I really don't ever use him. Never found him to do enough damage compared to things like Bum Rush or offerng/genji glove.

I am pretty neutral about using Setzer...
Sometimes, his slot and dats can be a real lifesaver..and others, a real bore. He kinda like snake eyes on a pair of dice, theylle work, but its a pretty good hit-or-miss. ![]() -------------------- <DrkMagimaster282> MWAHAHA. I can't say I have ever used Setzer...ever. I don't even think I bought/used any of his weapons, so I wouldn't be able to say anything about the fixed dice/offering combo. I just relied on Gogo and Umaro to carry my team.

Like Locke Setzer isn't a bad character but his fighting ability leaves something to be desired. Consistant attacks like 7-Flush are ok right when you get him but as the game goes on his slot moves really fall behind in attack power compared to what the best characters are capable of. Equally important are his poor stats. Here's how he ranks up to the other characters in a head-to-head comparison (14 characters total):
Vigor: 8th Speed: 10th Stamina: 6th Magic Power: 9th M.Block: 12th His stamina is barely above average while everything else is below average. So we're talking about a below average fighter with an average special ability. The thing with these weak fighters is, you can still play through the game with little difficulty while using them because the game difficulty is so lacking. It's as if the game was designed for weaker characters but somehow in the process some characters ended up being overpowered. That would explain being able to kill bosses in 2-4 hits. I don't think that was the original intention. -------------------- FFXI (Siren server) Tauu the Windurstian Tarutaru! White Mage & Paladin |

He's pretty useless. I never use him. You get him too late in the game, and unlike mog, he just isn't furry, cute, or strong enough to care about.

I'm undecided about setzer. He's a cool guy, seems a bit shrouded by mystery when you find him. Sure, his stats are physically weak, but he gets two defence-ignoring weapons specifically for him, as well as the ability to use some great dirks. The majority of his card or dart attacks have a slaying-on-hit property (which can be a total pain in daryl's tomb). He can wear pretty good armor, *and* due to the esper system, it doesn't really matter what his starting stats are because you can customize him however you want. You could give him 100 vigor and 50 speed, maybe up his magic power a bit if you want.
However, I never liked how his sprite looked in-game that much. Maybe its the scraggly long hair. Who knows. His suit is hella cool, but he's *got* to do something about that hair! ![]() Beyond using him to get the airship, I don't tend to use him much though. I find slot too unreliable, and GP rain attack weak (as well as the obvious losing money part). That leaves him with the option of using the "fight" command or levelling him with "+2 magic" espers so that he can do decent damage with magical spells. Hmm, I like his character. Crazy goth. Anyone who hangs around under graves is a goth. Anyone who puts a whole AIRSHIP under there is a crazy goth. ^-^
As for using, he's on my alternative character roster with the likes of Umaro so he'll pretty much be around 5-10 levels behind my better characters. So... I'm neutral. -------------------- The Arcana are the means by which ALL is revealed. |

It all depends on your personal skill with his Slots and your knowledge of how it works. To me, every attack he can do is as easy as selecting it from a menu, and Sun Flare and H-Bomb, free random summon and Joker Doom, Setzer is a monster.
His stats and equipment leave much to be desired, though, and GP Rain is so useless it hurts the brain. And as far as the Fixed Dice/Offering combo goes... UGH. -------------------- |

Quote (Keith @ 9th October 2004 14:44) Patched game, or is there some secret way of fixing the slot machine to always return a result? It could be either. Check my site, you can either eliminate the rigging through a patch or learn to screw the game over with the Slot guide. Edit Dji, you forgot Chocobop. That spell's a ground-based Meteor with nothing stopping you from selecting it at any time. That's a pretty evil skill I'd say. I forgets nothink. Why settle for a ground-based meteor when you have Bahamut? Bahamut will only appear once (as I'm too lazy to check what is needed for a second 'perfect' rigging, assuming there is any available after a single easily accessible spell), true, but that's usually all what it takes.
Edit Oh, and the game wasn't patched. ZED gave the world some sweet things, but I think his Slot Guide is the best so far. This post has been edited by Djibriel on 9th October 2004 20:27 -------------------- |

Quote (Djibriel @ 9th October 2004 15:18) Why settle for a ground-based meteor when you have Bahamut? Because Chocobop doesn't need to be set up at all (one turn instead of two minimum), and it's virtually guaranteed after the first slot, zero timing issues. Basically, yes, Bahamut can do its job better, but Chocobop is quicker about it. Edit And speaking of the Slot guide, I'm working on a pure text version. I'm not sure why I'm doing it other than uploading it to G'FAQs, but I am. ![]() This post has been edited by Master ZED on 9th October 2004 21:56 -------------------- |

Umm...He's alright...But he is too weak for my taste. I only give him the command to throw money at enemies. His slot sucked.. If you get 1 different or more, it just casts Lagomorph...But I really didn't like him alot...

As far as his character goes, I like him. However, I have never had Lady Luck's assistance and never wanted to rig the slots so I generally don't use him.

Setzer has a cool attitude and style, but as a combatant he's seriously lacking. Why would I use him when I could use Sabin or Shadow instead?

Setzer is ok for GP Rain but whenever I get to Daryl's Tomb, his strongest weapon is doom darts and I don't want to use them. His slot is bad and I can't ever get joker doom no matter how hard I try.

Loved his character, but his battle skills left something to be desired. Okay, they left quite a bit to be desired, really. Other than Chocobop and the occasional H-Bomb in a pinch, I could never really nail the timing on Slot. The occasional instant-dispatch attack (can't remember what out of Setzer's arsenal did that) was cool at first, at least until Daryl's Tomb where monsters kept coming back fully-healed and I couldn't figure it out for the life of me for a long time.

He's a rockin' character, but there's only so many bunnies I can stand to watch bounce up and down before I swear off Slot. Don't get me wrong; with enough patience put into the timing it's a neat and powerful ability, but over the years I've noticed that my patience with it has grown thinner and thinner and I use him less and less. Perhaps my next playthrough I'll opt to keep the guy in my party as often as possible, just to figure out how and why I used to be so good at Slot but now get chocobo upon chocobo stampeding below airborne enemies in a fabulous display of ineffectiveness.

I thought Setzer was pretty good, until I discovered that there are just times when it is quite literally impossible to get Bahamut. Maybe I'll check out ZED's Slot Guide. For the parts of the game that he's necessary, he does serve his purpose well, which should be expected really. I like him, but he's not my favorite.
