I've been thinking about it a bit, and reached the conclusion that CoN is shooting itself in the foot with the Rumors section here. Some people will miss the fact it's a game rumor, thus inherently false, and post a topic here. People whine and it gets closed by a mod.

I know that the first response is "It's so darn obvious, we shouldn't be removing something just because some have less IQ than I have fingers".

But in the end there will still be people posting about Shinryuu. If not here, than somewhere else, and I think it hurts the CoN image.

So why do you keep this thing around? As this is the Comments and Suggestions forum, I Suggest you remove it.

Personally, I don't think it's worth removing a section that so many people find funny simply because some people can't read. I don't think it should be ruined for most people because some people are dumber than tree stumps.

I don't even see how the post you quoted is evidence that it should be removed, honestly. Just a difference of opinion, I'm sure. Tiddles has just added a larger "idiot" tag for those who don't get it, but it still won't catch everyone.

To me, that's not so bad. Look, if people are stupid enough to a) believe everything they read and B) not even ask at the source, but instead post at some other forum, that's hardly my fault, is it?

Again, in all honesty, I have mulled over removing the rumours page for a very long time. The reason is not that people aren't smart enough to read the disclaimer - it's that we have limited time as you all know, and adding new rumors (or even getting new rumor submissions that are written in any form of decent English) is time consuming and takes away from tasks that are far more important to the site, like fanart, fanfics, new data, revised data, etc. That's why it hasn't been updated in a year.

Is it damaging to the image of the site? I don't know. Is Testper? Or is it just indicitive of having a sense of humor about what we're doing here? I see it as such - having just a data-driven site can be so boring sometimes, and I think there are a few people who find such little jokes funny. We don't act like it's God's truth, so it shouldn't hurt our credibility, should it? Even before we started admitting that Testper was fake (OMG HE IS?!?!), people with any sort of grasp on the site could tell that our tongues were firmly in cheek throughout the whole thing.

That's my stance on it - I find people who slag CoN on other forums or on their own sites to be more damaging to CoN's reputation than little jokes like this. Seems to me that people commenting on how fascist we are here spread poison more thoroughly than the rumours page. Or is this just a situation where whatever we do, CoN loses? I'm sure for every person who would rejoice if we took that section down, there is another who would point to it as illustration that people shouldn't come here because we have no sense of humor.

This is a long-winded rant, I realize, and probably more than a bit tangental, but I hope you can get where I'm coming from.

Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN?

I consider myself a pretty experienced net-traveller, and I have never, ever seen a private site or forum thread or entry that bashed the CoN. Let's face it..... the CoN is above reproach.

I dig the rumors section, myself... though I understand Dji's reasoning.

Because for those that see them elsewhere will now KNOW that they aren't true. Mebbe if more sites had rumor sections there wouldn't be anyone trying to revive certain dead characters. =P

They're also fun to read. How these people manage to MISS the fact they're rumours is beyond me...I don't even know how these people manage to get online.

The reason I posted this because, quite frankly, is that I don't personally understand the reason for this section to be around period. A rumor section, in my opinion, is inherently not funny. Not bashing the contributors here, but if it's a good joke than I just don't get it.

I see that other people have other opions, and I respect that and all. This is the Suggestions thread, and that's all it was.

Now Testper, that's one joke I do appreciate.

These people don't just bash because they don't like this site's name. They bash because, for instance, they think it has a pointless rumor section.

But anyway, I threw up the question and it seems I'm pretty much the only one who thinks it was a worthwhile one. Closed this topic will spend the rest of its life. Those who want to debate any further can find me in chat.
