So Kefka is a loony. He was the first magitek knight and lost his mind.

What do you think he was like before the unfortunate incident?

Did he always wear make up? Did he always like those freaky clothes? Was he always odd or did the experiment just add a "destroy the earth" mentality to his head?

I mean, Ghesthal is pretty freaky too. But I would imagine that he was always messed in the head and power hungry. What do you think?

I think kefka was probably a bit of a wildcard to start with, but very effective at his job and loyal to the emperor's quest for power. I'm not calling him a "Leo", but I'd say that he would rather do what it takes to win, rather than taking the honorable path in a fight if it meant a quick win. The magitek incident probably just amplified his homicidal & rebellious tendancies to the point where he wanted more and more power for himself. He probably wore something similar to leo's outfit, I'd imagine.

I agree with Keith, my reasoning is that you don't become a madman overnight. I think that kefka was always a power mongering, hateful, sadist. I think the only change in Kefka has to do with the addage "power corrupts". All we know is that he changed with the infusion. Kefka became more powerful as soon as Cid exparimented on him. From what I saw in the WOB all Kefka wanted was power. After he got said power his ambitions changed again, this time to destroy the world and everything in it. What I am saying is that Kefka's condition has become worse with the more power he got.
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
I.E. once Kefka had the chance to get the power of the Godesses, he threw Ghesthal over a cliff. Especaly proving my point because Ghestal tried to prevent the inccident. When Kefka had the power to get more power, despite the costs to his king, he took it. He didn't show any disobedience to Ghestal before that.
Cid was only one step to a very rotten path, one that Kefka was aready started on. Kefka was already corrupt, the power only added to his corruption

I never saw him as wearing make-up. I am probably one of the only people who hasn't. His character sprite doesn't look like it has make-up, only his monster sprite does. I think that is his monster sprite is his shadow and not Kefka himself. That is because of the battle with General Leo and the quotes said within. Also I don't think the FMV sequnces are anything to go by, after all in them Terra's a blonde. Everybody knows she has green hair. Or do they. . . ? As for Kefka's like in bright colors. . . I think it is only fair to say that Kefka, Gogo and Bannon had simmilar tastes. I think it might be a FFVI world thing, not a Kefka specific thing. So the answer would probably be yes, he did like all of those clothes before.
Edit
I would like to add that Kefka is my favorite video game villain. I think he just about tops everybody in sophistication and depth. He has great personality for a mad man. Not to mention he has great quotes and an unbeatable, manaical, laugh.

Didn't in the Jap. version (I can't remember if it was in the retranslation or not, so I may be mixing things up) it say that he also didn't start hating everyone until after the infusion? Based on that I'd say he became completely corrupt afterwards, not just more corrupt. Also, just by saying he "snapped" leads me to believe that something drastic about him changed. It's quite possible he went from being an everyday nice guy (kinda Leo-ish) to an experiment gone awry descending into madness. Afterwards I think it would've been easy for Gesthal's ambitions to rub off onto him, at least until his insanity drove him to destroy everything.

I always thought there was a greenish tint to her hair in the FMVs, sorta like blending the concept art and her sprite or something. Still, I think based on both the artwork and the battle sprites we can pretty much conclude Kefka wears makeup. The in-game sprites aren't exactly the most detailed representations of the characters. They don't show them having mouths either (except when they're laughing, etc.) but we know they have them. smile.gif

Anyways, I don't think he always dressed like that. When you're insane you have an excuse though, right? Besides, I always thought the get-up made him look like nobility or something, probably to suit his ego. That wouldn't have come until after the infusion, nor would the rank of general, so I assume he dressed the same way all the other lowly soldiers did: lots 'n' lots of brown.

Kefka a nice guy. . . My brain hurts tongue.gif . I remember reading a topic somwhere in the archives. Somebody (can't remember who) said in the japanese manual it gave a little info on Kefka. I don't trust manuals or stratagy guides much but it could be accruate info. I will post the quote if I find it. I hope that info helps Silver Fork.

Edit
Here is the quote. Interestingly it was yours Silver Fork so it doesn't help like I thought it would. The topic was on vital statistics.:

Quote
I know the Japanese manual gave a hell of a lot more info on characters, even as far as including more background info on minor characters and Leo's and Kefka's rivalry.  That may be where all that originated from (even though I don't remember any vital statistics being listed), although I haven't a clue as to why they vary from site to site, but from what I've read the ages are always consistent.

There's also a site out there I read once that listed each character's hobbies (sorta like the likes and dislikes on that first site you listed) but I can't remember where/what it was.
This brings an interesting point that Leo and Kefka may have had a bad history. I wonder what it could be?

I don't think he was actually "nice". That just doesn't fit well. Even if he had an accident that made him go bocko, it couldn't have completely changed his person. I imagine he was dark and broody before the accident, maybe somewhat loyal to the Emperor, but to go as looney and treasonous as he was he'd have had to had a sectret motivation to somehow plot against the Emporer in the first place.
That's just my opinion.

Well, I did a search and all I could find is Sky Render's manual translation...

Quote
Cefca is an interesting yet sad character, in many ways. He was the first Shogun to be infused, but the process was not yet perfected. The procedure destroyed Cefca's mind, and he became a completely different person, warped in both mind and body. His hatred for Leo is unsurpassed, as Leo was the only Shogun who didn't receive infusion, and Cefca blames him for his own loss.

I thought there was more, but oh well...

And in regards to being "nice", he may not have been in the word's more literal form. I mean, even Shadow seems like a "nice" guy compared to that. tongue.gif

I agree with Sherick and SF, I think he was probably something of an ambitious individual (you don't exactly get to be a General anyway without some ambition tongue.gif) and maybe a little different... maybe brooding, maybe dark, maybe actually quiet or amiable in a way, but the game makes it pretty clear that he snapped in the infusion, implying that his character made a 180 overnight.

This is all just speculation anyway, the only people that really know are the game's writers. =P We can argue all day long 'til we're blue in the face, but that's what it comes down to: we just don't know, and all we have really are opinions without those people saying so.

Sheesh, what a way to stop a discussion. Sounds like something I would do. tongue.gif
Anywho I think that he wasn't nice , but wasn't insane either. I think that he was originally as power hungry as Gestahl, and when he was infused, he completely insane. So, instead of a 180 from what he was, his madness was amplified.

By the way, Kefka wears make-up in the original Amano art, to my knowledge.

I think the infusion essentially spurred his insanity. He may have been evil beforehand, but the augmentation made him crazy. That's the idea that seems to most fit, as it really underlines the evil of the Empire's experiments.

I always thought Kefka was probably a bit of a brat. He seemed like he'd be the kind of kid you'd just want to kick. The sort of kid who trows rocks at kittens and is always teasing someone. However, I think pre-augmentation he was to cowardly to really try and snatch any power. In my opinion, the magic incident removed his inhibitions. With that kind of ability, who cares about a conscience!? So baisicaly, I figure he was always a bit demented. The magic just let the "True Kefka" come out.

As for the clothes and makeup, I figure Kefka probably wore flashy, noble-like clothes in the past, but the makeup? No.

I'm going to plug Mogmaster's story for Kefka's decent for various good reasons. An actual written story on Kefka's history...

I also doubt Kefka wearing makeup.

On the question of his personality before the infusion, I don't think he was evil beforehand, nor do I think he was the kind of "good guy" Leo was. I imagine he was a sort of happy medium, like most people you would run into are, with a heavy dose of arrogance. His wardrobe is like Renaissance nobility, like that one thread covered. No one dresses like he does, so it seems pretentious can be added to arrogant.
Kefka's not crazy. People of power and riches (like Kefka probably was) can never be. He's eccentric.

Last I checked my story made him a jerk pre infusion....

He just became pure evil post infusion.

Just my interpretation of it.

I always thought he had some subconsious plan to take over the world but didn't do it, before he wasn't evil, but on the line of evil and good. Then when the infusion took place, he cracked and became the villan everybody knows and hates, the Clown-like Kefka.

You must mean everyone that knows and loves! The only thing I hated about him was how fruity he dressed. But I always liked how he cut right to the chase and took the seriousness out of destroying the earth. He had a nac for taking the most intense part of the game and bringing dark humor to it.

Look at his end speech. It started off all serious then he basically went "What's up with that?" He has a dark logic to his thought process.

I think its safe to say that Kefka was a lot more intreasting evil figure then any other main villian of any game. For instance he was not affected by glory or pride this can be proven becuase he poisned Doma for a free easy victory. and that laugh... is the most awesome sound ever to come from any villain ^^

I'm going to be *really* daring here and link to GameFAQs:

The link which links.

Granted, it takes a different approach to Kefka then this topic does, but it's worth your time to read. Mainly because I don't rant often these days wink.gif
