where he was going; at that moment, Ramza tripped over a stone in the middle of the road. He fell over and knocked down Lavian, who was right in front of him.
"Ouch! Ramza!"
"Sorry, Lavian, didn't see that stone..."
Ramza stumbled back on his feet, and helped pull Lavian up. He was heated now. God damn stone... shouldn't have been there while I was trying to think...
Agrias seemed not to notice; she, Gafgarion, Alicia, and Rad were still marching on. Highly embarrased, especially at the fact that something as small as tripping over a stone had gotten on his nerves, Ramza raced behind Lavian to catch up with the party.

***

Ovelia sat in the tent, her hands bound behind her, laying against the cloth wall. She wondered what this stange man would do with her, or even what he wanted with her. She thought he might kill her, but she did not like to think about things like that. So instead, she tried to find another reason for him abducting her.
She thought he was brave to try and demand a ransom, if that was what it was, especially with the Hokuten on constant watch for anyone suspicious-looking ever since the news had come out that she had been kidnapped. But before she could consider the matter even further, the flap of the tent opened.
Ovelia screamed.
The stranger had come back... and he was holding a knife!
When Ovelia screamed, the stange man clamped his hand over her mouth and tried to force her to turn around.
"Be queit... you're going to get us caught..."
"Why do I have to listen to you?! You're going to kill me!"
"No I'm not! I just tied this knot too tightly... I hate it when I do that..."
Ovelia finally stopped struggling, which allowed the stranger to cut the ropes binding her hands.
She turned to face him. The man was a bit taller than her, maybe about a two and a half inches shorter than Ramza, one of her guards. He had short brown hair, dark brown eyes, and he wore very attractive gold armor.
The sranger pointed at the exit. "Get out of here. I don't want to see you killed."
"But----"
"Why do you think I took you out of the monastery?" She hadn't noticed it when she was trying to get away from him, but the stranger also had a cool, calm, slightly flat voice, as though he always knew something someone else didn't, and was impatient that no one else knew by now. " I couldn't let the Hokuten get their hands on you. They don't wan't you alive. They belive that Orinas should be next in line for the throne. You are in the way."
"What? How? Why?" Ovelia was in shock.
"I can't tell you. That is all I know. Now get out, before the Hokuten arrive."
"But..."
Ovelia stopped suddenly. she saw a flash of light in the corner of her eye, like a fire... or a torch.
The stranger must have seen it too, because he yelled, "Damn it! I told you all that sreaming would get us in trouble!! Come with me!"
And taking Ovelia by the wrist, the stanger ran out of the tent.

***

Ramza sat watching the others sleep hours later. He could not sleep, as he was still thinking of Ovelia. He wondered where she was now, if she was still alive, if she was watching the same full moon he was...
Why couldn't he tell her before? Why couldn't he just say three words to her without his troat going dry? He felt even more embarrased now; just three words made him pratically stutter.
Trying not to think about that, he began thinking random thoughts.
How the world looks so much smaller on a map than in real life...
On a map of Ivalice, this journey only takes four minutes... but in the real world, it would take four days.

Sorry everyone, I don't know what's wrong with me, it's taking a while to finish this....

-------------------------
Chapter Three: Ramza's Diary
-------------------------

After reaching an inn in Dorter, Ramza decided to clear his mind using a diary. He had bought one in the shop to help him settle his feelings. This is the first page:

March 07, Dorter

We have just gotten to Dorter city. A group of theives ambushed us, however.
There were about six of them. One of them tried to stab me in the stomach. He failed, however, and ended up stabbing air.
I drew my sword and went in for the attack. He ended up dodging me, though. We must have been fighting for hours, mainly trying to outrun each other. Finally, I managed to slice him in half lengthwise.
I ran over to help Alicia, as two of the theives had surrounded her. She had already killed one by the time I got there, but the other was attempting to sneak up on her and stab her. I caught up with him, and sliced his head off from behind.
Agrias and Gafgarion needed no help with this. They were so fast that they'd killed three of them automatically. Agrias sliced one into little pieces as though she were a samurai, and Gafgation caught two of them at once with an interesting techniqe. He took one of the thieve's heads, cracked it, took the knife from the dead body, and stabbed the other one behind his back. Finally, Lavian and Rad together annihilated the last one, Lavian with a sword, and Rad with a mace.
I wonder, who would send a group of theives after us? I know someone wants to kill us all, but who? What do they even want with three knights, two mercenaries, and a soldier apprentice?
I still worry about Princess Ovelia. I pray for her safety. My worst fear is that she will be killed, if we don't act fast.
We have just one more place to go, before we finish our quest. We must get to Bethla Garrison. Agrias belives that is the only place Delita could have escaped to.
I belive that she is right, but i only hope that the Princess is save with him...

***

Delita and Ovelia were still racing almost aimlessly through a plain, attempting to escape the Hokuten. Ovelia wondered where this stranger could be taking her.
"Stranger... where... are we... going?
"We're going to Bethla Garrison. That's the only place we can go."
Ovelia knew about Bethla Garrison. She did not ask any other questions after that. Even though this man had so far kidnapped her and was dragging her away from the Knights who guarded her, she could not help feeling he could be trusted.

Thank you, Shotgun. (bows)

-----------------------
Chapter Four: Tracking Ovelia
-----------------------

March 09, campsite

We are camping at te edge of Araguay Woods. It is almost midnight. I feel kind of stupid, as I had just gotten us all into a fight with six goblins. There was a chocobo in the middle of the woods. It was being harrased by the goblins, and I just got all sympathetic and had to save it.
This ended up being a big hindrace, but I felt somewhat better about saving the chocobo.
The goblins attempted to give us a whole lot of trouble. The moment they saw us, they tried to surround us and atttack. I had a lot of trouble with two of them. They caught up with me and attempted to knock me out cold. I took out my sword and killed them both. Then I ran over to help Agrias, who was having a problem with a stubborn goblin who didn't want to die. It was trying to wrest Agrias's sword out of her hand. I ran over to try and help, but Agrias was too fast; she had already killed the goblin before I could do anything about it.
Alica, Lavian, and Rad seemed not to need any help at all. When the remaining goblins attempted to surround Gafgarion, all three of them ran in to attack. Rad easily killed the first with his mace, Alicia got the second with her sword, and Lavian and Gafgarion killed the last with their swords.
I still hope the Princess is safe, wherever she is. I always worry that she has been killed, but I must have more hope than that. I can't rescue her if I'm acting scared all the time....

***

Ovelia and Delita eventually stopped to rest at Zirkile Falls. Delita predicted that no one would be here until morning, so the two stood and took a break.
Ovelia was very worried that they would get caught, but she kept quiet; she did not want to speak until she had caught her breath. She had a very sharp pain in her chest from running so hard.
As soon as the sun had risen, the stranger beckoned to Ovelia to come, but before they had taken even one step, they heard a voice.
"Halt! Surrender the Princess and we'll spare you!"
The Hokuten Knights had caught them in their tracks.

I really am not enjoying it. The sentences are choppy, the story lacks detail, and the chapters are too short, which coincides with lack of detail. Work on these three things and you may be able to keep my interest going. Give it some more "umph:" elaborate on battles and dialogue. Use vivid language. Once again, take these suggestions to heart (or don't) and my opinion of it will greatly increase. smile.gif

Chapter Five: A Battle Well Fought
---------------

March 11, Zirekile Falls

The most unbelivable thing happened to us today. Gafgarion betrayed us. He was either a spy or just in with the kidnapping somehow, but I would never have belived that something like that would have happened....

Ramza's pen paused just at this line. He wanted to describe the battle, but didn't know where to start. He reviewed the battle again in his mind.

***

Counting Gafgarion, about six troops surrounded them. Agrias, in anger, had attacked Gafgarion at once, but he managed to block her with his sword. Ramza ran after Agrias and tried the same reckless attack, but he messed up, when he let out a wild warcry, and Gafgarion tripped him before he could do anything.
Rad ran straight after a knight on the other side of the falls, and killed him in an instant. But another knight caught up with him, and attempted to run him through with his sword. But Rad, being smart, blocked this attack. The most confusing thing happened after that; after blocking the knights attack , Rad tried to stab him, which would have been successful if the knight hadn't parried Rad at that moment. The knight then tried to push Rad into the falls.
Delita and Lavian both caught this, and ran at the knight full speed. "Not so fast!" they cried, and they both hit him with a pure assault, and both managed to kill him by driving thier swords through his head.
Gafgarion was a tough opponent. He managed to somehow always block or dodge Ramza and Agrias's attacks, and showed almost no mercy when he got the chance to attack. Lavian ran to Gafgarion's side and attempted to help; she disabled Gafgarion slightly by banging the hilt of her sword into his sholder. But he wasn't going to give up that easily, and he swung at Alicia with his free arm, knocking hber sword out of her hand. Alicia attempted to get it back, but a knight who had lost his sword in the water snached it up from off the ground, and tried to kill Alicia.
Ramza had no choce. "Hey, Alicia!"
"What?" Alicia turned.
"Here, catch." He took off his sheath, sword still in it, and tossed it to Alicia. She caught it.
But....?"
"Don't worry about me!" Falling upon the basic tactics he would have used as a military cadet, he grabbed the thickest stick he could find and snuck up on Gafgarion as he and Agrias continued to duel.
Meanwhile, Delita, Lavian, and Rad were still attacking the remaining two knights on the other side of the river. However, surpisingly, they would not be defeated that easily. One of the knights kicked Lavian's sword out of her hand and into the river. However, Lavian was much too smart to be disabled that quickly. Within an instant, she had developed an interesting tactic to distract the knight; she had ran a broken triangle around him as he tried to slice her, and punched him directly in the ribs. This disabled him enough to give Delita time to run him through the heart.
Rad was busy on the second knight. He ran behind him and tried to kill him, but the other two knights, along with the target knight, surrounded him in a tight circle. Delita, having noticed this, ran up to one of the knights and cut him in half, lengthwise, and Rad tripped the other two and, with Delita's help, killed them both.
Unnoticed by anyone, Gafgarion, Agrias, and Ramza continued to fight, Ramza attempting to attack from behind with the stick, Agrias just trying to cut his head off.
Gafgarion, having succeded in damaging Agrias and Ramza greatly, got very smug at just that moment, as Agrias fell to the ground exaustion.
"I knew it! Neither of you could have ever really defeated me!!"
Oh yeah? Ramza thought. He crept up on Gafgarion slowly as he continued to mock the tired Agrias. When he got close enough, he banged the stick really hard into Gafgarion's neck, causing him to fall over in pain, and knocking his sword out of his hand, and Ramza dropped the stick and snached it up, banging Gafgarion in the back with the hilt as he tried to get up.
Gafgarion muttered, "R..retreat!" and crawled away. Agrias tried to go after him, but Ramza stopped her.
"Let him go, Agrias. We'll catch up with him one day."

***

After having thought about these events, Ramza smiled. He knew just where to start.
Agrias was really angry, of course. She tried to attack Gafgarion, but he dodged her.....

*EDITED*

Hope this chapter is better than the other ones. The rest of the story did kind of suck, now that I look at it.

P.S. I finally got Mustadio! And Agrias too!!!! Yay!!! thumbup.gif

For the love of god, use a spell-check! I'm dead serious, it's hard to take something seriously when it's riddled with very, very obvious typos or spelling mistakes ("werds"?) wink.gif

It's interesting, but the action is a little lacking. He trips Gafgarion after sneaking up on him? Frankly, if some guy were out to get me and I had a chance to sneak up on him, I'd bash his head in with a rock, not trip him. wink.gif

It's not too bad, but could use a little work. Far better than most stuff I've seen, though.

Baytrayed? Ans? I must be an idiot!! How could I possibly make sooo many typos when I'm only using one finger to type?!?!
Besides that, you are right, Silver; I need to work a bit more on acton. The example you gave was perfect; Ramza had a stick. He could have clocked Gafgarion over the head with it and let Agrias kill him! But at least I got it slightly right when Ramza hit Gafgarion in the back... I think... wacko.gif
Anyway, next chapter coming soon, however I will not have it posted immediately; so wait a while. happy.gif

---------------
Chapter Six: Saving Mustadio
---------------

Ramza and the others once again packed up the tents, and the six of them headed to Lionel Castle, by common decision.
Ramza was still preoccupied with Ovelia, even though they had rescued her already, and he kept staring at her throughout the whole trip, trying to say something to her, but looking away whenever she looked behind her.
Then, just as he was about to say something to her, Agrias stopped them.
"Something strange is going on there. Someone's ambushed that young man..."
Ramza looked ahead; there was, indeed, a young man being harrassed by soldiers. Ramza stopped thinking about Ovelia for that one second as a new thougt took over his mind.
"We can't just leave someone in trouble! If we don't help him, he'll be killed!"
Agrias tured to him. "Fine then. Let's help him!"
And with that, the party rushed into battle. Rad, Alicia and Lavian climbed over the wall, while Agrias and Ramza chose to go through the archway. Ovelia, however, stayed behind.
Agrias ran staight to the first soldier she saw, and, aiming for his stomach, tried to run him through with her sword. However, the soldier dodged her attack, cornered her and they ended up in what looked like a more severe version of a sparring match, each trying to kill the other.
Ramza was also caught up in a fight with another soldier; however, Rad, Alicia, and Lavian were surrounded by the rest of the knights. They were a lot stronger than any of the three of them, and it seemed as though they would be defeated for sure.
The young man, called Mustadio, relieved at first that someone had come to help him, noticed that his rescuers were in danger. He wanted to escape with the Holy Stone as fast as he could and leave these people to fight, but he felt that that would be wrong. They did come to save him, after all, and if they hadn't noticed that he was in trouble, he would have been killed for sure. It would't be right to leave them to die when they had gone out of their way to try and rescue him.
And so, with those thoughts, he stood on the wall and aimed at one of the four soldiers surrounding Rad, Alicia, and Lavian. It was a good thing he'd found this gun in the mines, or he wouldn't have been able to help his rescuers. Since finding it, Mustadio had developed a sharp eye, and it would be useful here, as he needed to get in a good shot point-blank into one of the solidiers' heads.
Meanwhile, the four soldiers smiled menacingly at their prey. They were just in the middle of killing the helpless knights and squire when suddenly...
BANG!
With a sound like gunpowder exploding, one of the soldiers stood as though petrified for ten seconds flat, then he fell face- up on his back.
Ramza and the soldier he was fighting with heard the blast, and turned to see where it had come from. Ramza had thirty seconds tho wonder, What is that thing?, before the soldier came to his senses and disarmed Ramza, who wasn't paying attention.
After feeling his sword fly out of his hand, Ramza turned, and saw the soldier grinning at him in an evil way. He then attempted to cut Ramza in half width-wise.
Ramza dodged this, and then, being devoid of a better weapon, took his diary out of his pocket and knocked the soldier unconcious with it.
Lucky I put metal sheets under the cover for good luck, Ramza thought, opening the diary and tossing said sheets onto the ground. He then took the sword from the sheath of the unconcious soldier and ran it through his head.
Meanwhile, Agrias was still tangled in a fight with one of the soldiers. Alicia decidedly ran to help Agrias, leaving Rad and Lavian alone with the other three knights, and ran the sword through his head lengthwise.
Rad and Lavian attempted to fight the three other knights, but they only managed to mortally wound two of them. However, the young man interviened again, and killed all three of the knights with three blasts.
Ramza, shocked by the three gunshots, and who happened to be standing by the well at the time, jumped... and dropped his diary down the well.
"Damn!" he exclaimed.
"What's wrong?" Agrias asked, having heard Ramza's angry yell.
"Nothing, Agrias, nothing..."
He walked over to the young man at that point, in an attempt to forget about the fact that he had just thrown his diary down a well.
"Are you okay?" he asked the young man.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks for your help."
"What's your name, anyway?" Ramza asked him.
"I'm Mustadio Bunanza," he said. "I'm a mechanic."
"What's a mechanic?"
Mustadio shook his head. "I'll tell you later."

*EDITED*

Again, I hope you like this chapter better than the previous ones.

Chapter Seven: It Almost Ended Perfectly Well
-------------

Ramza lay on the floor of an abandoned house much later, turning over every thought in his mind. Since most of them were recent bad memories, he blocked them all out, and concentrated on only one thing: Ovelia.
He had been pondering over how to tell Ovelia his feelings. He never thought it would ever be so hard. He had never wanted to tell anybody anything so badly, nor had he ever felt this way before. It was almost like torture, to have such feelings and yet try so hard to hide them.
Well, that wasn't going to happen today. He was going to tell her; it was now or never. He felt like he'd die if he didn't get it out of him...

***

That night, when everyone lse was about go go to sleep, Ramza made his decision. He was going to tell her, tonight; he wasn't going to just let this slide. If he did, it would mean more trauma.
Without the slightest sound to give away where he was going, he crept upstairs, past Rad's room, past Lavian's... to a door that was still ajar.
And there she was, sitting on her bed, twirling a hairpin in her hand.
"Er... Princess?"
She looked back up at him, looking just as a princess should look. "Yes?"
"Well, I wanted to tell you... that I... I..."
He knew what was about to happen before it happened: he would keep stuttering, change the subject, and just let it hang again.
However, somehow Ovelia knew what he was about to say beforehand. She didn't know how she knew, she just knew.
"Ramza, I already know what you're about to say." Ramza gulped---"And I have to tell you, I just don't love you back."
Ramza, without bowing his head, stared at the floor. That had been just the answer he was dreading.
Ovelia couldn't find anything to say to him to make him feel better. All she could offer him was, "Don't worry; I'm not the only girl in Ivalice. I'm sure you'll find another." Then, to make him feel better than anything, she kissed him on the cheek before he left.

***

Ramza walked out of the room, feeling both sad and relived. He felt sad that Ovelia did not share his feelings; on the other hand, he felt relieved that his secret was out at last.
And she kissed him... it was only a cheek kiss, but she still kissed him.... he felt a lot better now, and he retained this feeling through to the next day, when they set off once again.

*EDITED*

Okay everyone, the story's all done; feel free to either congradulate me on my artisticness, or beat me with a metal pipe and tell me that this story is a mockery unto an amazing game from an amazing series, and that I should be thrown in a Hudson River full of piranas for even daring to post it...
I would also like to tell you, I liked writing this story so much that I may write another one after I finish FFT, set a year or so after the game ended.

I haven't played FFT, so I don't know the storyline, if anyone's in character, etc. I read a little of it, and read the comments other people have been making.

This is still in progress, right? What I suggest you do is go through each chapter and make edits, spell-check, etc. When you've edited a chapter, mark *EDITED* somewhere on it (top or bottom), and then I'll look through it. For future chapters, put it through a spell-checker first.

I hope you finish and edit this, it'd be nice to have a good FFT fanfic on the site. :-)

blush.gif Ehehehe... I've already edited this. It's done. Sorry. *flinches*

Anyway, I'll mark the chapters now.

EDIT: The comment above was meant to say that I was still editing along the way.
