I like all the characters, so this one is kinda tough for me. I'd have to narrow it down to the fight with Kefka. Even this is tough, being that during the hundreds (possible exaggeration) of times that I've played through this game I had to have used every conceivable group against Kefka, and totally dominated, but I think I can form a pretty good team here based on the people I most use at the end.
#1) Strago. Strago is an invaluable part of this fight; main reason being Big Guard. Big Guard helps lots from begining to end, not to mention that his other Lores are awesome. Raise him to 9,999 HP, keep him healed, and do Pearl Wind every chance you get, or maybe a combination of Quick, Pearl Wind, and Grand Train (or maybe Quick, Pearl Wind, Step Mine against Kefka in his final form). The only downside to him is he'll use up a ton of MP if you use him to his full potential, however just stick an Economizer on him and you're good to go >:o) #2) Terra. Equip her with a Gem Box and Economizer (if you're dilligant, patient, and geeky enough to fight enough Brachiosaurs to end up with multiple Economizers, or if you're just a cheating scumbag - hey like who isn't sometimes?) and you have the ultimate magical force in the game. Morph her (and maybe use a bug to keep her in morph status ^.^) and her magical attack power doubles. Morph, Ultima/Quick, Ultima/Ultima, Ultima/Ultima. What more is there to say? (Besides the fact that she's cute, is a major player in the story and Possible spoilers: highlight to view .. ahem. It's always fun to have her strike the killing blow, or spell. from the very begining when Kefka puts a Slave Crown on her head you wanna see her totally BURN HIM TO ASHES!!! ![]() #3) Celes. I like to use Celes as my secondary physical attacker and backup magic attacker/healer. Her main purpose, however, is defence. Equip her with the Illumina, Force Shield, Mystery Veil, Force Armor, a pair of Marvel Shoes and a Zephyr Cape and you have a being with 159 MBlock% who will basically evade every attack thrown at her. The ultimate test of this was fighting Doom Dragons for more Marvel Shoes in the coluseum with her equipped this way at around level 52, with a constant barrage of Fallen One/S. Cross/normal physical attacks/N. Cross. The only thing that ever hit her was Fallen One; even with her autofighting and casting pointless spells like Remedy on herself (and doing Runic every now and again even though it wasn't as pointless) she had managed to regain up to about 1,500-2,000 HP with the Marvel Shoes' Regen effect before the dragon had used Fallen One again to lower her back to 1 HP (talk about a tense battle, with no control!). Celes ALWAYS came out the victoress, however. She evaded everything that was thrown at her, and managed to attack the dragon enough times to kill it. You ask, "Couldn't you do this with any other character?" Technically yes, I just choose Celes because: • I have her from the begining in the World of Ruin, so she's easy to keep up to speed. • No equipment conflicts, and she naturally has a higher Magic Power/Magic Attack rating making her a better caster/healer. A Runic now and then to get one of Kefka's spells doesn't hurt either. • She's cute ;o) • She fits well into the ending - Possible spoilers: highlight to view She was the one who had stabbed Kefka on the Floating Continent, triggering the final snap of his mind and ultimately leading to his revival of the statues. It only fits that she's one of the people that helps to end his reign. #4) Locke. A wonderous physical attacker when equipped with Genji Glove/Offering and Atma Weapon/Excalibur, if he's powered up enough. Locke also has the ability to steal (and equip) a second Ragnarok and/or a second Atma Weapon, and you just can't beat 8 Atma hits if he's at 9,999 HP :-) Other choices - Shadow comes under Locke. If I manage to steal another Ragnarok, and one of my characters is offed before the final tier, the first thing I wanna do is throw that bad boy at God Kefka. His tack stars also do incredulous amounts of damage, especially combined with the Quick spell, not to mention his faithful dog. Sabin would come in next for his Blitzes, followed by Cyan, Mog, Edgar, Gau, Setzer, and Realm (I've never actually tried to Sketch Kefka.. wonder if it would work?). I generally don't take Gogo or Umaro into Kefka's tower, being that I like to have all the characters give their little speeches before the battle with Kefka.. I'm just a story geek. However, if for some strange twist of the imagination, I decided to take Gogo, Gogo would probably be my first choice even over Strago (just give him the commands Lore, Steal, and Blitz and you eliminate Strago's, Locke's, and Sabin's need to be in the lineup). I'd then use Edgar for my physical attacker, and keep Celes and Terra where they are. Shadow would still be my next in line; the order after that would pretty much be the same. I couldn't see myself taking Umaro into the final battle. ¥ This post has been edited by Wiggymaster on 4th June 2004 11:54 -------------------- The problem with the world is stupidity. No Bosses can be sketched.
* MTek Armor can be sketched. In the Figaro escape scene the Boss music is playing, so that makes them a Boss as far as the game is concerned. But they are a common encounter in several areas and they can be sketched. |

What's your most powerful team in FFVI? Mine is:
Terra (Main spellcaster, Economizer, Gem Box...pwned.) Locke (I LOVE to steal. Steal from the poor, become more rich. Plus, my Locke's a powerhouse.) Setzer (Slot my ass, baby! ![]() Gogo (For having more than one ability. Currently has SwdTech, Blitz, and Tools. Terra, Sabin, Shadow, Mog. Sometimes I replace Mog with Edgar, since they have similar strengths (versatility, defense). I've said why in so many identical topics of the past that I'll be brief:
Terra - Casts magic on par with Celes, and has a better special ability. Sabin - Powerful physical attacker, and Blitz is versatile and free of MP cost. Shadow- Fast, strong, random counters with Interceptor, and Throw is an automatic 9999 damage with Imp Halberd or Heal Rod. Mog - Extremely high defense with Snow Muffler, plus good spellcasting. Edgar - Good physical attacks and defense, plus a versatile special ability. -------------------- "I always have a quotation for everything - it saves original thinking." ~Dorothy L. Sabin - I usually use offering/genji glove since I do 9999 with everything else anyway.
Locke - I love to steal, everything! (marvel shoes/steal ring) Strago - Economizer/marvel shoes. This lvl 99 old school mage does some mean damage, and he really helps out stealing. Gogo - Back up thief/blitz/mage. Has same relics as Locke. -------------------- "Look at me! I'm a receptionist! G'fa ha ha!" Quote Ultros |

Locke - Always my strongest character and wielder of Illumina.
Celes - One half of my main magic-casting duo, though she focuses more on healing. The Atma Weapon switches between her and Terra throughout the game. Terra - Spell-caster of much destruction. Delivers many ouchies unto enemies. Shadow - Surprisingly, he's normally the weakest of the four, although not by much. Always get the Offering and Marvel Shoes. -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. If anything simply cannot go wrong, it will anyway. Terra - My main spellcaster and all around destroyer. She is currently equipped with Illumina and Scimitar, genji glove (of course) and hero ring, sometimes the gem box.
Sabin - Strong physical fighter. His tiger fangs and dragon claws usually rip apart anything thy come across. He gets a genji glove and a hyper wrist to boost his vigor up into the 90's. Edgar - A good magic user, plus his tools are a good asset. He usually gets whatever's leftover after I equip Terra, so usually the Gradeus. Mog - He's got the moogle charm for those tight places. A pearl lance for him. )or( Shadow - Good all around guy, his throw can be extremely useful at times. He gets the usual striker. -------------------- "It is a part of human nature to be evil, and it is a part of human nature to destroy evil, therefore, when evil is destroyed, so will be the human race..." - Atma |

Sabin - Physical attack master, free healing with mantra
Gau - Unholy magic power, good attack with stray cat Strago - All normal magic plus big guard (with an economizer) makes him up there with Gau for best magic user in the game The last slot is reserved for whomever I happen to be more attatched to at the time, and has been Gogo, Terra, Celes, Locke, and Edgar at various times. I think next playthrough it will be Cyan. |

Assuming full freedom of choice, I stick with Celes, Sabin, Edgar, and Locke most of the time. Before Locke is available in the WoR, I use Setzer, and switch him to Cyan as soon as possible. To hell with balance--I like the fact that Celes, Sabin, and Edgar can take just about anything with the right combination of beating on it, blitzes, and tools.

i would use:
Terra, my main mage of the team(with gem box, economizer, all gengi items and bahamut esper). Gau with behemoth's rage(riboon, marvel shoes and force equipment, plus raiden's esper). Sabin, with his blitz no one can stop me(plus genji glove, tiger/dragon claws, any armor, bismark esper and marvel shoes). Gogo, Shadow, Strago, Relm, Locke- next space is for any of them. |

Gau - He's the foundation of my groups with the most powerful attacks early in the game and the best defensive abilities late in the game. I couldn't imagine not using him.
Sabin - Sabin is powerhouse guy number two with his very effective Blitz attacks. Gau and Sabin always make up the #1 and #2 slots respectively. The last two slots belong to any of these characters: Celes Cyan Edgar Relm (EV2 only) Terra -------------------- FFXI (Siren server) Tauu the Windurstian Tarutaru! White Mage & Paladin |

Hmm. The game is too easy to actually spend time thinking of the ultimate group, and sadly I don't have the oppurtunity to play custom monsters.
But for an ultimate group, and here's assuming I have no idea what I'm going to face, I would probably take: Edgar. He can dish out two attacks of 9999 damage, regardless what the enemy does to you or how he's created. Drill is aimable, which should come in handy when there are multiple targets and you don't want to hit certain targets because of mean counters. Gogo, set up with Slot, Lore and Magic. Considering his stats blow, this guy basically revolves around his non-stat based attacks. You should be able to discover Joker Doom in there, ForceField, Big Guard, Pearl Wind, Revenge and all those yummy effect spells such as Haste2, Quick, Life2 etc. Also, he can reach 128 % Mblock without the Illumina, which is a big pro. Gau. Where all else fails, here's still somebody with monster defense, the ability to absorb all elements and be immune to all status ailments at your choosing and access to Charm and N. Cross. Celes. She really can't do a lot what the other can't do better, but she has relatively easy access to 128 % Mblock and swings the Illumina quite nicely. Runic could help you if your facing something that can dish out Ultima against you. Of course, I would change my team to what I'm going to face, so if it's a single monster I would kick out Shadow and insert Sabin for the Kappa Dragoon, a good way to do very acceptabel damage, have disgusting amounts of defense and if all else fails, it still provides a way to avoid spells such as GrandTrain. Those who didn't make it didn't make it because: Terra: Terra is basically Celes without Runic, as Morph is a non-factor at high levels. And we don't need two of those. Locke: Lacks the ability to do more then dish out disgustingly overpowered Fight commands. Custom monsters are likely to have 30.000 HP or more, so Locke will get his pretty face handed to him on a dish pretty soon. Shadow: He's like Edgar, but he can't use Force equipment and is therefore inferior. Average Sabin: Dies. Cyan: Is the inferior version of the Kappa Dragoon as he can't dodge spells by Jumping. Umaro: Dies. Mog: Could only be used a a Kappa Dragoon, at which he isn't as good as Sabin is. Relm: Really can't do anything but cast powerful magic, which all other party member can do as well. Ultima tops at 9999 for all at that point. Strago: Slightly better then Gogo armor-wise but lacks Slot and is therefore dumped. Setzer: Slighty better then Gogo armor-wise, but lacks Lore and is therefore dumped. Fixed Dice are too unreliable in a tough battle. Edit I apologize for the rant, but I was wondering how I would put this. I actually chose Shadow for my team earlier until I realized that Edgar did all that Shadow did and with better defenses. Celes: knows all spells has economizer and gem box Mog: because all his dances and all magic, and just cause he's mog The last one alternates between Gogo and shadow Shadow because I think he's cool and Gogo 'cause I think... he/she is cool or somthing. My most often used parties when I have free reign on the choosing usualy ends up being Locke, Celes, Mog, and Terra. I first played this game when I was a young'n, and renamed Locke after myself. Later the Locke - Celes relationship endeared me to her. Mog is simply a badass, and Terra is the other main female. It helps that Mog, Celes, and Terra are incredible fighters in their own rights, and Locke's stealing ability is one of the handiest.

Sabin - Pure offense.
Terra - Magic, physical attacks if need be. Mog - Back up magic, jumping/physical attack, and, of course, Dance. I usually flip between Locke, Shadow, Gogo and Setzer for the fourth, depending on the situation. |
