Nevertheless, I'll still give 'er a shot...
Greatest Guitarist 1. Jimi Hendrix 2. Jimmy Page 3. Tom Morello 4. Angus Young 5. Kirk Hammet 6. Slash It gets muddy after that... All told, Jimmy Page is God on guitar... and Morello is Jesus. Jimi Hendrix, however... he wasn't even of this world... Best Bassist 1. John Paul Jones 2. Flea 3. Doug Keyser (Watchtower) 4. Cliff Burton 5. Jason Newstead 6. Les Claypool The ever inhuman John Paul Jones... and Keyser is simply a pop n' slap monster. Few can play as fast or as insanely as he. The rest... the rest don't even need an introduction, it's how awesome they are. Best Drummer 1. Neil Peart 2. Rick Colaluca (Watchtower) 3. John Bonham 4. Lars Ulrich 5. Vinnie Paul If Neil Peart is God on Drums (and indeed he is), Colaluca is his Jesus. Nobody else alive can even touch what those two can do. Greatest Vocalist There's no such thing as a greatest vocalist... too much gray area. ![]() Greatest Hard Rock Song WAY too much gray area... o.O Best Ballad *cough* ↑↑↑↑↑ Greatest Band of Hard Rock 1. Led Zeppelin 2. Black Sabbath 3. AC/DC 4. Metallica 5. Guns n' Roses 6. Nirvana 7. Van Halen 8. Rolling Stones 9. Rage Against the Machine 10. Nine Inch Nails 11. Ozzy Osbourne 12. Kiss 13. Aerosmith 14. Judas Priest 15. Motley Crue 16. Alice in Chains 17. Stone Temple Pilots 18. Deep Purple 19. Watchtower 20. Ministry So there it is... who I personally think is the greatest and most influential in all of hard rock (that I know of). ^^ Topped by the ones and only Led Zep' and Black f***ing Sabbath, and quickly AC/DC and Metallica and G n' R, who could've arguably been the next Rolling Stones... only more. Why aren't the Beatles up here? Simple... they aren't really "hard rock"... but I don't think there'll be much argument when I say that they were simply THE absolute greatest band of all time... period, stop. *** Top lists're always kinda fuzzy for me... but I tried, I really did. ^-^; This post has been edited by Zephir on 27th September 2004 03:57 -------------------- ~Status Report~ * Completed... I'll take the liberty of overlooking the "hard rock/heavy metal" and substituting it with "ever" ... Because by just limiting it to hard rock or heavy metal, I'd be leaving out a whole lot of people worth mentioning.
I agree with Zephie and think that the categories are FAR too vague, or how he puts it "gray matter", but I'll do my best in trying corral who I think are "the best" All of these lists are in no particular order of preference. Guitarists -Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine/Audioslave/the Nightwatchman/Axis of Justice) -Jimi Hendrix -Kirk Hammett (Metallica) -John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers/solo) -Slash (Guns n Roses/Velvet Revolver) -Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) -Angus Young (AC/DC) -Jack White (White Stripes) -Alex Lifeson (Rush) -*insert other awesome shredder here* Bassists -Tim Bob Commerford [aka: Timmy C.] (Rage Against the Machine/Audioslave) -Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers) -Justin Chancellor (Peach/Tool) -John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) -Paz Lechantin (A Perfect Circle/Zwan!) -Geddy Lee (Rush) -Les Claypool (Primus) -P-Nut (311) -Nick Oliveri (Queens of the Stone Age) -*insert other awesome bass-master here* Drummers -Brad Wilk (Rage Against the Machine/Audioslave) -John Bonham (Led Zeppelin) -Chad Sexton (311) -Neil Peart (Rush) -Danny Carey (Tool/Pygmy Love Circus) -Eric Cretz (Stone Temple Pilots/Talk Show) -Lars Ulrich (Metallica) -Dave Grohl (Nirvana/Queens of the Stone Age/Cheap Trick/Nine Inch Nails/solo) -Brian St. Clair (Local H/Triple Fast Action) -Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters) -Josh Freese (A Perfect Cirlce/Porno for Pyros/Evanescence/Offspring ('03)/Seether/solo) -*insert other awesome keepers of the rhythm here* Vocalists (you can't possibly expect me to only list 10...) -Zack de la Rocha (Rage Against the Machine/solo) -Maynard James Keenan (Tool/A Perfect Circle) -Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) -Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters) -Brian Johnson (AC/DC) -Bon Scott (AC/DC) -Jerry Cantrell/Layne Staley (Alice in Chains) -Chris Cornell (Soundgarden/Temple of the Dog/solo/Audioslave) -Dave Matthews (Dave Matthews Band/solo) -Axl Rose (Guns n' Roses) -Brandon Boyd (Incubus) -Perry Farrell (Jane's Addiction/Porno for Pyros/solo) -Scott Lucas (Local H) -Adam Duritz (Counting Crows) -Ozzy Osbourne (Black Sabbath/solo) -James Hetfield (Metallica) -Elias Soriano (Nonpoint) -Raine Madia (Our Lady Peace) -Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) -Freddie Mercury (Queen/solo) -Josh Homme/Nick Oliveri/Mark Lanegan (Queens of the Stone Age) -Anthony Kiedis (Red Hot Chili Peppers) -Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots/solo/Velvet Revolver) -Nick Hexum/SA Martinez (311) -*soooo many that I forgot* I refuse to answer "greatest hard rock song"... Cuz if you couldn't tell by my sizeable vocalist list, I'd be typing for a long time... Best Ballad -"Unforgiven" ~ Metallica -"Mama I'm Comin' Home" ~ Ozzy -"Creep" ~ Stone Temple Pilots -"November Rain" ~ Guns n' Roses -"Black" ~ Pearl Jam Best Cover Song -"Calling Dr. Love" ~ Rage Against the Machine f/ Maynard James Keenan (Originally by KiSS) -"Higher Ground" ~ Red Hot Chili Peppers (Originally by Stevie Wonder) -"When the Levee Breaks" ~ Led Zeppelin (Originally by Memphis Minnie) -"Never Say Never" ~ Queens of the Stone Age (Originally by Romeo Void) -"Birth, School, Work, Death" ~ Local H (Originally by The Godfathers) Best Entertainer (* represents those who I've actually seen live) -Zack de la Rocha (Rage Against the Machine) -Maynard James Keenan (Tool/A Perfect Circle) -Serj Tankian* (System of a Down) -Jonathan Davis* (Korn) -Anthony Keidis (Red Hot Chili Peppers) Best Band Not necessarily of heavy metal, but of my opinion... -Rage Against the Machine -Nonpoint -Tool -311 -Local H -Stone Temple Pilots -Red Hot Chili Peppers -Black Rebel Motorcycle Club -Queens of the Stone Age -Metallica -White Stripes -Foo Fighters -Soundgarden -Rush -Led Zeppelin -AC/DC -the Jimi Hendrix Experience -Queen -AFI -System of a Down -------------------- "When I turn the page The corner bends into the perfect dog ear As if the words knew I'd need them again But at the time, I didn't see it." ~"This Ain't a Surfin' Movie" - Minus the Bear |

I see what you mean by "grey area". First off, I DID say that it could feature non-hard rockers. This was just created with a hard rock/heavy metal base.
I'm not quite sure how deciding what your favorite hard rock song is hard, but maybe I should have explained better. It means your favorite heavy song (or the best song by a rock artist that isn't to lovey/balladish) And by 'vocalist' I mean who-in your opinion- can do the best with his/her voice. Quote (Sabin) Vocalists (you can't possibly expect me to only list 10...) Aye, I shouldn't have seen that coming. ![]() This post has been edited by Sherick on 26th September 2004 22:19 -------------------- I fear my heart and fear my soul Life goes on, it surely will, Without me and I wonder: Will I ever see light again? Hah, it's STILL too vague for me to choose a favorite song... they're all so awesome.
![]() Vocalist is still the same way, too. =P And I just had to post to "correct" Sabs: John Freese also does drums for the new Guns n' Roses. ![]() -------------------- ~Status Report~ * Completed... Oh, that's the one I missed. Thanks Zeph. Freese also was a member of The Vandals. He's such a versatile drummer, and that's why he's definitely one of my favorite drummers. Not only is he versatile, but extremely talented.

I could've gone on for days about greatest hard rock songs. It's just not fair to ask for a small amount when there are just so many. You can forget songs easily....or even choose ones over others and then look back and slap yourself in the face. Black Betty is still damn catchy though. -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |
