What do you all think about Kingdom Hearts? Also, do you think that the new GBA Kingdom Hearts game, Chain of Memories, would be a good introduction to the series when it comes out? I just wanted to know because I wanted to get Kingdom Hearts, but I only have a PSone.

I am not sure, but I think you should get the one for PS2 first. It introduces you to the beginning of the story and the main characters, so I think it would be better to get to know the PS2 first.
I think it is a great game, it's even better if you spend your childhood watching Disney films and now you are spending your teen age playing FF games.
The game play is good and the graphics and music are great. It is a highly recommended game, but if you can't stand Disney characters, then, you won't enjoy it completely, since Disney references are all over the game.
Also, it has Final Fantasy things like the spells ( Fire, Fira, Firaga, Stop, Cure, Blizzard, Cure, etc. ) and some NPC ( Cloud, Aeris, Yuffie, Squall, etc.)
The battle system is easy to understand. You only control Sora ( the main character) while the others are computer controled. Even with that, I find them very smart.
Also, there are some mini games and shooting sequences ( on an airship ).
The voice acting is good ( I just love Donald's voice acting ).

I give it a 9 / 10. Some parts were kind of confusing ( specially the sequence in the ocean ) but it was a great game. Highly recommendable. I bought my PS2 just to play this game n_n thumbup.gif

Enrique, if u like Donald's voice acting, you should hear Goofy in japanese.

Kingdom Hearts has a really cute story (if you can get off the first island without falling asleep), and the battle is entertaining...mostly. It has a few camera angle and AI issues, but, overall, I thought it was fun.

From what I understand, KH, KH:CoM and KH2 form a story arc in that order, so I think you'd want to start at the beginning.

Well, aside from a few bad camera angles, the Gameplay/Battle system was pretty good (reminded me somewhat of Star Ocean 2). However, the story IMO sucked, the voice of Sora was pretty annoying, and the characters from both Franchises were poorly interpreted. Allow me to rant on the third one:
Cloud gets stepped on by Cerberus, he's more of a badass than that

Mickey a... ninja? Even though Ninjas are cool, it just doesn't suit Mickey

Lets face it, Goofy probably shouldn't be one of the main fighting characters... Though i'd be cool if Donald was a tank or something, and he went into some sort of Berserk mode

Though, I like the name Leon better than Squall, I think it suits him better.

Overall, the game needed a "few" tweaks

I never miss a opportunity to badmouth this game.

I think it was smoke and mirrors... the smoke being the hype of "teh best roleplay series in teh world combined with teh best animation company in teh history is making a game!!!!!"..... and the mirrors being the nice graphics and eye candy the game contained.

The game was crap, in my opinion. From the biggest flaw (the concept) to how the game operated. A thorough disappointment.... one of which I am not looking forward to the sequel.

Mickey isn't a ninja. He just sports a Keyblade like Sora.

Anyhoo, I've beaten KH and am currently working on CoM right now (I'm near the end, I believe) and should have it finished by the time KH2 comes out.

Do any of you know when KH2 comes out, btw?

I haven't played it yet, but it looks awsome and I want a PS2 soon to play that and KHII. The new info for the game, like the fusing, organization, and the "Steamboat Willie" and "Pirates of th Carribiean" levels make me really want that game. The Tron level, not so much. But hey, it could work.

Dec. in Japan, Spring in America. Don't know for Europe. Go to the KHII from wikiwiki thread for a lot of KHII info.

I thought KH was a very solid game, one I enjoyed quite a bit. I'm one of those people who just doesn't understand how someone can DISLIKE Disney (and by that I mean their older work, not their relatively new case of sequelitis), so obviously that didn't turn me away. Since the FF characters weren't why I bought the game, I didn't really mind the fact that they didn't serve very large roles. The gameplay was a little button-mashy, but still employed a fair bit of strategy into its combat, and the genius that thought of menu-based commands in real-time should be given a muffin, since the odd combination actually ended up ridding the game of the "OMG which button does which?" confusion that surrounds many action RPGs that have many different attacks. The camera wasn't really as bad as most critics say it is, but it needed work.

The production values were high, and the result was fantastic. The story, while simplistic, breached upon some rather intriguing themes that will probably be explored further in KH2, and the three main characters (I mean Sora, Riku, and Kairi. Goofy and Donald don't count) were interesting and had realistic motivations.

The main goof that I had is that it often felt somehow "fake," like the Alice in Wonderland world (except that world was SUPPOSED to seem fake), where it seemed (most noticably in Agrabah) that you were merely running around in a big box that LOOKED like a location, instead of actually being immersed in a virtual invironment. Were it not for this "boxed-in" feel, this would be one of my favorite games.

However, I'm pretty sure that KH2 WILL be one of my favorite games, mainly because I was so interested in the themes presented in KH and CoM (which I didn't play...) like the Heart, Memories, and the three "planes of existence" (Light, Dark, and Twilight). Most notably the nonexistants. It seems like it might go a little overboard though... whatever. I'm eagerly anticipating its release.

i got the game for christmas, after having to watch my friends try and fail miserably to kill sephiroth laugh.gif

i wonder if the aristocats will be in a future one? such adorable kitties... wub.gif

overall, i think the game is very fun, with a great story to go. (then again, i dont like to critisize anything, so...)

plus, vivi and setzer will be in the second one!!! yay!!

although now i know the dissapointing real pronunciations of "tidus" and "yuffie"... mad.gif

I couldn't get into KH because of the Disney theme. I have been told, by many people, that this is one of the greatest RPG/Adventure games ever made, and that I have to get past the Disney theme and play it because it's awesome. Despite the fact that I respect the gaming opinions of most of these people, I still find it hard to get past Donald and Goofy joining your party. There is also the fact that one of the most badassest characters of all time, Sephiroth, is voiced by Lance Bass of N'Sync. That is just plain wrong. They should have sent him into space before this became possible.

But I think I'll give KH a second chance. I know the new one just came out in Japan, and supposedly it is also getting rave reviews. Before it reaches American shores I might go back and revisit KH1, as I've now heard great things about both games.

Woah! Light, Dark, and Twilight? Sounds a little like Chrono Cross... I had no idea that Christy Carlson Romano played the voice of Yuffie... total mindblow. Kingdom Hearts looked like crap 2 years ago when I had seen the review on Disney Channel. I tried it at my friends and loved it instantly, I can't wait for KH2, as I've beaten both games. I also have heard you go back to Twilight Town, The Underworld, and King Mickey is on your party. And you get to fight alongside Auron from FFX!!! awexome!
