What is the worst injury you have ever had?

You first.
Edit Okay, I had a similar injury that apparently wasn't nearly as bad as I'd always been told it would be. I sliced into my index finger with a rusty x-acto knife (least, that's how I spell it). I was making a cardboard model for a class project and slipped. The knife sliced into my index finger and got stuck. Took some tuggin to yank it out. Other than that is the time I was baiting a hook for someone one and they cast it out before I let go. Hook opened up the front of my thumb, but that healed up quickly too. I'm not much for broken bones and that kinda thing. Sorry. This post has been edited by Narratorway on 10th September 2004 07:14 -------------------- |

Okay... my worst injury was when I'd slammed my finger in a faulty window and nearly had it sliced off... your turn.

I'm pretty accident prone. So basically, I get injured a lot, but it's not bad or serious so much as painful. For instance, yesterday I managed to give myself a candy coating.
Anyway, the worst probably, is one out of three that made me have to go to the hospital, because i'm a dumbass. What happened was, I had a frozen pizza. It had whole olives on it, so I took a pie cutter and started prying the olives out. 5 minutes later i'm on the last olive, so of course, I try to pry, slip, and cut the hell out of my thumb and index finger on my left hand. So then I started dancing around like an idiot, yelling profanities while trying to cut off circulation. Nobodies home, so I run to my neighbors house. They aren't home, so I run back to the house. There's basically a small trail of blood as i'm going. Eventually I got to the hospital and they glued up my wounds. Hurt like hell though, gave me another stupid scar. And to top it off I had to get a bloody tetanus shot. -------------------- This one time I punched a bear in the forehead TO DEATH! I still have the scars on my chest. Nothing much here. I've just had my left arm dislocate three or four times during a two year period of time. The first time, I was carrying my little cousin on my shoulders and I slipped on some ice. I angled myself so I would take the brunt of the fall and not him. After that, the arm was weakened and more prone to dislocate. The other events happend while doing a butterfly stroke in a pool, while spiking a ball in volleyball and so on... The longer you leave the arm dislocated the more it hurts, and it really DOES hurt...
![]() Still, I'm sure people have endured far worse. |

Well, about a month and a half ago now, I was wrestling some kid and he spinned me and had a takedown right onto my left shoulder (he was a varsity wrestler, and that was the first time I'd ever wrestled in my life). My shoulder was at the point where I couldn't move it for a few days, but the problem is, it STILL hasn't healed. It's not that I'm in immense pain every day or anything, it just sucks that I can't really do anything physical without it hurting like all hell.
I've also broken some fingers, all on seperate occasions. I even dislocated the thumb on my left hand, and now it's double jointed for some inexplicable reason. My ankles are bad, and I roll them monthly it seems, and then I can't walk for a few days. Blah. Oh, and I also got a concussion. Many injuries, but all minor so. -------------------- The clouds ran away, opened up the sky And one by one I watched every constellation die And there I was frozen, standing in my backyard Face to face, eye to eye, staring at the last star I should've known, walked all the way home To find that she wasn't here, I'm still all alone -Atmosphere "Always Coming Back Home to You" |

I sliced my flexor tendon in my right pinky finger and had to have a tendon graft done to replace it. That totally sucked.

My friend turned this accident into a short story for her english class which she titled The Sock Story >_>
I was visiting my friend Sharon (the one mentioned above), who lives in another province. I think I was about 13, and we decided to go bike riding with another girl named Lisa. Since I didn't have a bike there, I had to use Sharon's brother's bike, which was a little big for me. We were biking downhill on a gravel path, Sharon at the front, Lisa next, and me at the tail. Lisa stopped really suddenly, and then started again, so I swerved to miss her. Somehow, I angled it so that I threw myself off of the bike, and it landed on me as I skidded on knees and elbows down the gravel (I just went a few inches, maybe a foot). The bike landed on top of my legs, and I had to yell for my friends to stop, as they hadn't noticed. When they helped me up, I noticed that I was bleeding profusely, mostly from my right knee. I had nothing to stop it with, and when a couple of people walked by, I asked them for napkins or some sort of tissue. These people laughed and shook their heads before walking away >_> So, having nothing else to use, I took off my socks, turned them inside out, and wrapped them around my knee. Then Sharon and Lisa somehow managed to help me to the nearest bench while they called her mom to get me. I had to get a tetanus shot, and couldn't walk properly for a week. My elbows aren't bad now, but I have two large, circular scars on my right knee. -------------------- I had an old signature. Now I've changed it. |

i was fishing with my brother and my dad when i was like...8-ish. well, i went to cast the rod, and BAM! the lures hooks caught my back. to make it worse when it hit me i jump and ended up pulling harder. bad thing too, cuz that second tug the hooks barbs went into the muscles of my right shoulder blade. OUCH!!! maybe it wouldn't be as bad now, but i was 8 and it hurt like a mutha.

I was trying to mop the floor. Yeah... normal, but I was 4 and I didn't know better, so i grabbed the twice-as-big-as-me handle, struggled with it, and ended up slipping on the wet floor and cutting my chin open on the handle. I was rushed to hospital and got 10 stitches. Can still feel em now...

I get injured at least weekly....
Let's see. I've broken both my left and right arms. I broke my left leg. I have bad knees and a bad lower back. I played soccer for years and have screwed up my ankles pretty badly. Oh, I've also messed up a couple toes in Tae Kwon Do. Then, here is my personal favorite. I threw a baseball at my brother's head (when I was like 8), missed by like 2 inches and he came at me with a bat. He jacked up my collarbone so that it is permanently disfigured (It's lopsided so that it hurts to run when I swing my left arm). And I once had heart palpitations. Basically, I'm that one pale skinny guy that always gets hurt |

I'm pretty injury-prone, also.
My latest was a broken middle finger and fractured elbow. I got these two breaks from a soccer tournament. The finger break is from jumping up for a header, hitting it RIGHT above the crossbar, and coming back down only to land wrong on my hand, breaking the finger at the 2nd joint. The elbow injury is from being kicked - of all things - by a soccer ball. The guy was two feet away and nailed it right at me. Surprisingly, I played through the rest of the tournament without any problems; it really started hurting after I was done. I've also managed to break a hand and foot before on two back-to-back days in soccer. ![]() Another "injury" - if you can call it that - was my second degree sunburn. Oh man, that hurts if you haven't felt it. Bad thing was...it was all ove my body - and I mean everywhere, though I don't know how it got there. I went to Destin, Florida with a friend to go visit his grandpa. The first day we were there, we went to the beach at about 8 in the morning. I didn't put any sunscreen on and ran immediately into the water. Six hours later still no sunscreen and it was blazing outside. We started playing beach badmitton and then we called it a day. So, I get into the Mustang and we head over to a hotel to do some swimming. I feel burned, but you know how that feeling is after a sunburn, right? I stick my leg into the jacuzzi and it hurt like hell. Later that day, when we got inside the house, my body was glowing red. It took a phone call to home, 5 ibuprofen, and four hours of sleep for my dad's friend to realize I needed to go home. I slept most of the way home, only waking up to get a sip of Dr. Pepper and a bite of a chicken sandwich. When I arrived, my back was stuck to the leather seats. ![]() I've had tons of more injuries. Too many to name. Stictches above my left eye, stitches in my elbow, etc. ![]() -------------------- You know. I think you're a very special unit. |

Shortly before high school graduation, I was bowling. I was going up to pick up a spare, bowling right-handed, when my left leg kinda went out from underneath me. It went inwards, towards my right leg, and I fell, dropping the ball. It landed right on the ankle bone thing and rolled off (into the gutter

I rarely get injured. Not that I rarely have the opportunity. I get bumped around alot, but I almost never get hurt (in fact, I've been struck harder than the blow that caused one of my brothers to break his arm, and I've walked away without even a bruise).
The worst that's happened was today. It was like four in the morning - I got up to use the bathroom, and when I came back in my room, I slipped on my pant leg. You know how when you slip/trip/etc, you send one foot forward to catch you? I did that, and ended up catching the bed frame (one of those small metal ones that only keep the mattresses off the floor and serve no interior design purpose). The edge caught the calloused area of my big toe, and pulled the flesh apart at the callous-skin border. There was a nice puddle of blood on the bathroom floor by the time I gave up on getting it to stop bleeding and just wrapped a towel around my foot and went back to bed. It's not that bad right now, it just constantly stings. and the way the opening is, it is very prone to infection. I also remember back when I was four or five, trying to get my soda off the counter. There was something going on, and all of my aunts and uncles were there. I couldn't get anyone to help me get the thing, so I hopped up, stuck my finger in the lip of the soda can, and pulled on it. I don't remember the pain or anything, just that I ended up crying for a good while. Those are the most painful things I remember. I have something on the back of my wrist that looks like it may be a scar. I must have gotten a cut when I was toddler-age, because I have no idea where it came from. My worst injury would probably be that time I dropped a sofa on my foot.
Yes, it was pretty broken. I didn't feel a thing, though. The most amount of pain was about a year and a half ago. I was in a hurry, ran out of my room, remembered I forgot something, turned back, grabbed it of the desk, turned around and in full running speed slammed my foot into the door. The door was open, and the only part of my foot that hit it was my small toe. There was one second of thinking "This might be painful", then the pain reached my brains and I collapsed on my back, holding my foot. Trough my painful moaning I was laughing, though. Not because it didn't hurt like anything I had felt before, but because it was my freeking small toe. That's *not* a cool injury. I couldn't walk for about two months ![]() -------------------- |

I tend to get injured a lot, but always make it out better than I probably should. Case in point: Once when I was, I dunno, about three I fell down the stone steps outside the house I grew up in. There were around fifteen or so of 'em and I hit almost every single one with my head. My mom, who told me this story years later, thought at the very least I had to have cracked my skull, but nope. I got right up and made my way back up the steps with nothing more than a small scratch on my arm.
I'd say the worst would be when I was, I think, five or six years old. One afternoon I was running around a field behind the house and tripped, catching myself on the ground with my hands. I didn't think anything of it, so I got back up and continued whatever it was I was doing. Eventually I realized there was something wet on my right hand, so I looked down and noticed almost the entire right side of my shirt was covered in red. I finally looked at my right hand and saw that the whole palm side (except for my fingers) was ripped clear open leaving only a disgusting mass of blood and tissue. Must have been something sharp on the ground where I landed, but exactly what I don't know. Ya how sometimes whenever you get an injury without noticing it won't actually begin to hurt until you see the wound? Well, that's when it registered. I can't remember how many stitches it took, but there were a load of them. I still have quite the scar to commemorate it. Also, because I wasn't the brightest of kids, when I was ten I ended up landing on the pointed end of a stick I had been running around with (no, I never did listen to the "don't run with sharp objects" lecture when I was little). It went straight into the side of my neck, but amazingly didn't hit anything vital. I had to get a tetanus shot and several stitches, but nothing major. I've had a few broken bones, but nothing severe. -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. If anything simply cannot go wrong, it will anyway. If there is a possibility of several things going wrong, the one that will cause the most damage will be the one to go wrong. - Murphy’s Law Boing! Zoom! - Mr. Saturn |

I've never been hurt as badly as the rest of you....
When I was really young, I went to a nature camp, and I jumped onto a dog pile. Unfortuneately, I landed on a counselor, and bounced of. I landed on my back, and dislocated my right elbow. When I was about 13, I had a really bad accident on my bike. I scraped my left elbow. It started to heal, then I banged it on the side of a chair. It split open, and I ended up getting plastic surgery. I haven't broken anything. This post has been edited by WindMaster on 11th September 2004 02:47 -------------------- Wind, Time, Life.. Those who go to the chat know about this story (some may have already seen the pictures), but heres the scoop
I was cutting open boxes at work and my friend dave was talking to me. Suddenly became more involved in my conversation then with my work, and the blade hopped off the box and got my wrist. straight up and down, like how people do it when they try to kill themselves. 27 stitches on it, but the best part is i didnt hit any major nerves, veins, or muscles. In fact, the blade SKIPPED over the veins in my hand. I call it divine intervention. Of course if your name is Vincent Vega, you would more than likely tend to differ. BTW it left a big ass nasty scar. -------------------- And have you found your joy, in this near dead world of ours? |

I've got two big contenders, the first being a time I got in a shopping cart and got pushed down a hill. A really, really steep hill.
Being the idiot I am/was, I tried to stand up inside the cart, which flipped over, crashed into me and knocked me clean out cold. When I came around, I had sprained my ankle, popped my shoulder from it's socket and patches of my face and chest were lashed like the bars from the cart had imprinted themselves into my skin. The second being getting into a plastic box-like tobaggan and going down the same steep hill, in winter, face first into a tree. It wasn't on purpose, I just didn't see where I was going until I managed to get my head up and see where I was about to crash. Severe concussion time and loads of bleeding being done from my forehead. Sure, I didn't almost lose a finger but it friggin' hurt like hell! -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |

I've had too many injuries to count but 3 big ones come to mind.
1. When I was 12 my freind and I were "wrestling" in my basement and he decided he was sting and busted me in the throat then broke the bat over my head and I suffered a mild concusion and a collapsed larynx. ![]() 2. My first day in the wrestling indys over in june ended up being my last for 5 months I chose to try some light weight moves (i.e. I flew) I landed my moonsault and my big elbow but I bothed a corkscrew body press landing on my shoulder and head dislocating my shoulder and nearly breaking my neck. ![]() 3. When I was 2 or 3 I was jumping on my moms bed and fell hitting my head on the night stand and needed 6 stitches in my forehead. ![]() This post has been edited by mcclanahan on 11th September 2004 19:11 |

It's not much, but I have two funny ones.
At the age of ten, I was in a small play-area in a pub. It was cool, like a big indoor area with balls and mats, and these big padded stairs which you could roll down. Anyway, for a laugh, my cousin pushed me down them. I flew to the bottom, where, to my suprise, someone had left a chair at the bottom. Yep, forehead-first into it. It shook me up a bit, and the lady what watches the kiddies yelled - "Are you okay!?" I stood up, and said 'Yeah, I'm fine.' At that point I remember her going ghost-white. 'No, you're not.' I promptly felt my forehead, and the tip of my finger disappeared some hole in my forehead. My cousin ran to get my mother, while I sat in the chair, shocked but not quite realising how bad it was. I eventually got an ambulance and eleven stitches, but the best thing is, I get two free meals there a year now! My second story happened easter 2003. For a short movie we were making, I was required to jump off the roof of my friends' house. Well, this was no typical roof, it was two floors and one attic high. It sucked. Well, we built a 'matress sandwich', which consisted of two feet of well-packed cardboard boxes with a matress in between. After twenty or so minutes of 'psyching myself up', I jumped. It was originally intended that I hit the top boxes, which collapse, then land on the matress, which crushes the bottom layer. Can you guess what happened? I hit the top layer, and it was like hitting concrete. I sort of bounced off, and just remember everything swirling. The next thing I know, a friend is rolling me over, shouting something, and my shoulder is hurting like hell. I looked up to see the undented matress sandwich. Eep. Anyway, I finally got up, my shoulder started to feel better, and I stumbled home with a friend. So, I knocked myself out. We built the thing too well, I guess. Anyway, what's really funny, is if I would've bounced to the other side, I'd have gone throught their living room doors! Woo! |

It would either be when I broke my back 8 years ago in wrestling, it is killing me to this day but there is nothing I can do. The other would be my shoulder when I tore up everything inside it 4 years ago, again in wrestling. I just got reconstructive surgery on it 2 months ago and I still can't do certain things, like lift weights.

I'd have to say it was when I was about 7 and I was playing with some neighbors on the zipline they had coming out of their tree. I was reaching for the rope to go down and the girl behind me was in a hurry and pushed me. I didn't quite catch the rope. Instead, my forehead caught the cinder-block below. Twelve feet below. When I became conscious again their mother wrapped toilet paper around my head and had her oldest son walk me the quarter mile home where my mom laughed and my sister freaked before loading me into the car to go get my 12 stitches.

The worst injury i ever had was getting hit on the forehead with a shovel. I was 6 when my parents decided to get landscaping for our front yard. So these guys are digging in the yard and I go to see what they are doing. I was in the middle of all of them when I turn around to come face to face with a shovel. It hit my forehead very hard and my forehead started bleeding like crazy. Unfortunately, even though it healed it left a scar on my forehead which still remains there to this day.
