I just did the naming topic for FF1, so I decided to make one for FFVI.
So here it goes: What do you usually name your characters when you don't want to go with the default names. Here are mine: Terra: Gen Locke: Chex (not after the cereal) Edgar: Strade Sabin: Divist Shadow: Spade Celes: Elsti Cyan: Zhan Gau: Gau Setzer: Tatsan Mog: Lanku Strago: Melnoi Relm: Jonis Umaro: Ugg Gogo: Sqad -------------------- When life gives you lemons... SQUIRT THEM IN PEOPLES EYES! Mwahahahahaha! *Squirt* Ow! Hey, that was my job! *Squirt* Knock it off! *Squirt* I want my mommy! Waaah! *runs off* The moral of this story is *Squirt* Ow! *Squirt* Okay, okay, no morals. |

I've always kept the default names for ff6. not sure why. i guess i just like them, or i'm too lazy to change 13 of them

The first time through I changed all the names (but I changed Setzer's back because I didn't like the name I came up with). I can't remember all the names right now, or how I spelled them, but here are a few.
Edgar-Abasto Shadow-Danner Gue-Dame Umaru-Ugg Relm-Relm(the only one I didn't change the firsat time through) Mog-Sup (Soop) And that's all I remember right now of the renames I did. Now I'm going through it a second time and keeping all the names the same. The only thing I'm changing is the anoing all caps thing. I'm making them normal... well some what. I keep the default names, but I make them lowercase. For example: TERRA would be Terra. Whenever its all caps I get the impression that the characters are shouting at each other. It also looks better with the rest of the script as lowercase than with caps.

The main reason behind my not choosing custom names, is that it makes it harder to discuss the characters and storyline with other people, who have no clue as to what you named your people. Yes, can somebody merge this with one of the other threads? |

Yeah. Lower case. Besides that, I once re-named Edgar Edward, because I don't much like me the name Edgar.

I also kept the default names and then putt them in lowercase , why? I don't know...

I use the name I've chosen for the first name, the default name for the middle name, and then their default last name (in most cases).
TERRA: Terra Branford LOCKE: Ian Locke Cole EDGAR: Aaron Edgar Figaro SABIN: Adam Sabin Figaro SHADOW: Jhon Shadow CYAN: Luke Cyan Garamonde GAU: Jacen Gau CELES: Celes Chere SETZER: Mace Setzer STRAGO: Sirius Strago RELM: Merry Arrowny I left Mog, Umaro, and Gogo the same. These aren't exactly the most Final Fantasy-esque names, but they are their names as I've pictured them. -------------------- "I will create a monument to nonexistence!!" I respect the names of my characters in ff6 but with two exceptions:

It's varied throughout the years. When I first played it in 1995, I named the characters after my friends then, and now after people I know now. And in between, it was other people. There are some characters I just can't think of good names for, so I just leave them the same (but put in lowercase like others mentioned.)
Not that anyone really cares what my friends from 10 years ago are named, but here goes! Character:1995/2005 (explanation) is the setup. Terra: Jennie/April (two friends) Locke: Aubrey/Serge (my boyfriend then/my husband now) Edgar: Trent/Nick (of NIN/of Duran Duran) Sabin: [Can't remember!]/Simon (it was some friend/of Duran Duran) Celes: Olivia/Liv (always has been me!) Shadow: Hilary (named after my sister, because she's coldhearted too) Gau: Gau/Andrew (kept original/cousin) Cyan: Paul/Cyan (my dad/kept original) Setzer: Robb/Yuna (friend - who was on American Idol singing Dancing in the Streets on Tuesday 1/25/05!!/ Japanese singer I get my username from) Relm: Erika/Erika (cousin) Strago: Bowie/Strago (David Bowie/kept original) Mog: Varied/Missy (named after some friend/my cat) Umaro: Varied/TheBoy (some friend/my boy cat, yes we call him The Boy) Gogo: DeDe/Gogo (my mom/original) -------------------- Kupo! |

Well, I renamed about four of my characters via Rename cards on my first playthrough. I can't remember them all but I distinctly remember renaming Terra, Tina. Later in the same game, I proceeded to change all the names back after I decided that the ones I choose didn't quite fit. Strangly, at the time I didn't know Terra's Japanese name was in fact Tina, it was just somthing I did. When I found out it was like, well, "Huh?

I try to give them names that mean stuff:
Terra: Aerie (close to Aeris, they're kinda alike) Locke: Nix (I'm english, so if i say he 'nicks' stuff, it means he steals it) Edgar: Reich (German for rule - he's a king) Sabin: Krieg (German for battle - he lives to fight) Celes: Aria (An aria is a type of song, and she's a pretty singer) Shadow: Umbras (Latin for shadow) Cyan: Joust (He's a knight, they used to joust) Gau: Wander (He's a wanderer at heart) Mog: Kupo (A tribute to every Moogle who has ever said it!) Setzer: Face (As in a poker face) Strago: Fogie (Well he's an old fogie!) Relm: Van (For Van Gogh) Umaro: Grimm (In Fantastic Four, the super-strong Thing's real name is Ben Grimm) Gogo: Daryl (I think Gogo is Daryl, Setzer's lost lover) There we are then....what do you think? -------------------- For Belle - Everything I Do GO GO GOBLIN PUNCH! I usually keep the names as they are, EXCEPT if it isn't my game. As I recall once I played a friend's cartridge where he was about to meet Strago and Relm. I changed both of those names to swear words and saved. He was really mad, I tried to tell him about the rename card. Instead of listening he just started a new game and kicked me out of his house. Figures.

hmm, i usually change the names to those of my friends, or mine, nothing too special... though i would still know who other people were talking about on forums and stuff

Well, I ALWAYS do that when I can.
 Not that Square's default names wouldn't be great, but I want my characters be " my characters " and I always rename them.The question is, do you? Here are the names of my characters: Terra=Xeena Locke=Sliq Edgar=Nildor Sabin=Alex ( I KNOW!!! ) Celes=Mina Umaro=Blitz Gogo=Plaque Setzer=Dass Strago=Simeon ( Hehehehee... ) Relm=Pico Mog=Peaqus Cyan=Hawks Gau=Ika Shadow=Sajora Did I forget someone?
