Wow, I missed a bassist AND a prog discussion! Being big fans of both, he's my 2 cents. There are tons of bassists who pull a lot of flashy stuff, and sometimes you get a real gem out of ther pack (Les Claypool, Victor Wooten, Jaco Pastorius, etc). But what's important is that the bass has to groove, and for the most part those 3 really accomplish that. I personally don't see a problem with tapping and using whammy bars, as long as it doesn't take away from the music. But you just gotta love bassists that hold down that low end so amazingly, like John Paul Jones, who is incredibly underrated as a musician. He should probably be recognized as the quintessential bassist. However it's always great when you've got people like Geddy Lee ripping it.
I'm listening to more and more bands like At the Drive-in, The Stills, and other sort of indie bands with cool songs. There's also a band called Ent that should be checked out, they broke up a year ago but they made some really cool instrumental songs. Some of their members have since joined a band called Crime in Choir, which is also intrumental and very melodic. And you can't go wrong with The Advantage, who just play NES songs. It's all of the classics, but you can actually listen to them without getting annoyed at the sound. The more time passes the wider the range of bands I listen to is. I have too many songs on my playlist right about now! -------------------- Lou: There's a couple of guys fighting down at the aquarium, Chief. Wiggum: Do they still sell those frozen bananas? Lou: I think so. Wiggum: Let's roll. |

Oh man...
Bob Marley and The Wailers/ Bob Marley - I don't know what to say about this group. Marley rocks. That's all I can think of. Reggae is such a calming music to listen to, and I thoroughly enjoy the lyrics associated with the songs. Blue Oyster Cult - Flat-out cool band. Thanks for three decades of music, guys. ![]() The White Stripes - Awesome rock band. Many at my school criticize them, but I simply love their songs. ![]() Just a sample of what I like to listen to. Believe me, there's many more, but I'm not up to listing them all. -------------------- You know. I think you're a very special unit. |

Booker T & the MGs - Just cool. It's relaxing without losing pace or style.
EARLYISH White Stripes - De Stijl ruled. Fact. Kings of Leon - Brilliant, unique yet familiar. North Mississippi Allstars - Raw, simple, powerful. The sort of music that makes you smile and think 'Yeah. That's good.' Led Zeppelin - Everything that's great about music - vision, brilliance... Frank Zappa - Pushed the boundaries and made great music. Black Sabbath - Come on. The blueprints of pretty much all music. Mc5 - Passionate, over-the-top rock with thought. Jethro Tull - If only for Aqualung. Neil Young - Raw power, with heart. Razorlight - I hate the fact that I like this band. Damn them, being so talented! *Captain Beefheart* My personal favourite, he made very deep music and didn't nessecarily follow the set rules. Intelligent music that was involving, creative and brilliant. |

Metallica and Outkast.
Although i can't stand most of Metallica's new stuff, they're still a favortie. ![]() Outkast, in my opinion, is the most talented group of guys in music today(especially Andre, but big boi is cool too). I like their music a lot and think they're gonna have a crazy future. Oh I also like Eminem. Well not so much like; I only like a few of his songs. I just respect him cause I think he's got loads of talent. Most people think he's just some badass wannabe or something, but a lot of his lyrics really make sense to me. My favorite band is Slipknot. Their first album was great, the second one was just ok, some awesome songs, some I didn't like, and the third album is probably the best cd I have ever heard.
A few other bands: In Flames, Killswitch Engage, Drowning Pool, Evenesene, Lacuna Coil, Papa Roach, Dimmu Borgir, Rammstein, Shadows Fall, Korn, Fuel, Kittie, Archenemy, and Mushroomhead just to name a few. I listen to about 6+ hours of music a day. |

Since my last post was semi useless and stupid, I too shall post again.
Oasis The Dead The Doors PinkFloyd Black Mages Queen Nirvana I like pretty much anything that's old. Not too much during and after the 90's. My station is tuned to the classic rock channel so, you get the idea. I also like Techno, and I enjoy Non-Vocal Jazz. Classical also has a good twang to it, and unlike most people in my age demographic, I'll admit it's nice. -------------------- If you've been mod-o-fied, It's an illusion, and you're in-between.
