Ever notice that in RPGs, FF in particular there are tasks that arn't so much 'hard' as boring and time wasting, even for pointless things? My top ones would be...

FFIV: Obtaining the 4 WEAKEST summons: To get the 4 weakest you have to win them in battle, but the rare item drop is rediculous! There are many items that are rare drops that leave you fighting for hours, but these leave you fighting enemies you could beat in your sleep...
FFIX: Getting ExcaliburII is stupid, to do it you have to skip through all text and all story. In other games this may not be a bother, but in an RPG this is stupid. No matter how many times you play through the story is 50% the reason to play!
FFIX: Racing Hippaul. There is no point, and the ultimate prize, plus all other prizes, do nothing.
FFIX (again!): Skipping rope mini-game. Once again, wasted time for a meaningless prize.
FFIX (see a pattern?): Card Game. What is the point? FFVIII was atleast useful, offering grade A items on the Card Mod. But XIs was useless.
FFX: Dodging lightning bolts. 200?? What were they thinking?? oO I was falling asleep getting that many... first time miss counting and getting 199. ><

Okays, me rant is over. ^-^

Edit: Ohh, bonus! BoFII, that was by square. They added in this 'chime' mini game where you had to replay this tune to get something oO it was optional, but anyone who's tried it, knows how dumb of a mini-game it is.

FFIV: Pink Puffs
FFV: Trying to master any job. Took forever, even at the right places.
FFVI: Learning any magic that was less than x5
FFVII: Getting E. Skill, the materia at high enough levels, and the story
FFVIII: Drawing. Not so bad later, once you got the item Refining abilities

FFIV: Obtaining the 4 WEAKEST summons: To get the 4 weakest you have to win them in battle

One does damage = Rydia's HP, one petrifies the enemy, and one does fairly decent damage. Only the Imp/Goblin is weak.

You're not supposed to do it the first time.

FFIX (again!): Skipping rope mini-game. Once again, wasted time for a meaningless prize.

You get great cards during both of these.

FFVIII's was "just there." FFIX's had a small plot point.

I hardly call those badass items you get for FF8's card game, "just there".

1: Rydia's HP is low at best unless you have a crap loada' apples for her, plus she dies, plus it hits one. I'd rather she live. ^^ There's a spell to petrify, and I've never gotten Mind Flare.
2: I did say no matter how many times...
3: But cards are pointless though. plus there are no real 'rare' cards, as the phantoms have them all. Even when I had one of each I didn't even get some rare key item fo' it. :/
4: What Tryscal said. ^^ I just think in 9 they coulda' let you actually 'do' something with them. (Plus 8's card game was way better, but that's beside th' point...) Plus if you get the Ragnorok on disc 4 all the CC members are on board carrying ALL cards but PuPu. If you even mod a rare card like Fat Chocobo one of them will carry it again, meaning a LOT of LuvLuvGs and so on...

IX Chocobo Hot & Cold game, its a tedious task but the items are kickass

VII Raising Chocobo's, i kno when u raise chocobo at least one colour up u can already get cool items/materia and when u have Golden Chcocob u get KOTR, but its really hard to raise the chocobo's, i finished the game with 110 hours on the clock, 40HRs took me to raise Golden Chocobo dry.gif , whats up with that?

FFX catching butterflyes, no point to the game at all

FFX monster Arena, u get good items wich are usefull for learning cool wapon/armor abilities but catchin the monsters is hard, and Nemesis(ultra golden ultimate Omega Weapon) is one way ticket to never to beat 10,000,000HP pinch.gif , and u have to capture at least 3 of every monster from every place and defeat all Original monsters at least once just to get crack at him, if u lose then u have to pay 15,000gil .....

IX Hippaul racing, its fun only to those who actually collects the cards

This are all of the annoying and tedious tasks for me, so yah my opinion

The TRUE final fight is not the 'final' one... its the one BEFORE it. You know which I mean. The others are cinematic, like the Cloud vs Seph showdown.
Anyway...
FFI: Beating the game with all White Mages
FFIV: Leveling up.
FFMQ: Playing it.
FFV: Nothing! I love this game. THere's no tediaty (is that even a word? =tongue.gif= ) about it!
FFVI: Learning all spells on all characters. Tis a real ARG!!!! inducer.
FFVII: The 'Cloud = braindamaged' sequence.
FFIX: Again, nothing bad about it! =happy.gif=
FFX: Sphere Grid. IF THOSE MORONS AT SQUARE PUT THIS IN FFXII...
FF:CC:
Crystal Chronicles
Is no FInal Fantasy
In my eyes, at least
(Pardon my haiku =happy.gif=)

FFI: Gurgu Volcano. That lava's quite an annoyance.
FFII: None that I can think of.
FFIII: Rescuing the Dark Warriors near the end. It wasn't tedious, just annoying in that I didn't know for the longest time that they'd help during the final battle, so I never bothered with those bosses.
FFIV: Those damn Pink Puffs.
FFV: Mastering all classes, although I rarely do that.
FFVI: Obtaining all Rages.
FFVII: Anything chocobo related, sitting through the long and annoying flashback in Kalm, and most everything after the first disk.
FFVIII: Drawing.
FFIX: "Eating" enemies and following the Chocographs to the treasures.
FFX: Wasting two hours to get the Sun Sigil. Ugh!
FFX-2: The whole opening sequence and calibrating the lightning towers.

FF1 - Purchasing 99 potions in the NES version, one at a time...

FFIV - Leveling up near the end so you could get meteo.

FFV - Trying to learn the !Redx2 ability.

FFVI - Waiting for them to get through an auction? I guess I didn't find FFVI that tedious. I didn't really want to have all my characters learn every spell, because I wanted them to each learn different spells, as a way of adding character.

FFXI - Fun as it is, about 3/4 of the game. Waiting for parties. Farming items/gold/exp for hours and hours each day. The extremely slow level progression. (This is all in comparison to other MMORPGs.) Like I said, fun game, but it was probably the most tedious of FF games.

FFTA - Slowly, increasing the power of the Sequence sword or simular items. (Acacia hat & Sapere Aude.)

Edit
Added FF1 (NES) item

Dont have any for the others, but ive got one for FFT. I'll spoiler it out, in case

Elmdor on the roof of Riovanes castle, because my party was just too damn slow. it was really annoying because i couldnt be bothered to train one of my people as a ninja just for that one battle, so i just kept tryign again and again, having to watch Lede throw Barinten off the roof as Elmdor tried to persuade me to give him the stone dry.gif

Somehow Rafa grew wiser or something, and ran away instead of getting herself killed... dont ask me, it just happened pinch.gif

This was on my VERY FIRST RUN THROUGH of the game, the second time i was much wiser and knew not to make my party too slow, buying speed items when necessary and having a ninja (i only realised their value AFTER Riovanes... dammit...)

1) She does not die from it [http://darkpaladin.sphosting.com/BombKill.JPG]
2) The Damage-to-MP usage ratio is pretty good, though

Your card collection adds to your Treasur Hunter Rank.

1) But VIII's had no in-game point. The items you get from it are great, but you could easily do without them.
2) You just said one of Tetra Master's weak points is that there are no "rare" cards because you can get upper-level cards from guys you can play against (even though you can't see them). Then you turn around and say one of Triple Triad's redeeming points is that you can get all the upper-level cards from the same general guys.

annoying and tedious...
FF1 - leveling up in order to take on the marsh cave and Astos
FF2 - the whole game seemed a bit tedious, especially before I figured out that you can hit yourself to increase your HP and use rasp to increase your MP
FF3 - been too long to remember
FF4 - I had to find ways to make it tedious, the whole game grabbed me and sucked me in and I felt it was great
FF5 - Trying to cross the bridge and dying repeatedly.
FF6 - again I don't remember much, but I never had much desire to go back to it, so I'd have to say much of it was tedious
FF7 - MIDGARD... I can't convince myself to play through that damn city again since my save game that had just got to disk 3 was deleted.
FF8 - drawing and fighting on a tiny island to find red fangs for weapon upgrades
FF9 - the card game, I never played it much because it was fairly lame
FFT - I'm sure the leveling would get annoying if I'd played it for a while, but since I just started a week or two ago and only get about a half hour per day, I still like it.
FFTA - finding someone to link with because I've beaten every single other mission and found the second ending.

The most annoying task I've ever had to complete is the Jail part on FF8. It is so arduous that you're ready to give up after the first couple of jail levels. That and having to fight your way to the Mummy guy with Locke and the Moogles on FF6. That gets frustrating.
